Lin Feng ignored Tesla and quickly woke Dong Jie in his arms. "Sister Jie, wake up."
Dong Jie was still in a deep sleep. Lin Feng didn't want her to know that a pack of wolves was outside because he knew that a person could easily be startled from their dreams, and their mental resilience was much weaker than when they were awake.
"Huh? Lin Feng, what's wrong?" Dong Jie had cooled down from her fever and felt much more refreshed after a good sleep.
"Don't be scared, a few wolves have come outside. Hurry up and get dressed." Seeing that Dong Jie was awake, Lin Feng decided to tell her the truth. He wasn't confident about taking on seven or eight wolves alone, so informing Dong Jie of the situation would help her react appropriately later.
"Ah, what should we do?" Dong Jie finally woke up for real and anxiously asked after hearing Lin Feng's words.
"Just put on your clothes first; I don't want those wolves to take advantage of you." Lin Feng joked as he noticed she wasn't dressed yet.
At that moment, Lin Feng didn't have any good plans in mind, but he knew that making jokes could help ease Dong Jie's fear and allow her to calm down.
"Hmph... you can still joke at a time like this." Dong Jie huffed again and began to get dressed.
This was an urgent situation, so Dong Jie didn't hold back. Seeing Lin Feng bare-skinned covering her with his clothes warmed her heart as she asked, "You silly, aren't you cold?"
"Hehe... I'm tough; what do I have to fear? Hurry up and get dressed." Although Lin Feng wanted to admire Dong Jie's beautiful figure a little longer, the approaching wolves were becoming a pressing concern, so he urged her to hurry.
"Okay." Following his advice, Dong Jie quickly put on her clothes. With Lin Feng by her side, she felt much more secure.
As they both got dressed, anyone unaware of the situation who walked in might mistakenly think they had just finished something intimate.
What kind of thing? Well... that's for you to imagine.
Soon enough, Lin Feng and Dong Jie finished getting dressed. While Dong Jie was putting on her clothes, Lin Feng inevitably caught glimpses of things he shouldn't have seen. However, given the circumstances, it didn't matter much; besides, Dong Jie felt that being seen by this mischievous guy was no big deal since they had already kissed.
Alright, after getting ready, Lin Feng took Dong Jie's hand and approached the cave entrance.
Perhaps it was because there was firelight inside the cave, but a pack of seven or eight wolves was gathered about fifty meters away from the entrance, seemingly afraid of the fire.
Even so, Lin Feng knew that this pack of wolves must be the ones that frequently attacked people around Thumb Mountain. Their immunity to fire should be much higher than that of ordinary wolves. In other words, while these wolves were somewhat wary of fire, it would be impossible for Lin Feng to hide in the cave using the firelight as protection.
If these wolves charged in, Lin Feng and Dong Jie would have no place to escape and would have to fight desperately.
That would be the worst outcome. Therefore, Lin Feng still brought Dong Jie to the cave entrance, looking for an opportunity to escape.
He could handle a few wolves, but he wasn't confident he could take on so many alone, especially with Dong Jie by his side.
Even Wu Song could only defeat a tiger with his bare hands; Lin Feng's current strength wasn't necessarily greater than Wu Song's. Thus, Lin Feng believed it was better to play it safe and not overestimate himself, or else he might endanger both himself and Dong Jie.
Right now, Lin Feng's only advantage was that he still had a bullet in his hand, which could only take down one wolf. Therefore, he thought it would be best to target the Wolf King.
Wolves are social animals and tend to attack in packs. Given that these seven or eight wolves were surrounding but not attacking, there must be a Wolf King among them, or at least a small Wolf King; otherwise, they wouldn't coordinate so well.
As the saying goes, "To catch a thief, first catch the king." Lin Feng believed that his only bullet should be reserved for the Wolf King.
Wolf Kings are usually proud and strong, so finding one among the pack shouldn't be too difficult for Lin Feng.
He locked onto his target—the one right in the middle was definitely the Wolf King. The way it raised its head proudly towards the sky annoyed Lin Feng; no, it really annoyed him.
With a thought, a handgun appeared in Lin Feng's hand—it was that silenced pistol he had seized from Qian Gang's casino. Unfortunately, there was only one bullet.
Lin Feng had made up his mind to deal with that wolf first. If luck was on his side, the entire pack might immediately scatter after its leader was taken down. If luck was against him, he estimated that the pack would still be thrown into disarray due to the Wolf King's death. Of course, this wouldn't last long, but it would be enough time for Lin Feng and Dong Jie to escape.
If it were just Lin Feng alone, he could easily outrun those wolves. However, with Dong Jie by his side, Lin Feng wasn't confident he could shake off the pack. Therefore, he set his sights on a large tree about sixty meters away from the cave entrance. Their best chance was to reach that tree for cover; it was certainly better than being trapped at the cave's mouth by the wolves.
"Jie, can you climb trees?" Lin Feng asked.
"I climbed them when I was a kid in our village, but it's been a long time," Dong Jie replied, glancing at the big tree as she answered honestly.
"If I asked you to climb now, could you do it?" Lin Feng pressed on, knowing that Dong Jie's ability to climb was crucial for their escape.
"I can manage smaller trees, but this one is so tall; I'm afraid I won't be able to make it," Dong Jie said, looking at the towering tree that was at least fifty meters high.
"Alright, give me your shoes." Knowing Dong Jie's climbing ability now, Lin Feng looked at her flat shoes. Fortunately, she wasn't wearing heels, but he still needed her to take them off.
"Okay." Understanding the urgency of the situation, Dong Jie quickly removed her shoes and handed them to Lin Feng.
Taking Dong Jie's shoes, Lin Feng tossed them into his magic ring. She would need them once they escaped; he couldn't just discard them.
Dong Jie thought Lin Feng had discarded the shoes and felt reluctant but didn't stop him. "What do we do next?" she asked, clearly aware that Lin Feng was in charge as a man.
"I'll shoot the Wolf King in the head first; there's only one bullet. When the wolves get chaotic, I'll lead you through the middle. Once we reach that tree, climb as high as you can. Don't worry; I'll be right below you," Lin Feng explained his plan to Dong Jie as everything was set.
"No way! If I can't make it up there, you'll be in danger down here! You go up first; I'll climb as much as I can from below. I know you can climb quickly; once you're halfway up, you'll be safe," Dong Jie insisted, worried that her inability to climb quickly might put Lin Feng in danger.
"Enough talk; it's settled. Just remember not to worry. I'll support you from below; just focus on climbing up. Do you understand? I'm confident I can handle a few wolves on my own," Lin Feng said, telling a little white lie to reassure Dong Jie. If she hesitated now, it would only harm their chances of success.
"Really?" Dong Jie tightened her grip on Lin Feng's hand and asked.
"Yes. Didn't I take care of the Wolf Gang? A few wolves are nothing. I'm just having you climb for extra safety," Lin Feng continued with his fib, hoping to keep Dong Jie calm for what lay ahead.
"Be careful," Dong Jie reminded Lin Feng, acknowledging the validity of his words.
"Alright, get ready... action!" Lin Feng nodded and said.
"Bang..." Lin Feng decisively pulled the trigger, and almost simultaneously, the Wolf King's head exploded. Lin Feng was confident that this shot would be enough to take the Wolf King's life.
As Lin Feng expected, the Wolf King fell to the ground, causing some chaos among the pack of wolves, but they did not flee.
"Let's go..." Lin Feng tightened his grip on Dong Jie's hand and shouted.
After saying that, Lin Feng began to break through with Dong Jie. He knew that this was a critical moment where speed determined everything. Since the wolves had not run away, they would likely stabilize quickly.
Dong Jie followed closely behind Lin Feng, trying her best not to become a burden.
Seeing Lin Feng escape, although the pack was temporarily without the Wolf King's command, one or two wolves still targeted Lin Feng and Dong Jie and lunged at them.
"Ah!" Seeing two wolves charging at them, Dong Jie instinctively screamed.
"Don't be afraid." Amidst the chaos, Lin Feng managed to comfort Dong Jie.
Then, in a moment of focus, a stone the size of a basketball appeared in Lin Feng's hand. He had picked it up while gathering firewood earlier and stored it in his magic ring, anticipating an attack. He never expected it would actually come in handy.
"Bang..." The stone struck one wolf squarely on the head, smashing its skull open as it fell lifelessly to the ground; clearly, its head was not as hard as the stone.
Lin Feng did not feel happy about taking down one wolf because another wolf was already lunging at them. This time, its target was not Lin Feng but Dong Jie; perhaps the wolf preferred easier prey.
"You beast!" Lin Feng shouted angrily as he quickly pulled Dong Jie to his other side and hurled the large stone forcefully at the attacking wolf.
"Ugh..." After dealing with one wolf, another was charging towards them. Clearly, the chaos had subsided, and they were about to launch another attack.
"Climb the tree." Lin Feng didn't want to linger; he grabbed Dong Jie and headed straight for the large tree, shouting.
"Okay." This was Dong Jie's first encounter with such a situation, and being in it filled her with a sense of fear that made her voice tremble as she spoke.
But she still made an effort to climb up.
"Ah..." Out of fear, as soon as Dong Jie climbed the tree, she felt her strength give out, and due to gravity, she began to fall down.
It was truly a case of fearing what would come; Lin Feng had worried that Dong Jie would lose her strength out of fear. But he couldn't blame her; after all, it was her first time facing such a situation. He quickly climbed up the tree with the intention of catching Dong Jie before she fell.
In a moment of panic, Dong Jie instinctively ended up straddling Lin Feng's neck.
The position was quite awkward. Dong Jie could clearly feel Lin Feng's head against her in a certain place, and she snapped back to reality from her earlier fear, momentarily stunned again.
"Jie Jie, don't just freeze there; hurry up and climb," Lin Feng said, feeling quite embarrassed about the situation. However, at this moment, he wasn't thinking about taking advantage of it and could only continue urging her on.
"Oh." Dong Jie regained some strength and quickly set aside her embarrassment to start climbing the tree.
