I picked up the USB drive and turned to leave, but the door to the conference room was suddenly pushed open. A woman with exquisite makeup rushed in, holding a child around two years old. Her voice was sharp and piercing: “ Wei Chen, what’s going on? Is what they said true?”
I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at her. The woman was dressed in a Chanel suit, adorned with expensive jewelry. The child in her arms had delicate features and big, sparkling eyes, curiously surveying the people in the conference room.
Upon seeing the woman and child, Wei Chen ’s expression instantly darkened further. He opened his mouth but couldn’t say anything.
“Excuse me, madam, who are you?” the eldest brother spoke first, his tone tinged with displeasure.
“I am Wei Chen ’s wife, Huazi,” the woman replied as she walked over to Wei Chen, shoving the child into his arms. “This is our son, Wei Yu.”
Wei Chen stared blankly at the child in his arms, his expression complex and unreadable.
Watching this scene unfold, I couldn’t help but sneer internally; this Huazi really knew how to pick her moments.
“Miss Huazi, please understand the situation. Wei Chen is in no position to protect himself right now. What do you intend to do by bringing a child here at this time?” I said coldly.
Huazi lifted her head, glaring at me with resentment. “Don’t get too pleased with yourself. Even without Wei Chen, my son and I are still part of the the Wei Family. We have a share in this inheritance!”
“Oh really?” I scoffed, pulling a document from my bag and tossing it in front of Huazi. “Then take a look at this!”
Confused, Huazi picked up the document. When she saw its contents, her face turned pale instantly. The document was evidence of her and Wei Chen transferring assets over the years, as well as proof of their secret marriage in Japan. I scanned the room before locking my gaze on Huazi and said clearly, “ Wei Chen entered into a marriage agreement with me five years ago, while you, Miss Huazi, are nothing more than an interloper who has disrupted someone else's marriage.”
Huazi’s eyes widened in disbelief as the document slipped from her hands and fell to the ground. Her lips trembled as she tried to say something but couldn’t utter a word.
Old Master Wei suddenly stood up, looking at Wei Chen in disbelief, and shouted, "Unfilial Son! What... what else do you have to say?!"
Wei Chen slumped helplessly in his chair, his once straight back now completely hunched over. He knew it was all over. The heartfelt persona he had carefully crafted had collapsed in this moment.
As I watched this scene unfold, I felt no pleasure, only endless sorrow. This marriage had been a mistake from the very beginning.
I took a deep breath to calm my emotions and turned to face Old Master Wei, speaking in a steady tone, "Old Master Wei, I have already instructed my lawyer to file for divorce and will hold Wei Chen legally accountable for transferring company assets."
Old Master Wei weakly waved his hand, as if he had aged ten years in an instant. His voice was filled with exhaustion and disappointment: "Enough, enough. You may leave; from now on, you have no ties with the the Wei Family."
I nodded slightly and turned to leave the conference room.
Gu Shisheng followed behind me, reaching out to hold my hand. His grip was warm and strong, giving me immense strength.
I turned to him and offered a grateful smile.
Sunlight streamed through the windows into the corridor, and the glass at the end of the hallway reflected dazzling light. I seemed to see hope for the future.
Taking a deep breath, I walked away from this place that had once brought me endless pain with determined steps.
