The people around started laughing.
" old man Li, stop pretending."
"Yeah, who doesn't know you're a habitual offender?"
"Officer, he was caught stealing takeout and is deliberately framing someone."
Everyone chimed in.
The police officer and the property staff exchanged glances, both showing expressions of helplessness.
" old man Li, what you're doing is wrong," the officer said, looking at old man Li. "Stealing takeout is already bad enough, but now you're framing someone else. Do you know that's a crime?"
old man Li opened his mouth, wanting to say something.
"Alright, alright, just go back," the officer waved his hand impatiently.
"I... I refuse to accept this!" old man Li suddenly shouted.
"I refuse to accept this!"
"He clearly poisoned the takeout!"
"I want to sue him!" old man Li yelled desperately.
"Poisoning?" The officer paused for a moment and looked at me.
"Officer, don't listen to his nonsense," I quickly said. "How could I possibly poison anyone?"
"It was you who poisoned it!" old man Li pointed at me and shouted, "I ate your takeout and then got diarrhea!"
"Diarrhea means you ate laxatives?" I scoffed and replied, "What if you ate something else or had food poisoning?"
old man Li was suddenly at a loss for words.
"Right, I just remembered something!" I pretended to have an epiphany.
"Officer, it wasn't him who put laxatives in the takeout; it was me!"
"You?"
The officer was taken aback.
"Why?"
The officer asked, puzzled.
"Well..."
I scratched my head and said, "It's actually because I've been constipated lately, so I had my dad mix a little laxative into my porridge. Unexpectedly, old man Li stole the porridge with the laxative in it, and that's why he has diarrhea."
My explanation had many holes, but the officer understood.
old man Li was just making a fuss.
The officer nodded.
"Officer, this can't be considered a crime, right?"
I asked cautiously.
The officer hesitated for a moment and said, "Poisoning is certainly wrong, but you did this for medical reasons..."
"Exactly!"
I quickly nodded in agreement.
"Officer, you have to stand up for me!"
old man Li shouted.
"Stop yelling!"
The officer shot him a glare and said, "We all know what's going on here."
"What do you mean?"
old man Li was momentarily stunned.
Seeing old man Li in a tough spot made me feel delighted.
The officer sighed as he looked at old man Li.
"Old Man Li, don't call the police randomly about these things in the future."
"If it weren't for the fact that you're the victim, we would have penalized you."
"Alright, that's enough. Everyone disperse."
The officer shook his head and turned to leave.
The two property staff members also followed suit.
Only old man Li was left standing there, looking awkward. I looked at him and sneered, "Remember this, old man Li: Don't steal my things anymore. Otherwise, every time I see you, I'll hit you!"
old man Li trembled with anger, pointing at me but unable to say anything for a long time. "You... you..." I interrupted him, mocking, "What about me?"
"Why don't you hurry up and go to the bathroom? Be careful not to wet your pants!"
old man Li's expression changed, and he hurriedly covered his stomach and turned to run. In his haste, he tripped and fell flat on his face.
"Hahaha." The neighbors burst into laughter again. I couldn't help but laugh too. This old man Li really brought it upon himself.
In the following days, old man Li was much quieter. He didn't come to bother me again or steal my takeout. I enjoyed the peace.
One day, I ordered some takeout, and as soon as I arrived downstairs, I saw the delivery guy standing at the door. I walked over to take the food and was about to head upstairs when I suddenly spotted old man Li lurking in the stairwell, waving at the delivery guy.
"Hey, wait a minute," the delivery guy paused and asked, "Old man, is there something you need?"
old man Li looked around cautiously and whispered, "I'll give you fifty bucks if you tell me your phone number."
The delivery guy was taken aback for a moment but quickly realized what was happening.
