I have been confused by what he said, and thinking that this matter wouldn't work out anyway, I didn't pay much attention and quietly drove.
Xiao Minxing didn't say anything either, until we entered the house, when he casually asked me, "Do you want to know what he did?"
I backed the car into the garage, and the two of us stayed inside without getting out, using the light from the car to see his face.
"Did you drink too much?" I asked.
He shook his head and then said, "Didn't I tell you just one drink? You don't think I, Xiao Minxing, would get drunk from just one drink, do you?"
I didn't know how much he had actually drunk, but listening to him speak and seeing his intermittent behavior made me feel like he was somewhat tipsy, which was a bit strange.
At that moment, he took my hand and looked into my eyes, saying, "That Good Fellow told me to get a divorce and marry his daughter."
My eyes widened in shock as I stared at Xiao Minxing, unable to say a word.
Is there really someone in this world who would ask another person to get divorced to marry his daughter for business? Doesn't he worry about his daughter's feelings? Doesn't he fear what others might say behind his back?
This is truly bizarre; not only bizarre but also somewhat perverse.
Xiao Minxing himself seemed strange. I didn't know if he had encountered such things in the past, but he had never mentioned them to me. He had never even talked about any issues he faced during social gatherings. Why would he bring this up today?
"Have you met his daughter?" was the only question I could think to ask him.
Xiao Minxing nodded and then said, "He brought his daughter along when we discussed business tonight."
Before he could finish speaking, I grabbed his shirt and asked, "Did you do something to her?"
Xiao Minxing's expression changed; he looked at me gloomily and asked, "Do what? What do you think I am capable of?"
I felt confused myself. Clearly, when I went to find him earlier, they were both fine. How did the conversation suddenly shift to a woman? And I felt like there was something more going on here.
He had already opened the door and got out from the other side. While waiting for me, he said, "I'm just telling you that this is what happened. If I really wanted to get involved with them, would I even tell you? Then the business wouldn't work out either, right?"
The reasoning is like this, but just as he said, in the past there were women who wanted to rely on him, yet he was able to clean them out. Without my knowledge, the other party had already stepped back. Why is it that this particular one, nothing happened, yet he brought it up to me alone?
That night, my mental state was not good at all. I ate a little and didn't even want to be with Xiao Zhe, heading straight upstairs.
However, I couldn't fall asleep either. I sat in the bedroom for a long time, lost in thought, filtering through the past and present states of Xiao Minxing without discovering anything unusual.
That night he came in quite late, around eleven o'clock, went straight to take a shower and sleep, only hugging me briefly without doing anything else.
Smelling his warm breath, I felt mixed emotions. Just when I wanted to treat him well, a wildflower appeared. From what Xiao Minxing implied, it seemed to be a very capable wildflower. Could it be that because he didn't get close to her, she would deliberately target him?
Xiao Minxing is not someone who can be bullied. Even those clients who are quite powerful respect him greatly because he truly has skills; those people are just there to make money.
I've never seen anyone force him to drink; today was the first time. What will happen in the future is even more unpredictable.
I thought aimlessly all night, and when I got up at dawn, my eyes were so dry that I didn't want to open them at all, and my head hurt as well.
Xiao Minxing usually gets up earlier than me. Sitting at the head of the bed, he propped me up and asked, "What's wrong? Your eyes are dark circles, and your complexion doesn't look good."
I almost wanted to say that I wouldn't go to work and just sleep at home instead.
But then I thought about Ye Guang still being at the studio. If I didn't go over, he would be alone there. Even though colleagues could take care of him, he would still feel lonely psychologically.
I forced myself to get up and said, "It's nothing; maybe I just didn't sleep well."
He looked at me meaningfully and got up first, saying, "Do you want to rest a bit in the morning before going to work?"
"No need; anyway, my job is easy. At worst, I can just take a nap there."
We both went downstairs for breakfast. Xiao Zhe was already up and being held by Sister Wang. It seemed he hadn't played enough with me last night because as soon as he saw me this morning, he shouted for a hug and tried hard to squirm down from Sister Wang's arms.
He can eat and sleep well now and crawls around all day long. Not only does he crawl downstairs but can also go upstairs. According to Sister Wang, they can't manage him anymore.
With all this exercise throughout the day, his body is getting sturdier. When he throws a tantrum or struggles hard, it's really difficult to handle him.
I was busy carrying him away from Sister Wang. Xiao Zhe, who had been struggling and crying, suddenly stopped, leaned his little head against me, and started babbling incomprehensibly.
Xiao Minxing came over and pinched his cheek, saying, "Naughty boy, can't you see that your mom hasn't rested well? Come here, I'll hold you."
Xiao Zhe grabbed at him with his hands while also trying to free his own little face. Then he wrapped his arms tightly around my neck, not loosening his grip at all.
Xiao Minxing tried several times to pry him off but ultimately had to give up.
After dinner, we went to work together. Xiao Zhe lay listlessly on Sister Wang, and although he didn't seem to be chasing after us, his little expression was still full of grievance.
I said to Xiao Minxing, "I almost want to take him to work with me. Look how poor Good Fellow is at home; he doesn't see us all day."
Xiao Minxing replied directly, "If you take him along, you'd have to bring both nannies too. What's the point of going to work then? You might as well stay home and take care of the child."
Bringing this up made me a bit angry. I shot him a glare and said, "Didn't you say you wanted to support us? Now that the child is so small, you're letting me go out to work. You act like a big boss; it's simply heartless."
Xiao Minxing looked at me strangely and after a long pause said, "Why aren't you shedding crocodile tears? How is that heartless? Do you even know what heartless means? Besides, I never said I wanted to support you guys; people need to be self-reliant."
Right now, I couldn't even argue with Good Fellow. What had started as a joke made it seem like I was being unreasonable while he portrayed himself as a proactive savior trying to help us.
He tilted his head and looked at my face before softening his tone a bit and said, "Qiu Yuhan, I don't want to raise you into a useless person. If that happens and someone competes with you in the future, you'll only end up losing."
