An hour later, the surgery was over. Wen Haohao was pushed out, his face pale and eyes tightly closed. My mother rushed over, crying, "Haohou, my dear grandson, how did you end up like this?" My sister-in-law stood by, wiping her tears.
The doctor took off his mask and said, "The surgery was very successful, but the patient will need to stay in the hospital for a few more days for observation." My mother nodded repeatedly, "Okay, okay, thank you, doctor." The doctor waved his hand and turned to leave.
My sister-in-law softly comforted her, "Mom, don't worry. The doctor said the surgery was successful; Haohou will definitely get better." My mother shot her a glare: "You better pray that Haohou is okay; otherwise, I won't let you off the hook!" My sister-in-law's expression changed, a flash of resentment in her eyes.
My brother quickly intervened, "Mom, Zhenzhen, stop arguing. Let's hurry and get Haohou admitted to the hospital." My mother snorted and turned to leave. My sister-in-law glared at my brother fiercely, stomped her foot, and followed her out. My brother scratched his head, looking helpless.
I smiled and reassured him, "Don’t worry, brother; Haohou will be fine." He sighed, "I hope so." Bai Zhenzhen had a heated argument with my brother.
The doctor stated that Wen Haohao's kidney issues were very serious and that he needed immediate dialysis treatment; delaying any further would make the situation extremely dangerous. However, Bai Zhenzhen refused to believe it, thinking the hospital was trying to scam money and stubbornly refused to sign for the surgery.
The doctor patiently explained, "Wen Haohao has hypernatremia; it's because you fed him too much salt that burdened his kidneys and led to this condition. During infancy, his kidneys are not fully developed and do not require additional salt; feeding him salt will only damage his kidney function."
Bai Zhenzhen bit her lip, a hint of hesitation crossing her face. After a pause, she said, "That can't be true; other kids are fine." The doctor replied patiently, "I don't know how other kids are raised; I only know that with Wen Haohao's current condition, if we don't start dialysis immediately, it will become very dangerous!"
Bai Zhenzhen still wouldn't believe it: "Don't scare me. How could it possibly be dangerous? Haohou was fine before, how could it suddenly become dangerous? I think you just want to scam money and are deliberately making it sound so serious!"
The doctor took a deep breath and said coldly, "If you refuse to sign, we will have to give up on the treatment."
Bai Zhenzhen shouted, "What kind of attitude is that? Do you even want to keep your job? Do you believe I will file a complaint against you?"
The doctor's expression darkened. "Do as you wish."
With that, the doctor turned and left.
Bai Zhenzhen was furious and turned to my brother, saying, "Look at this doctor! Their attitude is terrible!"
My brother frowned and said, "Zhenzhen, stop making a scene and sign the paper. Look at Haohou; he's about to collapse!"
Following his gaze, I saw Wen Haohao's pale little face, his body convulsing in pain.
Bai Zhenzhen still insisted, "No way, I can't let them scam us. Haohou will be fine."
My brother was infuriated. He snatched the surgery consent form and quickly signed his name before throwing it harshly at Bai Zhenzhen. "Damn it, I've had enough of you!"
Bai Zhenzhen was taken aback and then screamed, "Wen Duan, how dare you curse at me?"
My brother shouted back, "Not only do I dare to curse at you, but I also dare to hit you!"
With that, he raised his hand and slapped Bai Zhenzhen hard across the face.
Bai Zhenzhen stumbled back and fell to the ground, five clear finger marks appearing on her face. She covered her cheek in disbelief and stared at my brother. "Wen Duan, you actually hit me?"
My brother's eyes were red with anger as he yelled, "I hit you because of what you've done! Look at the mess you've created! If it weren't for you feeding Haohou so much salt every day, how could he end up like this? You wicked woman, you almost killed my son!"
Bai Zhenzhen's eyes also filled with tears as she cried out, "Wen Duan, do you have no conscience? Why do you think I'm doing this? It's all for the child's sake! You never care for him normally; now that he's sick, you're blaming me? What right do you have to blame me?"
My brother trembled with rage. "I have no right to blame you? Bai Zhenzhen, you fed Haohou so much salt that you nearly killed him. Don't tell me that gives you any right!"
