The fox approached but stopped just on the verge of an explosion. He lightly kissed Xing Ruyi on the forehead and said, "Fox Demon, wait a moment!" Then, he transformed into a wisp of white smoke and vanished.
Xing Ruyi felt a tickle of excitement in her heart as she opened her eyes, only to find the fox gone. She angrily pounded the bed, exclaiming, "Stinky Fox, you don't eat the meat that's right in front of you! Are you even a male?"
"I think he's a female," Yin Yuan peeked in from outside the half-open window, revealing his face. "Fox Demon mother, in my opinion, you should find someone else."
Fox Demon blushed and grabbed a pillow, throwing it at the window. "Stinky Yin Yuan, you should learn better at your age! What are you eavesdropping for?"
Yin Yuan ducked his head down, successfully avoiding the pillow attack. Looking at Xing Ruyi, he defended himself with a pout, "I don't have any bad habits! It's clearly because you all left the window open that my innocent ears were polluted. Also, Fox Demon mother, I was just hungry and came out to find something to eat. How could anyone not be curious with all that noise? And as for women, you're supposed to be a mother; how can you act so rudely and throw pillows around? Well, this pillow is nice; it's just what I needed for my room, so you don't have to buy another one."
With that, he hugged the pillow with his chubby hands and started to walk back to his room.
Just as he reached the door, he saw the fox in a snow-white outfit leaning against it. Those beautiful fox eyes made him feel uneasy. Yin Yuan instinctively hid the pillow behind him and looked at the fox. "If Mother threw it away, whoever picks it up gets to keep it."
"That's Fox Demon's!" The fox emphasized the words "Fox Demon."
"So what?" Yin Yuan raised his chin defiantly. "If Mother doesn't want it and I picked it up, then it's mine."
"It's mine!" The fox stretched out a hand domineeringly. "Give it to me!"
"I'm not giving it to you! What will you do about it?" Yin Yuan turned around and jumped onto the roof with the pillow. The fox's eyes darkened as she transformed into a wisp of white smoke and followed him.
"Hey! My buckwheat pillow!" Xing Ruyi rushed out and saw a figure entangled with a wisp of white smoke before they both disappeared. Frustrated, she stomped her feet in the courtyard, contemplating how to punish them when they returned.
Not only was she filled with pent-up anger from being robbed of her pillow, but Xing Ruyi also found herself unable to sleep. She decided to head to the pharmacy and start preparing her own concoctions. Gathering all the scattered herbs together, Xing Ruyi suddenly had a slightly wicked idea: she thought about making a pill that would make the fox unable to resist her charms, forcing him to either consume himself or be consumed by her. What could a fox spirit do? The man she had set her sights on would not slip away so easily.
Meanwhile, while entangled with Yin Yuan, the fox suddenly felt a chill at the back of its neck and an inexplicable sense of unease. Looking up towards Ruyi Rouge, he noticed a hint of red in the dark blue sky. Observing the stars further revealed that the Red Luan star was shining upon Xing Ruyi, indicating that something significant was stirring in her fate.
The Fox had been entangled with Yin Yuan for an entire night. Compared to before, his skills seemed to have grown significantly; given time, he would surely become a "calamity" that threatened the Six Realms of Beings. The Fox was not afraid, as he felt that aside from Xing Ruyi, the Six Realms of Beings had nothing to do with him. Xing Ruyi would likely not mind either, after all, a successful child brings joy to any mother. As for Yin Yuan, the Fox believed that no matter what happened in the future, he would not harm himself or the Fox Demon.
Xing Ruyi had also stayed up all night. She brought along a few of her creations. When she opened the door, she saw the Fox and Yin Yuan sitting casually on the eaves, arms crossed. The Fox looked fine, but Yin Yuan appeared somewhat disheveled; his clothes were torn, there were bruises on his face and body, and his hair was messy with buckwheat husks scattered on top. It was clear without asking that his pillow had been used as a weapon and destroyed.
"My buckwheat pillow, replace it!" Xing Ruyi pointed at Yin Yuan. "You are not allowed to use any money from my Xing!"
"Consort Ruyi is biased; it was clearly Father Fox who broke my pillow!" Yin Yuan raised his chin defiantly. He rarely called the Fox "Father Fox," but whenever he did, it was after being thoroughly beaten by him.
Xing Ruyi chuckled and narrowed her eyes. "He is my Husband; what's wrong with being biased? If you don't like it, go find a Wife for yourself!"
"I don’t want to!" Yin Yuan stubbornly refused.
"Why not?" Xing Ruyi pressed curiously for his answer.
"Because Mother is not a good Mother and certainly won't be a good mother-in-law in the future. I'm worried my future wife will be mistreated."
Xing Ruyi shook her head and casually grabbed something to throw at Yin Yuan. "Raising a son is not as good as raising a daughter; you haven't even found a wife yet and you're already criticizing me."
"Wife, why be sad? After all, he is just our adopted son!" The Fox leaped down beside the Fox Demon and wrapped his right arm around her waist.
Yin Yuan helplessly covered his eyes and muttered, "Doing this so early in the morning—aren't you ashamed? Please, he's still our adopted son; could you at least consider my feelings?"
Xing Ruyi huffed proudly and pressed herself tightly against the Fox's embrace, showing off her affection even more. Yin Yuan stuck out his tongue and turned away but murmured, "Consort Ruyi can rest assured; even if I want to find a wife, it will be three to five hundred years later. I won't make Mother angry."
Upon hearing this, Xing Ruyi felt a slight stir in her heart. She knew that Yin Yuan was not an ordinary mortal; like the Fox, he had at least hundreds or even thousands of years of lifespan to enjoy. She was different; at most, she had only a few decades left. Yin Yuan was using his own way to tell her that for the rest of her life, he would wholeheartedly accompany her and would not share his feelings with anyone else.
Having a child like this can be considered another kind of blessing bestowed upon her.
At the hour of the snake, Fang Ping and Luo Luo arrived as promised, their expressions more serious than during their previous meetings. Once seated, Luo Luo could not hold back and spoke up, "Ruyi, Brother Yin, how should we handle Ping's situation?"
"Ruyi, I really have something growing on my back," Fang Ping said with difficulty, clearly fearful of what was on him. He took a couple of deep breaths, closed his eyes, then opened them again. In that brief moment, he struggled internally. Finally, he uttered the word that terrified him: "Is there really a Parasitic Fetus on my back?"
The Fox Demon nodded.
Fang Ping looked uncertainly at the fox again. Seeing the fox nod as well, his eyes darkened.
"The fox has said that this Parasitic Fetus has been with you since your mother's womb. Right now, it is not a physical entity but a Vengeful Spirit, almost inseparable from your soul. It is impossible to separate them now." Xing Ruyi recalled the scar on Fang Ping's back, which still bore traces of talismans: "That scar on your back is not just a simple scar; it is a form of sealing technique from Taoism. I am not well-versed in Taoist arts, but I can be certain that the one who cast the spell on you must be a Master. If you had not encountered Luo Luo, that seal on your back might never have been broken until your death."
"I cannot be separated from Luo Luo!" Fang Ping exclaimed as he grasped Luo Luo's hand.
Luo Luo merely looked at Fang Ping, her eyes misty with tears. "Brother Yin, I remember you said last night that in order for Ping to be safe, we need to discuss matters with that Parasitic Fetus, which is also Ping's brother. I wonder if we can negotiate now?"
After speaking, Luo Luo turned to look at Fang Ping again, her lips curling into a faint smile. "As long as Ping is well, whether I marry or not is secondary. Ruyi is right; marriage is just an external formality. As long as Ping holds me in his heart, the title doesn’t matter."
"Is that what the Fox Demon says?" the fox asked, turning its gaze to Xing Ruyi.
Luo Luo did not understand and simply nodded lightly.
Xing Ruyi laughed awkwardly but felt a tightness around her waist; when she looked again, she had already fallen into the fox's embrace.
The fox lowered its head and whispered in her ear, "Don't think too much! I am not Fang Ping, and you are not Luo Luo. I will marry you; I will definitely marry you!"
Xing Ruyi turned her face away, feeling guilty. "It's not like you won't marry me. I'm just saying, if there's meat, why not eat it? It's not like it's a male."
The fox, frustrated, lowered its head and bit down on Xing Ruyi's neck.
Xing Ruyi winced in pain but, with Fang Ping and Luo Luo present, she didn't dare to cry out, nor did she feel comfortable arguing with the fox.
The fox released its grip and walked up to Fang Ping, looking him in the eyes. "About that Parasitic Fetus on your back, I truly have no way to deal with it. Even if there were a way, it wouldn't be suitable for you. The pain of soul separation is something no ordinary person can endure. Even if you, Fang Ping, have a heart that loves to the death, you wouldn't be able to bear even a fraction of it. Last night, I was with Luo Luo; while this Parasitic Fetus cannot be removed, it can learn to coexist peacefully with you. As for the terms of this peaceful coexistence, it will have to propose them itself. You can choose to accept or choose to die for love!"
Fang Ping hesitated. He looked at Luo Luo and asked softly, "Is there really no other choice?"
"No!" The fox replied firmly.
"Then I want to hear its conditions first," Fang Ping said in a very low voice. "If I refuse, how much time do I have left with Luo Luo? Ten years? Eight years? Or just three to five years?"
"That question needs to be directed at the thing on your back. As for how long you can live? That depends on when it breaks free from your body. When it emerges, you die; if it stays, you live."
Fang Ping shivered slightly and raised his head to silently look at Luo Luo.
Luo Luo smiled and said, "Ping, you don't need to worry. I understand everything; I just want you to live well."
"Luo Luo!" Fang Ping's eyes turned red as he said pitifully, "I want to marry you! I truly want to marry you!"
