Macol shifted his gaze away from Neil and looked out at the starry sky, as if reflecting on his past choices. 0

"You know, Neil, when I first joined The Eye of the Philosopher, I was also an idealistic and passionate observer," Macol said, his voice carrying a subtle hint of nostalgia. "I often felt anxious about the suffering and injustice in the world, thinking that if I had the power, I would definitely change them." 0

Neil felt a shock in his heart. This was the first time he had heard Macol talk about his inner world, and it allowed him to see another side of Macol beneath his tough exterior. 0

"But later I understood," Macol turned his gaze back to Neil and his eyes became more serious, "As observers, the most important thing for us is not to change those worlds, but to understand them through observation, and thus find a universal rule or principle, so as to have a truly profound impact." 0

"So you're saying that I should give up helping those who are suffering and focus on scientific research instead?" Neil frowned, his voice filled with unmistakable doubt. 0

Macol fell silent for a moment, then said, "No, Neil, I'm saying you need to learn to distinguish between urgent and important, to develop a long-term perspective. If you choose to save one person, that's urgent; but if you can find ways to make one world, or even multiple worlds, better through observation and research, that's important." 0

Neil was deeply shaken, suddenly feeling like he was standing at a huge crossroads, where whichever path he chose would impact his future and his contribution to the world. 0

"I will seriously consider your words, Macol," Neil said earnestly, "Thank you for showing me a broader perspective." 0

"Don't mention it," Macol nodded, "It's what I should do as your superior. I hope you can make the right choice, a choice that truly aligns with the fundamental goals of The organization of the Eyes of the Philosopher." 0

Macol's figure slowly disappeared from Neil's sight, but his words were like a seed deeply planted in Neil's heart. On the way to Sophia's office, Neil was filled with conflict and confusion, but he also felt an unprecedented clarity, a new understanding of his future path. 0

He knew he could no longer be a simple observer, someone content with just observing and recording. He needed to become someone who could understand the world and make it better, only then could he truly achieve his goals, whatever they may ultimately be. 0

Full of contradictions and confusion, Neil continued on to Sophia's office. This office was more like a clinic, a stark contrast to the mostly tech-cold spaces within The organization of the Eyes of the Philosopher. As he approached the door, he noticed a small sign with traditional Chinese characters that read "Wanxin Hall." 0

Next to the door, there is a pot of lush green plants in full bloom, adding a touch of warmth and natural atmosphere to this high-tech building. The door frame is made of dark brown wood, giving a sense of classical elegance. Neil took a deep breath, gently grabbed the door handle, and walked in. 0

Upon entering, a faint lavender scent filled the air, calming the mood. The office interior is composed of warm-toned wooden furniture and comfortable sofas, with various psychology and philosophy books and some artistic decorations on the bookshelves. Here, high technology seems to give way to a more human-centered design. 0

Sitting behind a wooden desk is Sophia. She is wearing a gray sweater and a black long skirt, with her hair tied back with a simple headscarf. Her gaze is calm, smiling as she looks at Neil, as if she can see his thoughts and emotions deep within through his eyes. 0

Neil sits down slowly, taking a deep breath of lavender scent, feeling a slight relaxation in body and mind. He looks at Sophia's calm and profound gaze and suddenly feels that perhaps here, he can find the answers. 0

Sophia pointed to the tea and cookies placed on the desk and said, "Please help yourself. If you like, you can have some tea and cookies first." 0

Neil nodded slightly, picked up a cup of tea, and took a sip. The fragrance of green tea and lavender intertwined, making his mood even calmer. 0

"Actually, I came today because I have doubts about the mission and value of The Eye of the Philosopher. I used to think that becoming an excellent observer was my only goal, but now, I'm not so sure anymore," Neil's voice carried a hint of unease and struggle. 0

Sophia listened quietly and then asked, "So, what specific event or situation made you start having these doubts?" 0

Neil recalled recent conflicts with Erin and Macol, as well as his anxiety and unease about the observation mission. "Lately, I've encountered different perspectives and situations that have made me start to question if our work is really right. I respect my mentor Erin, but I've also found many overly strict and inhumane regulations within the organization." 0

"I understand, Neil. At certain stages in life, we all face challenges to our values and beliefs, and that's completely normal. However, these doubts and questions are also part of our growth and self-awareness." Sophia's eyes were full of understanding and compassion. "How do you feel these doubts and confusion are affecting your current work and life?" 0

"They make me lose my sense of direction and security. I used to think I knew what I was doing and why I was doing it. But now, I feel like a lone leaf adrift in the vast sea." Neil sounded lost and helpless. 0
