"Hello..." Despite feeling uncertain, Lin Feng still answered Xie Wanting's call with some trepidation.
"Yes, it's Lin Feng, right?" The voice on the other end was calm and steady.
The more calm she sounded, the more anxious Lin Feng felt. There’s a saying about "the calm before the storm."
"Uh-huh," Lin Feng decided to say less for now and gauge what Xie Wanting meant.
"Thank you for what you did for my family, and also for coming up with a reason for me to raise funds in City." Lin Feng didn't expect Xie Wanting to start off by expressing her gratitude. As far as he knew, she hadn't said thank you to him in a long time.
Did this mean their relationship had shifted from lovers to friends? Or perhaps from friends to classmates? Lin Feng couldn't tell.
In any case, at that moment, he felt a bit uneasy.
"You were indeed raising funds in City; I wasn't lying about that, right?" Lin Feng was very sure that Xie Wanting was in City to raise money, but he suspected she didn't have many friends to borrow from. She was probably just there to take on jobs and earn money.

"Are you done? If you're done, I'm hanging up." Xie Wanting was silent for a moment. Lin Feng could still hear her crying on the other end of the line; although it was faint, his ears had been sharpened by "Forbidden Spring," allowing him to hear it clearly. However, Lin Feng didn't expect that in the end, this girl really hung up again.
You're something! Lin Feng could only put away his mobile phone like a defeated vegetable and head back to the hospital.
Letting her mom wait in this small hospital for her condition to worsen? Lin Feng wasn't foolish; what he had just said was meant to force Xie Wanting to come back and see her mom. Lin Feng fabricated another dialogue for Xie Wanting.

"Hey... Uncle is here too. Lin Feng brother, this is what you asked me to buy, just made and still warm." At this moment, Little Niu finally arrived with bags in hand, calling out to Lin Feng from a distance.
"Come on, put it down." Seeing him carrying so many bags, Lin Feng quickly stepped in to help make space for the items.
These items were naturally the food that Lin Feng had asked him to buy.
"Here, Uncle, Xiao Fei, eat while it's hot." Lin Feng first handed two bowls of wontons to Xiao Fei and Xie Dad, inviting them to dig in.
"Oh," Xiao Fei moved his lips at the sight of so much delicious food, but he glanced at his father's expression and hesitated to eat first.
"Hehe... Lin Feng, how can this be? You shouldn't have spent so much." Xie Dad, a straightforward worker, was momentarily at a loss for words; this was obviously something Xie Mama would say.
"Hey... I'm starving too. I can't just buy food for myself; good food should be shared with the family. Here, Auntie, you should also eat something easy to digest while it's hot." Lin Feng handed a bowl of fish soup to Xie Mama.
"Alright, Xiao Fei, eat while it's hot. Your Brother Feng has good intentions; this child has lost weight these past few days." Xie Mama took the fish soup from Lin Feng and said to the eagerly waiting Xiao Fei, noticing his recent thinness made her feel concerned.
"Mm... Thank you, Brother Feng." Xiao Fei smiled at Lin Feng and then began to eat.
"No need to thank me; we're family. Uncle, you should eat while it's hot too; it won't taste good when it cools down." Seeing that Xie Dad was still holding his bowl without eating, Lin Feng picked up a bowl for himself and said.
With that, he started eating as well.
"Good, Lin Feng, you’ve put in a lot of effort." Xie Dad no longer held back; ever since Lin Feng arrived, he had been spending money and buying things. It was undeniable that he felt touched, but as a man, expressing such sentiments was somewhat difficult for him. However, since Lin Feng had done all this, he could only remember his kindness in his heart.
"Little Niu, you've been running around with me tonight too; you should eat while it's hot as well. Look at these cooked dishes; they look delicious. Everyone can enjoy them with the wontons." Lin Feng called over to the ever-present Little Niu. What a great person; how could he let anyone go hungry?
Next, Lin Feng shared some prepared food with the family members of the patients in the same ward. In fact, there were only two other patients, so everyone just had a little to show their appreciation.
Little Niu truly satisfied Lin Feng's request, as the items purchased were definitely substantial. After sharing with the family members in the ward, there was still plenty left—enough for four people.

Lin Feng asked Little Niu to drive Xiao Fei home to rest while he stayed here to keep her company.
"Lin Feng, that's not necessary. With Xiao Fei's dad here, it's enough. You should go home and rest too," Xie Mama insisted. Lin Feng's performance today had greatly increased her fondness for him, and she naturally didn't want him to suffer.
"Yes, Lin Feng, you should go back and rest with Xiao Fei," Xie Dad added in agreement.
"Alright, Little Niu, I'll see you both off. Come on, Xiao Fei," Lin Feng ignored the elders' advice and called out to Xiao Fei and Little Niu to leave.
"Lin Feng, how about I stay? You and Xiao Fei can go home and rest," Little Niu offered enthusiastically.
"That won't do! Little Niu, you've already helped out tonight; you should go back with Lin Feng and them," Xie Mama said firmly. She didn't want her future son-in-law staying behind either; having Little Niu stay would be even more troublesome since he was just a neighbor.
"Alright, Little Niu, stop insisting. I'll see you off," Lin Feng urged again as he pushed Little Niu gently and left the ward.
"This child," Xie Mama sighed helplessly as she saw that Lin Feng had made up his mind.
"Yes, she's a good child. Young and promising, what's rare is how good she is to Xie Wanting. That child, Xie Wanting, is indeed fortunate." When no one was around, Xie Dad and Xie Mama spoke more freely.
After all, they had been in a romantic relationship; if Xie Dad had remained so honest and straightforward back then, he probably wouldn't have won over a beauty like Xie Mama.
Although the passage of time had left many marks on Xie Mama's face, Lin Feng could tell that she was also a beauty in her youth; otherwise, she wouldn't have given birth to such a lovely girl as Xie Wanting.

That night, Lin Feng slept fully clothed, keeping vigil by the empty hospital bed beside him. It was initially agreed that Xie Dad would take the later shift, but seeing how soundly he was sleeping, Lin Feng decided not to wake him. So by the time Xie Dad got up, Lin Feng had kept watch all night.
Early in the morning, Lin Feng's mobile phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number, but he answered anyway: "Hello..."
"Haha... Lin Feng, I'm here to tell you some news. Before I leave, I want to play one last game with you. I'm sending someone to bring over that beautiful lady named Dong Jie. You can choose to save her; it all depends on who acts first." From the voice, it was clear that it was Song Xin on the other end of the line. Lin Feng was momentarily stunned.
They were actually going after Dong Jie.
