Xiao Minxing looked like he was about to get angry, but in the end, he smiled and said, "I really can't do anything with you. How come I never noticed how mischievous you were before?"
"How could I dare? Back then, when I saw you, I was like a mouse seeing a cat, wishing I could find a crack in the ground to hide in," I replied honestly.
He retorted with a hint of annoyance, "You deserved that kind of life. Just look at what you've become now; you don't take my words to heart at all."
The two of us were bickering, and Xiao Minxing tidied up the things in the hospital room.
After Sister Liu returned, he finally let us wait there while he went to handle the discharge procedures.
By the time we got home, it was already noon. To celebrate my discharge without any aftereffects, Sister Liu specially prepared a lot of delicious food.
I was starving, especially since I had eaten less meat due to limited activity in the hospital. The smell of meat made my mouth water.
As soon as Sister Liu finished a plate of ribs, I couldn't hold back anymore and looked at Xiao Minxing eagerly, saying, "Can I have a taste first? What if she doesn't cook it well? I can still ask for more while it's hot..."
He shot me an annoyed glare, but clearly, his temper had softened during this time. He turned around and went into the kitchen to fill a small bowl with a few pieces for me.
I was devouring the food like a wolf, and Xiao Minxing watched me with a pained expression, muttering, "Do you have any image left? Just look at yourself; you look like you haven't had meat in ten years."
With my mouth full, I defiantly said, "It's not ten years; it's clearly twenty or thirty years! Think about it—every day in the hospital felt like a year. If you calculate that, isn't it many years?"
Xiao Minxing rolled his eyes dramatically.
I realized that this eye-rolling was contagious; he had already been successfully infected.
Finally, after much frustration, he gritted his teeth and said, "Even if everything you say is true, this just came out of the pot not long ago. Aren't you afraid of burning yourself?"
I looked at him and laughed, casually asking, "Didn't you help me cool it down before you came out? I'm not afraid."
Xiao Minxing conceded defeat and turned to leave. It wasn't until I finished all the meat in my bowl that I called him back from the study.
The day after I was discharged from the hospital, Mina came to see me.
As soon as she entered the door and saw Xiao Minxing sitting in the living room, she exclaimed, "Xiao Zong, why aren't you at work? My goodness, I thought I walked into the wrong place. I'll come back to see you tomorrow, Anan, I'm leaving."
Xiao Minxing shot her a cold look and said, "Stop right there."
Mina froze in place, slowly turning back and softly said, "Xiao Zong, you haven't been to the company for almost a month. Aren't you worried about all the work piling up?"
Xiao Minxing glared at her, successfully silencing her before saying, "You're just in time. Keep Qiu Yuhan company for a bit; I have to step out for a while."
"Got it," Mina immediately replied, stepping aside and saying, "Xiao Zong, take care."
I didn't know what Xiao Minxing was going out for, but since Mina was here, I could learn some news from outside; she was my information hub now.
We barely waited for Xiao Minxing to leave before we sneaked into the study.
After days of effort, I had successfully convinced Xiao Minxing to remove the camera here. Now that we were sharing a room and with Sister Liu outside, the study had undoubtedly become the safest place.
Mina sat down in a chair and looked at me slouched on the sofa and asked, "Why do I feel like you've gained quite a lot from this injury?"
"What do you mean?" I looked back at her.
Mina pouted disdainfully and said, "At least I never saw Old Xiao so concerned about you before. Even if you say you two have resolved all past issues, he still had that cold expression. But look at him now; he's acting like a henpecked husband all day long. I'm almost starting to look down on him."
Hearing this made me want to laugh. How much Xiao Minxing had changed was hard to measure without a ruler, but during my time in the hospital, I was quite happy.

I could only roll my eyes at her and then asked, "Didn't you text me a couple of days ago saying there was an outcome regarding Jin Ke? What happened?"
She shrugged and said, "What else could happen? Since your injury was minor and not life-threatening, she'll just serve a few months in prison. Plus, with someone backing her up, whether she'll get out early is uncertain. However, it won't be easy for her to get by in Haicheng in the future."
Xiao Minxing probably isn't very satisfied with this result, so he has seemed more irritable these past few days. Although he successfully suppresses it in front of me each time, I know him too well to not notice.
I looked up at Mina and asked, "Have they figured out who is behind this?"
"Of course, that car and the person caught that day are definitely connected to him."
I almost impatiently asked, "Who is it?"
Mina glanced at me, first calming me down before saying, "Xiao Minfeng."

"What did you say? Li Ru is supporting them?" This was truly unexpected. I remembered that not long ago, Li Ru had come to Xiao Minxing crying about how bad her husband was and hoping Xiao Minxing would help her. Now the situation has reversed; they have become a family and are teaming up against us.
"After this incident came out, Xiao Minfeng went into hiding. The coordination with the police and the efforts to exonerate Jin Ke are all being handled by Li Ru. Do you think that counts as support?" Mina asked.
I didn't respond; my mind was a bit chaotic.
After thinking for a moment, Mina said, "Old Xiao is now surrounded on all sides. Their goal probably isn't to take your life; of course, if they did want that, it would be even better. They could almost kill Old Xiao in one fell swoop. Right now, they are taking advantage of the time when Xiao Minxing is in the hospital caring for you to stir up trouble outside."
