"Me... I..." Lin Wei's face was pale, her lips trembled, but she couldn't form a complete sentence. She glanced anxiously at Zhou Ziran, then at the lowered heads of Gu Yu and Zhou Ziqi, her hands tightly gripping the hem of her clothes as if she were about to tear it apart.
"Lin Wei, why did you do this?" Gu Yu finally lifted her head and looked directly at Lin Wei, her eyes filled with hurt and disbelief. "We have always considered you a friend. Why would you hurt us like this?"
Lin Wei's body trembled slightly, her eyes instantly reddened, tears swirling in her eyes, but she held back from letting them fall.
"Yu'er, don't say anymore," Zhou Ziqi said as she walked over to Gu Yu and gently patted her shoulder. Then she turned to Lin Wei, her tone tinged with disappointment. "Lin Wei, I know you like Ziran, but you can't hurt others like this."
"What's wrong with liking Brother Ziran?!" Lin Wei suddenly raised her head and retorted loudly, a hint of hysteria in her voice. "I've liked him for so many years; why should you come and steal him from me?!"
"Love is not possession, nor is it about hurting others." Zhou Ziran, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up. His voice was weak but filled with strength. "Lin Wei, what you're doing not only hurts Yu'er but also yourself."
"I didn't!" Lin Wei shot up from her seat, pointing at Gu Yu and speaking passionately. "If it weren't for her showing up, Brother Ziran wouldn't even notice me! It's all because of her; she stole Brother Ziran from me!"
"Enough!" Zhou Ziran shouted angrily, struggling to sit up but wincing in pain from his injuries.
Zhou Ziqi quickly supported Zhou Ziran and asked worriedly, "Brother, are you okay?"
Zhou Ziran shook his head to indicate he was fine and then looked up at Lin Wei with an icy gaze. "Lin Wei, I'll say this one last time: I don't like you. I only have feelings of friendship for you; I've never had any other thoughts."
"Impossible! You're lying to me!" Lin Wei shook her head as tears finally streamed down her face uncontrollably. "You treated me so well; how could you not like me?"
"I treated you well because I considered you a friend, but you took advantage of my trust to spread rumors behind my back and hurt those around me. You've disappointed me greatly," Zhou Ziran said as he looked at Lin Wei, his eyes filled with disappointment and heartache.
"I..." Lin Wei wanted to say something more but was interrupted by Zhou Ziqi.
"Lin Wei, just go," Zhou Ziqi said to Lin Wei with a hint of helplessness in her voice. "There's no point in saying anything now. Just leave and don't come back again."
Lin Wei was momentarily stunned, looking at Zhou Ziqi and then at Zhou Ziran. In the end, he said nothing and turned to run out.
In the hospital room, only Zhou Ziran, Zhou Ziqi, and Gu Yu remained.
Gu Yu looked at Zhou Ziran, opened his mouth as if to say something, but found himself unable to speak. After countless words, he finally settled on just saying, "You should rest well."
Zhou Ziran nodded, closed his eyes, and stopped talking.
The room fell silent once more; however, behind this silence lay an even greater storm.
Zhou Ziqi watched Zhou Ziran's back, his lips moved as if he wanted to say something but ultimately said nothing and turned to leave the room.
Outside the hospital room, Zhou Ziqi leaned weakly against the wall, cradling his head in his hands and closing his eyes in pain.
A nurse pushed a medical cart and stopped in front of Zhou Ziqi, gently asking, "What’s wrong? Is there something you need?"
Zhou Ziqi ignored the nurse's concern. He kept his head down and strode purposefully toward the hospital stairwell.
The nurse watched Zhou Ziqi's departing figure and then glanced at the door of the hospital room, shaking her head helplessly as she pushed the medical cart away.
Zhou Ziqi rushed into the stairwell, leaning against the cold wall and breathing heavily.
He didn't know what was wrong with him. He should have been worried about his brother's safety, yet he felt anger and grievance because of his brother's misunderstanding.
Zhou Ziqi smiled self-deprecatingly and looked up at the dim light in the stairwell, his eyes filled with bitterness.
The person he liked was clearly Gu Yu.
From the moment he first met Gu Yu, he had developed a different feeling for this quiet yet strong girl.
Her smile, her voice, every movement of hers was deeply etched in his mind, impossible to erase.
He knew that this feeling shouldn't exist; he knew he shouldn't have any inappropriate thoughts about Gu Yu.
But how could he control something like feelings?
"Sigh..." Zhou Ziqi let out a long sigh and helplessly slid down to the floor, burying his head between his arms.
What should he do?
He didn't know how to face this taboo feeling, nor did he know how to face his brother and Gu Yu.
In the stairwell, only Zhou Ziqi remained, his lonely figure appearing particularly desolate under the dim light.
