Liu Zhou took a deep breath and said slowly, "Be careful! Their target is not just me."
Fairy Yunmeng furrowed her brows and looked around. She noticed that the rooftops surrounding the courtyard were now filled with black-clad figures, each wielding sharp blades, exuding a murderous aura.
"It seems we have no way to escape today," Fairy Yunmeng said calmly, though there was no trace of fear in her eyes; instead, a fierce fighting spirit ignited within her.
"Who says we need to escape?" Liu Zhou replied with a confident smile. "Today, let them see what true martial arts really are!"
Before he finished speaking, Liu Zhou's figure flickered and transformed into an afterimage as he charged toward the leading black-clad figures.
"Seeking death!" the leader of the black-clad figures shouted angrily, swinging his long knife down at Liu Zhou.
"Just a petty trick!" Liu Zhou scoffed, not dodging or evading. His right hand shot out like lightning, seizing the leader's wrist firmly.
The leader felt a numbness in his wrist, nearly losing his grip on the long knife. Terrified, he attempted to struggle but saw Liu Zhou's left hand clawing toward his throat.
The leader was struck with panic; he tried to evade but found Liu Zhou's speed astonishingly fast, making it impossible to escape.
"Bang!"
With a dull thud, the leader felt a sharp pain in his chest and was sent flying backward, crashing heavily into the center of the courtyard, blood gushing from his mouth.
The other black-clad figures were taken aback; they hadn't expected Liu Zhou's strength to be so terrifying that he could injure their leader with a single move.
"Attack together! Kill him!"
After a brief moment of shock, the black-clad figures roared in anger and surrounded Liu Zhou from all directions.
The light of swords and the aura of killing filled the air.
Liu Zhou found himself surrounded, yet he appeared to be in complete control. His figure moved like a ghost, and with each strike, he unleashed tremendous power. In a casual manner, several men in black were knocked down to the ground.
Fairy Yunmeng watched in astonishment; she had never seen such exceptional martial skills. Each move was filled with strength and grace, as if he were not fighting but performing a breathtaking dance.
"Is this really his true strength?" Fairy Yunmeng was deeply shocked and increasingly curious about Liu Zhou's identity.
"Take this!"
Liu Zhou shouted softly, both hands striking out as he executed the technique "Overturning Mountains and Seas." An invisible wave of energy radiated from him, spreading outward.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Those men in black who were close to Liu Zhou were all blown away by the powerful wave, crashing heavily onto the ground in various parts of the courtyard, their cries of agony rising one after another.
After one move, the men in black suffered heavy casualties, with fewer than ten still standing, each displaying a look of terror, no longer daring to advance a single step.
Liu Zhou clapped his hands as if he had accomplished something trivial. He glanced over the remaining men in black and said: “Is there anyone else?”. The men in black exchanged fearful glances, their hands trembling slightly around their weapons. Liu Zhou's imposing presence was too overwhelming for them to harbor even a hint of resistance.
"Overestimating yourselves," Liu Zhou coldly surveyed the scene. His gaze was as sharp as a blade, causing the remaining men in black to lower their heads, unable to meet his eyes.
Under the moonlight, the courtyard was in disarray. The injured man in black groaned in pain, while the uninjured ones were still in shock. They had never imagined that this seemingly ordinary innkeeper possessed such terrifying strength.
"Who... who exactly are you?" one of the smaller men among the black-clad figures mustered his courage to ask, his voice trembling slightly.
Liu Zhou did not respond to his question but simply said, "Go back and tell your master that if they want to touch her, they should first ask if my sword agrees."
The men in black exchanged glances, none daring to say another word. Supporting each other, they fled from Yunmeng Inn in a panic.
Liu Zhou did not pursue them. His gaze fell on Fairy Yunmeng, a hint of barely noticeable tenderness flashing in his eyes.
Fairy Yunmeng walked over to Liu Zhou, her eyes filled with surprise and admiration. "I didn't expect you to be so hidden and capable. Your martial arts..."
Liu Zhou interrupted her, smiling faintly. "It's just a trivial skill, not worth mentioning."
"No, you are too modest." Fairy Yunmeng shook her head, looking sincerely at Liu Zhou. "Your martial arts are the highest I've ever seen. Thank you for saving me."
Liu Zhou gently shook his head and remained silent. He turned and walked to the center of the courtyard, beginning to tidy up the mess.
Fairy Yunmeng watched Liu Zhou's back, her mind racing with thoughts. She had originally thought Liu Zhou was just an ordinary innkeeper but was surprised to discover his immense power and sense of justice, unafraid of authority.
"Liu Zhou..." Fairy Yunmeng whispered his name softly, her curiosity about him growing even more.
In the following days, Fairy Yunmeng intentionally approached Liu Zhou, wanting to learn more about him. However, Liu Zhou always remained indifferent, as if he cared little about her identity or intentions.
One night, Fairy Yunmeng knocked on Liu Zhou's door.
"Come in," Liu Zhou's voice came from inside the room.
Fairy Yunmeng pushed the door open and found Liu Zhou sitting at the table with a book in hand.
"Can I ask you a question, Liu Zhou?" Fairy Yunmeng sat down across from Liu Zhou, looking at him with sincere eyes.
Liu Zhou put down the book in his hands and smiled faintly. "What do you want to ask?"
"Why do you hide your abilities?" Fairy Yunmeng asked. "With your skills, you could easily become a renowned hero in the martial world. Why are you content to be an inconspicuous innkeeper?"
Liu Zhou was silent for a moment before slowly replying, "Everyone has their own choices. I simply chose a lifestyle that suits me."
"But..." Fairy Yunmeng wanted to say more but was interrupted by Liu Zhou.
"It's getting late; you should rest early," Liu Zhou said as he stood up and walked to the window, gazing out at the night sky.
Fairy Yunmeng understood that Liu Zhou did not want to elaborate further, so she refrained from pressing him and left his room.
Watching Fairy Yunmeng's departing figure, a complex expression flashed in Liu Zhou's eyes. How he longed to wield his sword in the martial world and indulge in the thrill of vengeance! But some things, once done, cannot be undone; he could only choose to silently protect everything.
The Yunmeng Inn stood firm in the martial world, becoming a safe haven for those in the community. Liu Zhou continued to conceal his identity, quietly safeguarding it all while cherishing the tranquility within his heart.
