I looked up at her and felt a sense of familiarity.
"I'm your high school classmate, Jin Xin," she said with a smile. "Do you remember me?"
I nodded and replied, "Yes, hello."
"I never expected to run into you here," she remarked. "It's been so many years since we last met, hasn't it?"
"Yeah," I answered lightly.
In truth, I had forgotten much about the past, including people.
"Are you and Han Weiting... together now?" she asked cautiously.
I was taken aback for a moment and looked at her.
"I saw the news a few days ago saying that you two are getting married," she explained.
I nodded and said, "Yes, we are getting married."
"Wow, I really didn't expect that," she sighed. "Back then, things were so tense between you two; I thought you'd never speak to each other again."
I remained silent.
She continued talking to herself, "Did you know that many people at school thought you two would end up together? After all, Han Weiting treated you so well..."
"Did he treat me well?" I interrupted her question.
She seemed surprised and said, "Wasn't it obvious? Back then, when you were being bullied, he stood up for you. There were even rumors that he was being supported by you..."
My mind was in chaos, as if something had exploded in my head, buzzing loudly.
I stood up and ran out of the restaurant as if escaping, making my way back to my room.
I curled up in the corner, tightly hugging my knees.
My heart raced as fragmented images flashed through my mind.
I took out my phone and searched for He Tian Middle School.
The webpage displayed numerous news articles about He Tian Middle School, one of which was a post I had seen on a forum years ago.
"Have you heard? Something happened at school today!"
"What happened? I haven't heard anything!"
"At noon, I saw an ambulance parked at the entrance of our school, and then several doctors and nurses came out carrying a stretcher. It seemed that a girl had been injured and was being loaded into the ambulance."
"What happened? Who is that girl?"
"I don't know; I wasn't paying attention at the time, but from her clothes, she looked like she was from our school. She was covered in blood; it was terrifying..."
I trembled as I slowly put down my phone.
I will never forget that day.
I will never forget that child.
I touched my abdomen, where a life once grew.
But it is gone.
I can never be pregnant again.
Never.
I closed my eyes, tears silently streaming down my face.
Han Weiting, there is a life between us.
I can never forgive you.
I had been in the room for too long and felt a bit suffocated, so I decided to go for a walk.
I put on my thick down jacket and walked in the snow, the icy snowflakes hitting my face, cold enough to numb me.
Suddenly, I saw a Sprite statue in the distance, which looked somewhat like the lucky Sprite mentioned in the hotel brochure.
As I approached, I noticed that the Sprite was holding a small piece of paper.
I took off the paper and opened it; it read: "Good luck."
I smiled faintly and tucked the paper into my pocket.
As I continued walking, I suddenly heard a familiar voice behind me.
"Nuannuan!"
I turned around to see Han Weiting running toward me from afar.
He was wearing a black down jacket and holding a bouquet of flowers, smiling as he handed them to me, saying, "I found Sprite, and I hope it brings you good luck."
"Shall we go have a cup of hot tea?" he said with a smile.
We sat down at a nearby café, and he ordered a pot of black tea, pouring me a cup.
"How is it? Is it good?" he asked me.
I nodded.
He smiled and said, "I'm glad you like it."
He kept refilling my cup and handing me napkins, making me feel a warmth I hadn't experienced in a long time.
Although my expression remained indifferent, my heart had started to melt.
