People around us turned their heads, curiously watching us.
"What’s going on?"
"I don’t know, but it seems like Zhang Xin stole something from Zhou Xin and even poisoned her family."
"Wow, that’s so exaggerated?"
I looked at Zhang Xin with a blank expression. "You say you stole my Frozen Pufferfish Meat?"
Zhang Xin was stunned for a moment, then nodded.
I continued to ask, "You say your family got poisoned?"
Zhang Xin nodded again.
"Heh," I laughed, "Zhang Xin, my family has never bought Frozen Pufferfish Meat. The last time I brought something back from Hai City, it was clearly flower cakes. You stole my flower cakes and made your family sick?"
Zhang Xin was taken aback, then anxiously grabbed my pant leg. "Impossible! You’re lying! You clearly said it was Frozen Pufferfish Meat!"
I sneered, "When did I ever say that?"
Zhang Xin tried to grab me but was stopped by Liu Yu and Li Yu.
Liu Yu and Li Yu stood on either side of me, watching Zhang Xin warily.
Seeing she couldn’t reach me, Zhang Xin started to cry out, "Zhou Xin, you’re lying to me!"
"Hey, you really have no shame!" a voice rang out.
I looked in the direction of the voice; it was a girl looking at Zhang Xin with disdain.
"When did Zhou Xin lie to you? She said it was flower cakes!" the girl said.
Another girl chimed in, "Yeah, yeah! Zhou Xin even gave us some; they were really delicious!"
"Zhang Xin, you’re the one with dirty hands who stole from Zhou Xin. Your family got sick because they ate poorly handled pufferfish meat and you blame Zhou Xin!"
"Exactly! You’re accusing Zhou Xin of stealing your stuff; who would believe that?"
"Zhou Xin isn’t lacking money; why would she need to steal your things?"
"Right! We don’t want a thief as our classmate! Get out of school!"
"Get out of the school!"
Everyone was furious, and Zhang Xin tried to approach me but was blocked by the crowd.
The three of us took the opportunity to leave.
We didn't return to the rental house; instead, we went to a small apartment.
We claimed that we were worried Zhang Xin might go crazy and attack us.
The classmates in the neighboring rental house looked at us sympathetically and said they would keep an eye on Zhang Xin for us.
We felt relieved and boldly went to the small apartment.
"She didn't even go crazy! What a surprise," Liu Yu said, slumping on the sofa in frustration.
"She probably wants to morally blackmail you for some money," Li Yu said.
I had a vague feeling that something was off. "I think there's more to it; there must be another trick up her sleeve."
"What kind of trick could there be?" Li Yu asked.
I shook my head; I didn't know either.
"Forget it, I don't want to think about it anymore. I'm going to cook something," Liu Yu said as she headed to the kitchen.
I nodded and continued scrolling on my phone.
"Ah!" Li Yu suddenly shouted.
I looked up at her in confusion.
"That bitch Zhang Xin! She's on the campus wall!" Li Yu angrily handed me her phone to show me.
"Zhou Xin, I'm sorry," Zhang Xin wrote on the campus wall.
"I shouldn't have stolen your things. Last time, I really only took a piece of paper. I didn't expect you to make such a big deal out of it. I was so upset that I stole your Frozen Pufferfish Meat, but I didn't handle it properly, which caused my whole family to end up in the hospital. The doctor said it was a special case of fresh produce and told us to ask you for proof of purchase so we could claim compensation from the seller."
"Zhou Xin, please, give me the proof of purchase! I'm begging you!"
"Does she really want to buy a voucher?" Liu Yu leaned in and said.
"Let's just say she wants to extort money, shall we?" Li Yu said, her face flushed with anger.
I uncertainly replied, "Maybe, but what does she want to buy a voucher for?"
