I couldn't outsmart her, so I revealed everything about Jin Ke, along with those photos and Guan Mingyue.
Actually, saying it out loud made me feel a bit lighter. These things had been weighing on my mind for a long time. Although I didn't think about them every day, they were like a blockage, always there. Now that I had spoken about it, starting with Xiao Minxing and then Mina, after their analysis and confirmation, it felt like the obstruction had been removed from my heart. However, I really wanted to see Su Qian again; I wanted to know if he was behind this.
Mina stared at me wide-eyed: "Are you crazy? At this critical moment, going to see him? You really don't think this is serious enough? With Xiao Minxing's temper, you might end up in the Hospital again."
"I'm not going to confront him; I just want to ask if he authorized this or if it was all Guan Mingyue's doing. Honestly, I really don't believe it's him."
Mina was blunt: "Whether you believe it or not, keep it to yourself. It doesn't matter if it's him or not; anyway, my collaboration with Zhi Xing is ruined. Ugh, that Boss Zhuo is infuriating! How could he not tell me about such a big incident?"
I didn't have time to listen to Mina's complaints as I left her company and headed home.
As soon as I opened the door, I noticed something seemed different at home. After taking just a few steps inside, I saw Jin Ke's door swing open.
She was wearing a denim outfit with her hair tied up, looking coldly at me without moving.
My mind raced to figure out what was going on. Of course, I also thought about the visit to the Housekeeping Center earlier that day. They had already contacted a new nanny for us; we had met her, but she needed a few more days before she could come due to personal matters. However, Jin Ke had pretty much decided to resign.
I thought she must have come back to collect her belongings, but her demeanor was quite different.
I took a couple of steps forward without speaking to her first. I changed my shoes and put down my bag. When I looked up again, she was still there, staring coldly at me.
Since that was the case, I didn't want to talk to her and went directly into the nearby Study Room.
A few minutes later, Jin Ke pushed the door open and threw several photos onto the table before saying, "Here are your photos back."
I glanced at the pictures; they were indeed selected from those sent by Guan Mingyue, and nothing seemed particularly special about them. However, her current angry expression seemed a bit excessive.
Seeing that I wasn't responding, her originally beautiful face twisted into disdain: "Sister An, it seems what they say outside is true—women like you are only good for marriage scams; no one else wants you."
Her words didn't hurt me now; someone harsher than her, Xiao Minxing, had said worse long ago. So I put down my brush and quietly watched her.
She gritted her teeth but didn't manage to provoke me. It seemed like her frustration only grew as she continued: "He wouldn't like a woman like you; otherwise, he wouldn't have affairs with so many others. Look at them—each one has beauty and figure; their family backgrounds are thousands of times better than yours. So holding on is useless; he could abandon you even when you were pregnant; now that he's done playing around, he'll kick you aside too."
I was really afraid that she would say too much and get herself worked up, so I just nodded and said, "Thank you for reminding me, but I don't care."
"You..." Jin Ke huffed out that one sentence and couldn't continue.
Just as she was about to leave, she remembered a word and turned back to say, "You are truly a shameless woman."
I didn't understand where she got the confidence to insult me like that. How could someone who worked as a nanny, peeking at others' things and lacking professional ethics to the point of being fired, act so high and mighty?
Before Jin Ke could step out the door, Xiao Minxing had already returned.
He rushed into her room without any courtesy, his face pale and his eyes terrifyingly red, staring at her without saying a word for half a minute.
I was stunned by his appearance and had no idea what was happening, standing outside the door feeling helpless.
Jin Ke also looked quite frightened; her lips trembled slightly as she forced herself to say, "Xiao Zong, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it, but I really..."
"I don't care what you really feel, but if you dare to say another insulting word to her, don't blame me for cutting off your future."
Jin Ke glanced at me through the entrance; she didn't say anything but her gaze was unfriendly. She probably thought I had reported her, which was why Xiao Minxing had come back. But honestly, I hadn't contacted him at all.
"You don’t need to look at her. I have surveillance in the study room; I saw every move you made in there clearly. Let me make it clear today: the divorce is her insistence. I'm just cooperating with her to make her feel better. That's it. No matter how much she acts out, there's no talk of not loving her. Even if we live like this for the rest of our lives, I won't be with another woman, let alone you. In my heart, she will always hold the position of my wife."
I was stunned, forgetting to check Jin Ke's expression as my entire focus remained on Xiao Minxing.
He was putting in so much effort; to turn this situation around for me, he actually said such things?
My nose felt sour, and he gradually became blurry in my eyes. My heart wavered between believing and not believing; those words simply couldn't align with the person he used to be.
Did he really say that? The divorce was actually his way of pampering me, allowing me to act out in his palm without any consequences?
Was this still the Xiao Minxing who used to pin me down on the bed and humiliate me at will?
Could he have gone mad?
The door creaked; it must have been Jin Ke leaving. Then I saw a large shadow looming in front of me.
Xiao Minxing held a towel in his hand, gently wiping the tears off my face, but there was not a hint of a smile on his face; it was cold, and his gaze was still unfriendly.
He stared at me and asked, "Why didn't you scold her? Aren't you usually able to yell at me?"
"Did... did I? Have I ever yelled at you?" I asked him awkwardly.
The muscles in Xiao Minxing's face tensed up, and finally, he laughed in frustration and said, "I've never seen such a fool like you. It's really strange how you've grown up and still can't handle a nanny."
I found it strange too, but so what? Everything was still fine, right?
Stealing a glance at him, he had already taken off his coat and casually tossed it over the back of the sofa. Then he asked me, "What are we having for lunch?"
"Huh?"
He turned around and glared at me, his voice harsh: "It's noon. You don't expect to starve yourself just because the nanny is gone, do you? What do you want to eat? Hurry up and say it; my patience is limited."
"Then let's have ribs, sweet and sour. I haven't had them in a long time."
Xiao Minxing ignored me and opened the refrigerator to rummage for ribs.
I stood outside the kitchen, my gaze following his movements until it finally settled on his long hands.
