Mina stared at me and asked, "Do you really believe him?"
"Yes," I replied without hesitation. If it was Xiao Minxing who was orchestrating everything from the beginning, then how could he be entangled with other women? Besides, he explained the situation with Lu Yishan last time. However, I still needed to ask him about it and settle some scores.
Since it was the weekend, Mina didn't go home for lunch and stayed at our place instead.
Xiao Minxing didn't return until evening. He looked like he had been busy for a long time, showing signs of fatigue on his face. He only greeted Mina, who hadn’t left, before heading straight into the Study Room.
Mina tiptoed to glance at the Entrance, then turned to grab her bag and said, "Your man is back; I should be leaving now. I've spent all day talking to you until my tongue is almost worn out, and I didn’t even get a dinner out of it."
I smiled at her and said, "Didn’t you have lunch? Why are you complaining so much?"
Mina pouted her lips and grumbled about me and Xiao Minxing being stingy while she changed her shoes and headed out.
Standing at the Study Room Entrance, I thought for a moment and decided to get a glass of water before walking inside.
Xiao Minxing was sitting in the inner room of the Study Room. The computer was on, but his eyes were not on the screen; instead, he was staring at a corner of the wall, leaning back in his chair. He looked somewhat like he did when I visited him in the Hospital, sitting in front of Guan Mingyue.
Just thinking about this made me shiver, so I hurried over.
I first handed him the hot water before placing my hand on his shoulder. I intended to give him a little massage to help him relax, but before I could apply any pressure, Xiao Minxing gently took my hand and pulled me onto the chair beside him.
His voice carried a tone of exhaustion as he said to me, "Your hand isn't fully healed yet; don't do these things. Isn't there Sister Liu? If you tire out that hand you've worked so hard to recover, won't that make things worse for me?"
I nestled beside him, my head slightly resting on him, enjoying this moment of care and the brief tranquility during his fatigue.
"I'm fine. The Doctor also said I should exercise more. If I really do nothing and my hand heals, what will I do then?"
Xiao Minxing wrapped my hand in his palm and softly said, "Then just do nothing. I'll take good care of you and make up for the mistakes I've made before."
"What mistakes did you make? I don't know about any," I looked up at him and asked with a smile.
Xiao Minxing gently stroked my face and after a while said, "It was me who tricked you into coming here, and I didn't treat you well. Instead, I scolded you every day. Do you regret it?"
My instinctive reaction was to look up at the ceiling of the Study Room.
When Mina told me these things in the morning, Xiao Minxing wasn't home, and the cameras in the Study Room had clearly been removed. How did he find out about this so quickly?
He had kept this from me for so long, and now suddenly bringing it up made it a bit hard for me to adjust.
He also looked up for a moment and then asked me, "What are you looking at?"
Since I didn't notice anything wrong, I could only look at him and ask, "Why did you suddenly think to tell me this? It's a bit strange."
Xiao Minxing thought for a moment before saying, "Maybe it's because there have been too many things lately, and I've started to reflect?"
After saying that, he gave a wry smile and looked at me, saying, "It's fine now. Come on, let's go see if Sister Liu has finished cooking. I'm hungry."
Holding his hand, we walked out of the Study Room, and Sister Liu happened to bring out the meals.
I didn't know what I could do for him, but at least I wouldn't make him angry like before. Knowing his intentions and understanding his difficulties made all the past suffering and tears worthwhile.
That evening, Xiao Minxing returned to the Study Room. I had nothing to do and, due to my hand, I might not be able to draw for a long time, so I accompanied him in the Study Room to read.
Though I said I was accompanying him, we were each in our own cubicles, mainly because I was afraid my presence would disturb his work.
I could hear Xiao Minxing flipping through documents or typing on the keyboard next door; sometimes it was hurried, and other times it was slow.
Sister Liu came over with tea, but I didn't get up and let her serve it directly to Xiao Minxing.
Then I heard Xiao Minxing say from inside, "Come in for a moment."
Having sat for too long, my legs felt numb, so it took me a while to get up. By that time, Sister Liu had already left. I walked over to him and sat down in the chair beside him.
Xiao Minxing laid a piece of paper on the table for me to see.
It was filled with a lot of data. Just glancing at it made my head ache, so I looked up at him and asked, "What's wrong? Why are you showing me this?"
Xiao Minxing paused for a moment and said, "People say that when a couple is united in heart, even dirt can turn into gold. It sounds like an old saying, but there is indeed some truth to it. So I've thought about it; regarding the Xiao Family and Zhi Xing Company matters, I'll briefly explain them to you so you have an idea."
This came too suddenly; I wasn't prepared at all and couldn't figure out Xiao Minxing's motivation for making such a decision out of the blue. So I stared at him in silence for a long time.
He picked up the pen and began to draw on the paper.
To be honest, it wasn't very complicated. At least through Xiao Minxing's pen, I could clearly see Zhi Xing's current situation.
Zhi Xing's business consists of three parts. Compared to those large enterprises, it's nothing significant, but it has been developing rapidly in Haicheng. So Xiao Minxing circled them one by one and said, "No matter what, we can't stop here, and all the resources of the companies must first satisfy this part. As for the others, we can reduce them as much as possible."
He circled another section below: "This is my father's garbage company in the eastern district. It’s still a big hole right now, and it will take a long time to fill it."
"Why not just abandon it?" I asked, somewhat confused. The Xiao Family Sisters were fighting fiercely over these matters, yet Xiao Minxing was exhausted from filling it in. Wouldn't it be better to throw it away sooner?
Xiao Minxing shook his head and said, "It's not that simple. Even if we want to throw it away now, we can't. I'll tell you the reasons behind it later; just know that this place is a big pit, and it's a pit right next to us. Who knows when it might actually swallow me up."
His words were too bleak for me to bear. I placed my hand over the paper and said, "I believe in your abilities; you can do it."
Xiao Minxing nodded and said, "Yes, I will work hard, for you and for our children."
Suddenly he smiled again and looked at me, asking, "What were you really thinking back then? You even said the child was Su Qian's."
When this topic came up, I felt a bit ashamed and didn't want to continue his line of thought.
Xiao Minxing chuckled to himself and said, "Forget it; it's all in the past. As long as you're by my side, that's enough. Su Qian and Zhuo Feng helped me last time; I have to remember this favor."
