Xiao Minxing also took a glance at my belly through the rearview mirror and then said slowly, "If he dares to do this in the future, I will break his legs."
I replied irritably, "Father thinks the same way now, but who can he actually hit? By then, you'll be old; how can you control him? He'll do whatever he wants."
Perhaps my words had some effect, as Xiao Minxing was silent for a long time before speaking again, "So what do you think should be done about Xiao Minfeng's situation?"
I shook my head and said, "How would I know? I don't understand business, and I'm even less familiar with divorce lawsuits."
Xiao Minxing even shot me a glance and said, "Really? I remember back then you spent a lot to divorce me; you must have read countless books on this. Now you're saying you're not familiar with it."
I felt my face flush with embarrassment from his words but had no retort, so I just kept quiet.
After a while, he spoke again, "There’s really no solution to this matter right now. So even if we perform well today and sit with him until dawn, in the end, we’ll still be kicked out. It might be better to leave early."
I looked at Xiao Minxing without saying anything. I didn’t know if there was a way to resolve Xiao Minfeng's family issues, but his attitude towards Old Master Xiao today truly surprised me.
If before it could still be described as respectful, today it was completely dismissive.
“Xiao Minxing, do you dislike your father?” After thinking for a while, I decided to ask.
He didn’t look at me and drove seriously. After a moment, he replied, “Why do you ask that?”
“It’s just a feeling; it seems like there’s something separating you from this family. It doesn’t feel much like a family,” I said softly.
Xiao Minxing nodded and said, “That’s probably true. But looking at how they conduct themselves, would you feel any fondness?”
Well, indeed, I couldn't muster any liking for them. When I thought about it carefully, only Xiao Minxing seemed decent; the others were really... hard to describe.
When the two of us got home, it was still early. Xiao Minxing went to the Study Room to handle his own matters while I sat in the Living Room with Sister Liu for a while. When I returned to my room, I saw two missed calls on my Mobile Phone, both from Mina. I immediately called her back.
"What's up, dear? Didn't you report this morning? Why are you calling again in the evening?" I said on the phone.
Mina on the other end was silent.
I found it strange; usually, Mina was the one talking a lot, and I would just listen. Today, she actually let me take the lead in the conversation. If it wasn't because she had something to say, then something must have happened.
After asking several times, Mina finally sobbed and said, "Anan, I might really go become a nun."
I was taken aback and quickly asked her, "What happened? Why are you suddenly saying this? Where are you now? At home? I'll come see you."
She replied with a soft "mm," but refused to let me visit her, saying that her belly was too big and it was inconvenient to go out. She rambled on about various things.
It was inconvenient for me to go out, but isn't Xiao Minxing at home right now?
As soon as I hung up the phone, I went to the study room to find him. Xiao Minxing didn't seem concerned about Mina's situation at all. After hearing what I said, he replied, "It might end up like last time when she got drunk at home alone. What can you do by going over? She's still heavy with child; you can't pull her back if she wants to leave, and she definitely won't listen to any advice. I'm really fed up with her."
I grabbed his arm and said, "But we should go check on her, right? You can help! Every time I'm sick or unhappy, Mina is always the first one to care about me. She must be going through something now, which is why she's so upset."
Xiao Minxing shook his head and said, "I doubt it's anything serious; otherwise, she wouldn't have time to drink. Usually, people like her drink when they're feeling down."
"If she's feeling down, I should comfort her."
I was almost frantic; if it were in the past, I would have already driven out myself without bothering him.
But even after I pleaded with him, Xiao Minxing remained unmoved and said, "How about this? I'll call Zhuo Feng over; maybe it will be better if we go together."
In my anxiety, I exclaimed, "She might be upset because of Zhuo Feng! If you call him over, will Mina even open the door for him? Will she listen to him? It might cause an even bigger issue."
Xiao Minxing put down his work and stared at me for a few seconds before saying, "Qiu Yuhan, are you Mina's wife or mine? Why don't you care this much when I'm drinking? But when it comes to her, you act like it's a big deal."
This sudden turn caught me off guard; I was stunned for a moment before responding angrily, "Are you out of your mind? Xiao Zong, she's my best friend; how can you compare?"
Xiao Minxing really got upset then; his face turned serious as he said, "Then why should I go? Am I supposed to send my own wife off to someone else?"
I was angry too and walked toward the entrance while saying, "Then I'll just go by myself."
"You dare to go out? Let's see how I deal with you." He shouted from behind, running out while waving his mobile phone and said, "I'll call Zhuo Feng right now. Let's see what he says when he gets here. If it can't be resolved, then we'll go over, okay?"
I stopped at the entrance of the house, both amused and annoyed, and said, "If you had done this earlier, it would have been settled."
Xiao Minxing was also furious, mumbling, "You're the boss at home now. Just wait until the baby is born; let's see how I deal with you."
I slowly leaned closer to him and asked, "How will you deal with me?"
His eyes looked at me, sliding from my face down to my chest and then further down. The corners of his mouth curled up into a charming smirk that made me shiver, and I hurriedly moved away from him.
However, I could still hear his voice on the phone with Zhuo Feng.
It seemed like Zhuo Feng was reluctant to go. Xiao Minxing talked to him for a long time, but they were still arguing on the phone.
Finally, Xiao Minxing got a bit irritated and said fiercely into the phone, "What’s wrong with you two? You're dating and dragging us into it. Don't you know my wife is about to give birth? She can't even step outside right now."
I had walked back to his side by then and heard Zhuo Feng say on the other end, "When you two were causing trouble, didn't you drag all of us into it? Besides, I didn't call you; why are you being so fierce?"
Xiao Minxing couldn't take it anymore. Holding the phone in one hand and his coat in the other, he gave me a look that suggested we should leave.
I didn't expect things to escalate this much. Usually, Zhuo Feng wasn't like this; why was he arguing with Xiao Minxing today? Could it be that something really happened between them?
