"Hello, Principal Hua!" Lin Yin quickly greeted, neither confirming nor denying. Jiang Chen did not respond either; he simply pulled Lin Yin to sit beside him.

Soon, all the guests arrived, and at the appointed time, the wedding ceremony officially began. The process was mostly standard: the host's introduction, speeches from the officiant, reading of the marriage certificate by the witness, exchange of rings by the bride and groom, three bows, speeches from representatives of both sets of parents, speeches from guest representatives, popping champagne, cutting the cake, and drinking from a shared cup.
The wedding ceremony concluded by seven o'clock, and the banquet officially started. Each table began to feast heartily.
Before long, the bride and groom started to toast each table. Since they were seated at the first table, they began to toast from the second table onward.
Toasting had its own etiquette; at some tables, the bride and groom could toast together, while at others they could not. It was clear that at the second table they needed to toast one by one. Moreover, who they toasted first indicated who held more importance at that table rather than following seating order.
Jiang Chen was the youngest at this table and theoretically should toast last. However, for some reason Teacher Gong suggested to Wang Huanhuan that they toast Jiang Chen first, which immediately made some people unhappy.

"Teacher Gong, since he is Huan Huan's uncle, you should toast him first! I'm your student; you can toast last!" Jiang Chen didn't want to put Teacher Gong in a difficult position nor did he want to take precedence.
With Jiang Chen saying this, Teacher Gong and Wang Huanhuan had an easy way out and went to toast that uncle instead. They raised their glasses and said, "Uncle, thank you for coming to our wedding; we hope you'll take care of us in the future!"
Since Teacher Gong and Wang Huanhuan were standing while toasting him, logically the person being toasted should stand up as well. However, that uncle remained seated with a sullen face and said coldly, "Hmph! I don't need you to toast me. Gong Shengli, you should toast your student first!"
It turned out that other relatives initially didn't know who Jiang Chen was. After hearing him say he was Teacher Gong's student, some relatives—including the uncle—felt quite uncomfortable. "Apology? Fine! Drink three cups first!" The uncle still looked displeased.
Three cups? They had just started toasting; how could they drink three cups right away? It seemed impossible to finish all the drinks afterward; Teacher Gong and his best man would likely end up drunk.
Jiang Chen knew Teacher Gong couldn't handle those three cups; even if he could drink them, he shouldn't! Because aside from Principal Hua, Jiang Chen, and Lin Yin at this table, everyone else were distant relatives like aunts and uncles. The uncle picked up his glass, finished the drink, turned the glass upside down to show everyone, and said, "Look, I've finished mine. Now it's his turn!" After saying that, he looked at Jiang Chen smugly, waiting for him to make a fool of himself.
Jiang Chen showed no fear and filled his glass with liquor before drinking it down. One glass, two glasses... nine glasses!
