"Although this Prescription is good, the ingredients are hard to find," Xing Ruyi pointed at the Prescription. "If it's just the petals, I could manage to find them with some effort, but unfortunately, my Cold Fragrance Pill requires pollen. It's already June, and the peonies have withered while the hibiscus and plum blossoms have yet to bloom. I'm afraid I won't be able to gather everything in time. Moreover, while peonies aren't rare, pure White Peony is not easy to come by."
At that moment, Xing Ruyi was not looking at Jin Luo but at Ruiwu.
As a series of light coughs echoed, she watched the master and servant leave. Turning around, she saw the fox's thoughtful face.
"Did you do that on purpose?" The fox blinked its beautiful eyes and finally focused on the corners of Xing Ruyi's smiling lips.
"Outside the pavilion stands tall and straight, with broad leaves casting green shadows, and flowers blooming in pure colors. With such elegance and grace, it deserves a discerning friend. That Rui Tong is a demon like you, right? Even before she entered, I could already sense the aura on her that is distinctly different from humans. This Cold Fragrance Pill is indeed a challenge for her."
"She's just a demon; are you sure she can come out alive from there?" The fox pointed toward the imperial city.
"Look at you; are you feeling sorry for her?" Xing Ruyi wrinkled her nose. "Stinky Fox, you really are fickle; it hasn't been long since you've taken a liking to this Miss Wutong. By the way, where's A-Ling? Did you send her home?"
The fox did not respond and turned to leave.
"Stinky Fox, you dead fox, stop right there!"
"Yin Chensi, stop right there!"
After calling out twice, the fox finally halted but still did not turn back to look at her.
"Alright, I admit I was wrong; is that enough?" Xing Ruyi childishly tugged at the fox's wide sleeve, pulling and tugging insistently. "I was just joking with you. As for that White Peony Flower powder, it's not that I'm intentionally making things difficult for Miss Wutong; it's just that it's only available in the palace."
The fox turned around and gently tapped Xing Ruyi's forehead with its index finger.
Xing Ruyi, seeing this, simply hugged the entire arm of the fox and acted cute. "You still haven't told me how A-Ling is doing. Has she gone home?"
"She's doing well!" The fox replied lightly, but its deep gaze remained locked on Xing Ruyi's smooth, silk-like face.
"Is that all you can say to brush me off? What do you mean by 'she's doing well'?" Xing Ruyi pouted, expressing her deep discomfort. The fox ignored her, leaning down to gently kiss her rose-colored lips.
As night fell and the stars filled the sky, a green shadow crossed over the palace walls, finally settling in a garden.
This was the Empress's Imperial Garden, the most beautiful place below, yet Rui Tong could not find the flower she desired. Feeling lost, frustrated, and helpless, Rui Tong looked at the splendid Imperial Garden and felt her shoulders tremble slightly; tears welled up in her eyes and fell as a single drop.
"How disappointing. When did demons learn to cry helplessly like humans?" The night breeze blew gently as a White Shadow swept past her, eventually transforming into a handsome young man who gazed at the moon while sitting on the red palace wall. In his hand, he held a bottle of dark green liquor.
"Who are you?" Rui Tong asked warily, sensing a powerful demonic energy emanating from this man.
"A person here to give you some advice." The young man in white smirked, an impish smile appearing on his face.
"Advice?" Rui Tong stared intently at him, a dark green orb of light forming in her palm. "What do you want to advise me about?"
A drop of liquor fell from the flask; with just a flick of his finger, the young man sent the droplet flying toward Rui Tong's palm. Before she could react, the magical energy she had gathered was dispersed.
"The Fox Demon wants me to tell you that to obtain the Cold Fragrance Pill, all you need is for all flowers to bloom together." After finishing his words, the young man tossed the flask toward Rui Tong and instantly transformed into a White Shadow before disappearing.
"Fox Demon? Xing Ruyi!" Rui Tong stared blankly at where the young man had been. She couldn't be sure if the Fox Demon he mentioned was the same Ruyi from Ruyi Workshop that she knew, but one thing was certain: this powerful demon did not intend to harm her.
Rui Tong rubbed her palm, which had been struck, and began to carefully ponder the words of the man in white. After repeating them several times, she finally understood. This place was not only the royal garden but also housed all the precious flowers and trees below. Peonies, lotuses, plums, and White Hibiscus were essential plants in the garden, so there was no need for her to run around; she could collect all the pollen needed for the Cold Fragrance Pill right here.
Inside Ruyi Workshop, Xing Ruyi sneezed. She looked at the fox, who rarely entered through the door and was accustomed to leaping in through the window, and asked, "Are you sure you conveyed my message?"
The fox said nothing, merely leaning against the windowsill feigning sleep. Xing Ruyi didn't mind; she rubbed her nose and continued preparing medicine.
If her diagnosis was correct, Jin Luo was suffering from tuberculosis. In her time, this illness wouldn't be considered serious, but during the Golden Age of the Tang Dynasty, it could be deadly. Without anything from her era to rely on, she could only concoct some common Herbal Medicine to help Jin Luo alleviate his condition. Although her methods were clumsy and the treatment would take longer, it was better than having no remedy at all.
Of course, that Cold Fragrance Pill was not something she mentioned lightly. If Rui Tong could gather those four items before spring next year and use them alongside her Prescription, Jin Luo's illness might improve.
Once a batch of medicine was prepared, Xing Ruyi stretched lazily and calculated once more before bed.
"This foolish wutong demon. Sigh! Could it really be fate?"
In the Imperial Garden, Rui Tong sat cross-legged beside the Lotus Pond, quietly waiting for a White Lotus that had just begun to sprout and still had some time before blooming.
Rui Tong had calculated that lotuses typically bloomed in June or July, White Hibiscus between October and November, while plums naturally bloomed in mid-winter. Therefore, if she stayed in the Imperial Garden for a few months, she could gather three of the four types of pollen needed for the Cold Fragrance Pill. As for peonies, they would naturally bloom next year as well. However, no one expected that on the midnight when Rui Tong obtained the White Lotus pollen, Jin Luo would cough up a pool of black blood and fall into an unresponsive sleep.
When Xing Ruyi rushed over upon receiving the news, Liu Zhanggui from Jishengtang—also known as Liu Laoye by everyone—was frowning as he sat by the bed taking Jin Luo's pulse.
