This is a regular work meeting at the police station.
Since Tao Ziwen and Wang Zhiyuan have just solved the bizarre murder case of Zhu Dapeng, the Sheriff is generously praising them at this meeting: "Tao Ziwen is the new force in our police department. He solved this strange murder case in less than three hours. I reported this news to the higher-ups, and they gave Tao Ziwen a verbal commendation. Leaders, Tao Ziwen is the pride of our police force!"
All the officers applaud for Tao Ziwen.
The Sheriff continues, "The leaders do not want to overlook talent, and they have decided to promote Tao Ziwen's title. Tao Ziwen is currently just a detective, and our Criminal Investigation Team Three happens to be lacking a captain, so I plan to appoint Tao Ziwen as the captain of Team Three."
Tao Ziwen quickly stands up and thanks the Sheriff: "Thank you very much, Sheriff, for the support from you and the higher-ups!"
The officers applaud again, but Wang Junpeng looks dissatisfied. Just then, the Sheriff calls out Wang Junpeng's name: "Wang Junpeng!"
Wang Junpeng quickly stands up: "Sheriff, what can I do for you?"
The Sheriff instructs, "You need to hurry up with the 'Thorned Rose' case; the higher-ups are keeping a close eye on it!"
Wang Junpeng responds, "I understand! As soon as 'Thorned Rose' appears again, I will definitely catch it!"
The Sheriff nods and gestures for Wang Junpeng to sit down.
Wang Zhiyuan quietly says to Wang Junpeng, "Captain Wang, I've heard about this several times since I and Tao Ziwen were transferred here!"
Wang Junpeng looks embarrassed and pretends not to hear as he turns his head away.
Wang Zhiyuan wants to argue with him but is stopped by Tao Ziwen: "Alright! Captain Wang has been in the police station for a long time; we are all newcomers. In the future, when I become the captain of Team Three, if there are any work-related questions I don't understand, I will definitely seek advice from Captain Wang!"
Tao Ziwen extended his right hand to Wang Junpeng and said, "Captain Wang, I hope you can guide me in the future!"
Wang Junpeng felt particularly pleased by Tao Ziwen's words. He smiled broadly and shook hands with Tao Ziwen, saying, "Sure, we're all colleagues; we're brothers!"
At that moment, a duty officer came in to report, "Sheriff, another woman has come to report that 'Thorned Rose' has taken her child!"
The woman who came to report was the mother of the child who had been abducted in the alley. After listening to the woman's account, Tao Ziwen asked in surprise, "Are you sure the 'Thorned Rose' you saw was a man?"
The woman nodded, "I saw it clearly!" She then pulled out a dart labeled "Thorned Rose" from her belongings and said, "This is what that man threw down!"
Wang Junpeng quickly took the dart from the woman's hand and pulled out another dart that looked almost identical. He carefully compared them and then handed one to the Sheriff for verification.
Tao Ziwen continued to ask, "What did that man say to you?"
The woman shook her head, "He didn't say anything at all!"
The Sheriff compared the two darts for a while and said, "They're identical. I believe it is 'Thorned Rose'!"
Wang Junpeng asked, "Sheriff, since they are both 'Thorned Rose,' can we combine these cases of missing children with the port reagent theft case?"
Before the Sheriff could agree, Tao Ziwen expressed his confusion: "Aren't all 'Thorned Roses' female?"
The Sheriff replied, "There are male 'Thorned Roses' as well. A few days ago, when Captain Wang was pursuing 'Thorned Rose,' he discovered a male one."
Tao Ziwen analyzed, "I still feel that we shouldn't combine the cases! Thorned Rose has always been robbing drugs at the port; why would they steal a child? And why would they deliberately leave a 'Thorned Rose' mark when stealing a child? I suspect someone is trying to frame Thorned Rose!"
The Sheriff began to think. Although Wang Junpeng was unconvinced, he found himself unable to refute Tao Ziwen's analysis.
A woman was crying and kneeling on the ground, "We only have one child; please, you must find my child!"
Tao Ziwen stepped forward to support the woman, saying, "Don't worry; we will definitely find the child and rescue him safely!"
After careful consideration, the Sheriff said, "Here's what we'll do! Wang Junpeng, you continue to pursue Thorned Rose. For now, let Tao Ziwen handle the investigation of these missing children cases. We'll decide whether to combine the cases once we have some leads!"
Wang Junpeng had no choice but to agree, "Understood!"
Tao Ziwen added, "Sheriff, I have one more request. I want to compare some of the previous Thorned Rose darts with those from the missing children's cases."
The Sheriff replied, "That's easy! The previous darts are with Captain Wang; you can go get them from him!"
Wang Junpeng pretended to be generous, saying, "I have plenty of darts; take as many as you need!"
Tao Ziwen gathered all the darts that Wang Junpeng had scattered around and moved them to his office, where he used a magnifying glass to compare them one by one. Suddenly, Wang Zhiyuan pushed the door open.
Wang Zhiyuan informed Tao Ziwen, "Ziwen, another child has been kidnapped, and it was done by Thorned Rose again!"
Seeing the Thorned Rose dart in Wang Zhiyuan's hand, Tao Ziwen quickly took it and asked, "Has the person who reported it arrived?"
"Here they come!"
When Tao Ziwen and Wang Zhiyuan arrived at the police station's reception area, Sheriff and Wang Junpeng were frowning while facing a couple.
Tao Ziwen asked Sheriff and Wang Junpeng, "Is the kidnapper still a masked man?"
Sheriff and Wang Junpeng nodded.
Sheriff helplessly said to Tao Ziwen, "Tao Ziwen, today there have already been two cases of children being abducted. This is 'Thorned Rose' openly challenging our police department!"
Tao Ziwen looked at Sheriff and felt an invisible pressure. "I know, I will solve the case as soon as possible! By the way, after comparing the evidence just now, I can confidently say that the person who kidnapped the children is not the real 'Thorned Rose'! Although their darts are basically identical, there are obvious differences in the materials and weights used to forge them. Either the criminals are using 'Thorned Rose's' name to commit crimes, or they have a grudge against 'Thorned Rose' and are deliberately framing them!"
Sheriff replied, "In that case, speed up your investigation! I don't want this matter to escalate!"
Tao Ziwen said, "I will do my best!"
After Cheng Yuyao changed her clothes and arrived at the café, she appeared distracted. Cheng Yuwan asked her what was wrong, but she didn't respond. Finally, Cheng Yuwan guessed the reason and teased her, "Is it because someone didn’t come to the café today and you miss him?"
Cheng Yuyao pretended to be angry. "What nonsense are you talking about? If you keep it up, I won't talk to you anymore!"
Cheng Yuyao walked over to the bar and sat down with a sigh.
Noticing that her sister was truly troubled, Cheng Yuwan came over and sat next to her. "Sister, since you got to the café, you haven't seemed happy. If it's not because of Mr. Guo, then what is it?"
Cheng Yuyao frowned, "Mother suspects that Guo Zhiqian has ulterior motives for saving me."
"How is that possible?" Cheng Yuwan stood up, thinking aloud, "But then again, it’s not entirely impossible! If he didn’t like you, why would he keep going out of his way to be nice?"
Realizing that Cheng Yuwan was teasing her, Cheng Yuyao replied, "I’m not talking to you anymore! I share my worries with you, and you just laugh at my situation!"
At that moment, a couple entered the café. While Cheng Yuwan greeted them and took their drink orders, Cheng Yuyao sat bored at the bar, gazing at the entrance. Suddenly, she spotted Guo Zhiqian walking toward the café.
Guo Zhiqian noticed Cheng Yuyao and gave her a slight smile. A joyful smile finally appeared on Cheng Yuyao's face.
Behind Guo Zhiqian, a group of children were playing and chasing each other.
Just as Guo Zhiqian pushed open the café door, causing the wind chime inside to ring pleasantly, a shadow swooped down, grabbed one of the boys who was playing around, and leaped forward to run away.
Guo Zhiqian heard the commotion behind him and turned to look. The shadow held the screaming and struggling boy under its arm and disappeared around the corner. Without a second thought, Guo Zhiqian dashed after them.
Cheng Yuyao witnessed everything happening outside and hurriedly ran from the bar to the door to see what was going on. The few pedestrians outside continued on their way as if nothing had happened.
Cheng Yuwan came out from the back kitchen, "Sister, what happened?"
"Someone has kidnapped a child; Guo Zhiqian went after them."
Cheng Yuyao pushed open the café door and rushed outside, with Cheng Yuwan quickly following her.
Cheng Yuyao arrived at the location where the black-clad men were capturing children, and several kids stood there in a panic, unsure of what to do.
Cheng Yuyao picked up a "Thorned Rose" dart from the ground. Cheng Yuwan saw the dart and her expression turned tense: "How could this happen?"
Cheng Yuyao and Cheng Yuwan looked at each other in surprise.
Clearly, someone was framing them, and that person was Guo Zhuanghuai, acting on the orders of Feng Tao Gongjin.
Guo Zhiqian chased after Guo Zhuanghuai: "Stop!"
As Guo Zhiqian got closer to Guo Zhuanghuai, Guo Zhuanghuai suddenly turned around and threw several darts, which Guo Zhiqian narrowly dodged. Guo Zhiqian grabbed Guo Zhuanghuai's arm, but Guo Zhuanghuai twisted away and continued to run forward.
Pedestrians ahead quickly moved aside.
"Put the child down!" Guo Zhiqian shouted while pursuing. They chased around another corner, and as Guo Zhuanghuai turned, Guo Zhiqian leaped forward to block his path.
Guo Zhiqian warned again: "Put the child down!"
Guo Zhuanghuai attempted to escape once more but was grabbed by the shoulder by Guo Zhiqian. They had no choice but to grapple with each other.
Guo Zhiqian attacked with all his strength while Guo Zhuanghuai held the child with one arm and fought back with his remaining arm, finding himself at a slight disadvantage.
A large crowd of onlookers gathered around to watch.
In order to escape from Guo Zhiqian's entanglement, Guo Zhuanghuai attempted to leap onto the rooftop multiple times, only to be pulled down by Guo Zhiqian each time.
"In broad daylight, you dare to openly snatch a child. I want to see what kind of person you really are!" Guo Zhiqian said, reaching out to grab Guo Zhuanghuai's mask. Guo Zhuanghuai dodged twice but still couldn't shake it off.
Eager to flee, Guo Zhuanghuai took out a dart and threw it at Guo Zhiqian, who swiftly dodged. When Guo Zhuanghuai looked up, Guo Zhiqian was already throwing a punch towards his face.
Guo Zhuanghuai hurriedly raised the child to block his face, forcing Guo Zhiqian to retract his fist. Seizing the opportunity, Guo Zhuanghuai kicked out, sending Guo Zhiqian flying several meters away. He then leaped with the child and disappeared behind a rooftop.
Guo Zhiqian got up, frustratedly pounding the ground with his hand.
Guo Zhuanghuai returned with the child through a secret passage to the laboratory in the Tao Pharmaceutical Building. He threw the sack containing the child onto the floor and sat down on a chair, panting heavily as he picked up a cup of water to drink.
Tao Gongjin and Sun Puyi stood in front of the glass room in the laboratory. Behind them, assistants were conducting an autopsy on a child's corpse, while several other bodies of children who had died from bleeding from their orifices lay on the laboratory floor.
Noticing something unusual about Guo Zhuanghuai, Tao Gongjin asked, "What happened? Was it not smooth?"
Guo Zhuanghuai replied, "I ran into an acquaintance and got into a fight!"
"Did you expose your identity?"
"No."
Sun Puyi suggested, "How do you know you didn't expose yourself? I recommend that you take care of this acquaintance just in case!"
Guo Zhuanghuai suddenly stood up in a fit of rage and said, "If you dare to touch a hair on him, I'll skin you alive!"
Sun Puyi looked embarrassed.
Tao Gongjin patted Guo Zhuanghuai on the shoulder and said, "As long as our identities are not exposed, it's fine!" Then Tao Gongjin turned to Sun Puyi and warned, "There are too many children involved in this case. You must be extra cautious before this experiment! The police have intensified their investigation into these missing children cases."
Sun Puyi replied, "I understand!"
Guo Zhuanghuai said, "The police will think that the culprit is 'Thorned Rose,' so what’s there to worry about?"
Tao Gongjin shook his head and said, "If it were anyone else investigating, I wouldn't be worried at all. But the person in charge of this case is my son. He is meticulous and exceptionally intelligent. He has just taken over and already discovered that these missing children cases are not the work of 'Thorned Rose'!"
Guo Zhuanghuai angrily placed his cup back on the table and exclaimed, "Damn it, how did everything get tangled together?"
After thinking for a moment, Tao Gongjin said to Guo Zhuanghuai, "Let's put a stop to the child abduction for now! Given the recent thefts of these drugs and the murder of Feng Ziping, 'Thorned Rose' is well aware of our plans. If we attract the police's attention because of the child abduction, we will be in an even more passive position!"
