As the little boy's hand almost touched Xia Xiaoyu, a faint golden light emitted once again. Xia Xiaoyu was startled and suddenly seemed to remember something. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a talisman engraved with a Buddha character.
Zifeng...
In her mind, she instantly recalled that cynical figure...
"Ah..."
The little boy let out a sharp, terrified scream and was pushed back by the light that radiated from her.
"She hit me, Mommy! She hit me!..."
The little boy ran towards the other side, shouting as he fled...
Xia Xiaoyu, fueled by an unknown courage, did not look back at the retreating girl and chased after him.
The little boy ran into the bathroom, continuously shouting. Just when Xia Xiaoyu thought he had nowhere to escape, he dashed toward the mirror placed on the floor of the bathroom. In an instant, he ran right into the mirror and disappeared...
Xia Xiaoyu was stunned by the scene before her. She clearly saw the little boy calling out and then suddenly running into the mirror...
There was no sound around her. Xia Xiaoyu tightly gripped the talisman in her hand, holding her breath as she listened for any movement.
Inside the bathroom, there was complete silence. Xia Xiaoyu remained dazed for a long time before gradually coming to her senses.
A sleepless night...
The next day, Xia Xiaoyu felt as if someone on the bed had nudged her. She opened her eyes, which were red and bloodshot. She hadn't slept at all the previous night and only dozed off around six in the morning when it started to get light outside.
Looking at the time, it was already ten in the morning. Waves of drowsiness continued to wash over her, and the dormitory was empty. They must have all gone out.
Xia Xiaoyu didn't dare to sleep again; every time she closed her eyes, she felt as if someone in the dormitory was watching her. Even during the day, that feeling persisted.
Her head felt heavy, so Xia Xiaoyu took some medicine and decided to go outside to clear her foggy mind.
As she stepped out of the dormitory, she didn't notice anything unusual at first. However, just before reaching Small Grove, a casual glance made her heart sink.
The sunlight today wasn't strong; instead, it was gentle. What should have been a warm day turned cold in her heart when she looked down at the ground.
She saw her shadow—her shadow reflected by the sunlight—had suddenly doubled...
She had two shadows.
Panic set in for Xia Xiaoyu as she grew increasingly anxious. Soon after, the sun slipped behind a cloud, and her shadow disappeared. Yet she felt unwell all over.
She ran to the university lawn and stared at the sun, waiting for it to reappear. After a while, sunlight finally fell upon her again.
Sure enough, Xia Xiaoyu saw that extra shadow once more...
She was terrified and even more nervous. She thought the talisman would work, but having it on her didn’t help at all. Frustrated, Xia Xiaoyu began to stomp around in a panic, disregarding her image as she chased after the shadow, trying to stomp on it with her feet.
It was like a dog chasing its own tail—quite comical.
Others couldn’t see it, but Xia Xiaoyu could clearly see that shadow moving as well...
By afternoon, Xia Xiaoyu felt somewhat listless as the sky darkened and light faded away. She could no longer see that shadow...
She felt increasingly scared and dared not go anywhere. Xia Xiaoyu recounted the events to All Dormitory. Although they hadn't seen anything, they believed Xia Xiaoyu and knew she wasn't lying to them.
The atmosphere in the dormitory was unusually heavy; even with the lights on, it couldn't suppress the fear that was spreading within Xia Xiaoyu.
The shadows cast by the light were still two, but only Xia Xiaoyu could see them; others couldn't notice anything unusual at all.
Xia Xiaoyu was very anxious, and Tian Xiaojing protected her, constantly offering comfort.
During this time, Xia Xiaoyu also tried calling Zifeng, but no one answered!
Just as Xia Xiaoyu was about to go to the bathroom around eleven o'clock, she finally understood why she had two shadows...
The hallway felt hollow and cold. Even with Chen Mumu and Tian Xiaojing accompanying her, she still sensed a chilling wind blowing against her disheveled form.
When she passed by the huge mirror in the bathroom, Xia Xiaoyu casually glanced at it. It was a mistake to look; when she did, it nearly scared the soul out of her.
Because there was a woman dressed in Qing Dynasty clothing, leaning on her back...
She was also looking at the mirror. Xia Xiaoyu looked too, and she felt her entire body go numb!
Was she smiling at herself?
