Golden Mad Eagle stood up and removed the small knife from Hong Jian's neck, stepping back two paces to watch Hong Jian. Hong Jian pushed himself up with one hand, gripping his sword tightly as he looked at Golden Mad Eagle.
Meanwhile, Golden Mad Eagle let his hands hang naturally at his sides, smiling at Hong Jian.
Hong Jian charged forward with his sword in one hand, sweeping towards Golden Mad Eagle's waist. Golden Mad Eagle jumped back to evade the sword, and as soon as his feet touched the ground, he leaped forward again. At the same time, his left hand blocked Hong Jian's counterattack with the sword, while his right hand aimed directly for Hong Jian's neck. Upon seeing Golden Mad Eagle rushing towards him, Hong Jian prepared to counterattack, but his sword was caught by Golden Mad Eagle's left-hand knife. Hong Jian felt a chill at his neck as Golden Mad Eagle's knife was now pressed against it.
Golden Mad Eagle smiled and asked, "Is Captain Hong coming?"
"Of course, why wouldn't I?"
This time, Golden Mad Eagle simply sheathed both knives and faced Hong Jian with bare hands. Thus began a series of confrontations between Hong Jian and Golden Mad Eagle, with Hong Jian failing to land more than three moves against him each time. To teach Hong Jian, Golden Mad Eagle also employed judo techniques, throwing him to the ground repeatedly. By this point, Hong Jian was bruised and battered.
When Golden Mad Eagle threw Hong Jian down once more, a person emerged from inside the camp. This person spoke up, "Who is causing trouble at the camp entrance? Do you not want to live anymore?"
As the crowd parted, Hong Tao stepped forward. At that moment, Hong Jian was still lying on the ground and had not yet stood up. Hong Tao looked coldly at Hong Jian: "Hong Jian, what are you doing?"
"Vice Leader Hong, I saw someone causing trouble here just now; I didn't expect it to be those from the Special Forces, so we ended up fighting."
Hong Tao glared at Golden Mad Eagle: "You people from the Special Forces are causing trouble here; bind them up."
Hearing Hong Tao's voice, the soldiers behind him quickly surrounded all the Special Forces Members. At that moment, Liu Guanfeng pushed through the crowd to stand before Hong Tao.
With a smile, Liu Guanfeng looked at Hong Tao: "Vice Leader Hong, you finally decided to show yourself? As for the cause of this dispute, I believe you know best in your heart. How about we go discuss this with the Big Leader?"
The words from Liu Guanfeng startled Hong Tao: Did he know I have been nearby all along? How did he notice me? Was my hiding not good enough?
However, Hong Tao still had to speak politely: "So it's you, Liu President. I truly didn't see you here; so today's incident was a misunderstanding?"
"Vice Leader Hong, I just want to say that we have just arrived in Summer City, and we need to straighten out our military discipline. If something like today happens again, I will report it truthfully to the Big Leader. Also, remember that those in the Special Forces are part of our military too; I hope you understand that disrupting unity benefits no one."
"Liu President, you don't seem to be one of our troops, do you? As for the military discipline and regulations, I will look into it. Today is just a sparring session between two individuals; there's no need to escalate it."
"Vice Leader Hong, I have said what I needed to say. Can I enter the military camp now?"
"Please go ahead."
"Golden Mad Eagle, assemble the team; we are going in."
"Understood. Everyone is assembled."
After gathering his twenty men, Golden Mad Eagle led Liu Guanfeng into the military camp, heading straight for the Special Forces barracks.
Upon entering the camp, Liu Guanfeng didn't even glance at Hong Tao. In contrast, Hong Tao's gaze was fixed on Liu Guanfeng, his expression filled with resentment. He wished he could take a piece of Liu Guanfeng with him. Although Hong Tao had a strong aversion to the Special Forces, it stemmed from love turned sour; he knew that among all the troops, the Special Forces had the strongest combat capability. Even his personal guards were no match for them, as evidenced by Hong Jian's earlier performance.
Hong Jian was trained by Hong Tao's father specifically to ensure Hong Tao's safety, making him the most skilled among Hong Tao's guards. However, today he was easily overwhelmed by Golden Mad Eagle in less than three rounds. Thus, Hong Tao had long desired to bring the Special Forces under his command. He had discussed this with Big Leader several times but was always rejected by Zhang Yuru. He couldn't understand why someone he couldn't command would so readily follow Liu Guanfeng.
From this perspective, Hong Tao harbored deep resentment towards Liu Guanfeng. It seemed wasteful that such a capable unit was assigned to Liu Guanfeng as bodyguards. It wasn't until Liu Guanfeng entered the Special Forces barracks that Hong Tao angrily led his men out of the camp. The soldiers who had attempted to extort Liu Guanfeng earlier were replaced by Hong Tao and reassigned to Firehead Camp as support staff.
Once at the Special Forces camp, Liu Guanfeng said to Golden Mad Eagle, "Crazy Eagle, go fetch Liu Jiang for me."
Before long, Golden Mad Eagle and Liu Jiang arrived in the room and greeted Liu Guanfeng before standing aside.
"Golden Mad Eagle and Liu Jiang, I have some tasks for you today."
"Liu President, please go ahead."
"You two will immediately assemble your teams and infiltrate Spring City. Use the contact methods provided to find Hou Chuan. You will work together with Hou Chuan. Additionally, when I came from Winter City, I already sent all the Special Forces from Autumn City to Spring City. By the time you arrive there, our numbers will total two hundred."
"Liu President, what is our mission in Spring City? Are we supposed to open the city gates or incite unrest within the city?"
Liu Guanfeng shook his head: "Your mission this time is to seize the palace."
The two people were taken aback after hearing Liu Guanfeng's mission: "President Liu, how can we, just two hundred people, capture the palace?"
"Don't worry. When you go in to attack during Severe Winter, there won't be too many guards in the palace. You will definitely be able to handle it."
"President Liu, when do we set out?"
"Tonight. It's best if you leave without anyone noticing."
"I understand, President."
"Prepare yourselves. Remember to move quickly because we won't stay in Summer City for long. If there's any disturbance here, it will be difficult for you to enter the city again."
"Rest assured, President. We will be careful."
"Good luck to all of you. After your mission is successful, I'll treat you brothers to drinks."
"Yes." The two answered and left the room, while Liu Guanfeng also stepped out.
Soon, the troops had rested in Summer City for five days. That morning, Zhang Yuru called everyone to the main hall to make arrangements for their departure early the next day. Everyone had gathered in the hall: "Generals, our army has rested for five days. Tomorrow morning we will set out to conquer Spring City as quickly as possible and completely overthrow Severe Winter's rule. According to the plan from five days ago, Hong Tao and his son are the Vanguard Officers; there must be no mistakes."
"The subordinate obeys." Hong Tao and his son cupped their fists toward Zhang Yuru.
"Liu Guanfeng, President."
"Here."
"Liu Guanfeng, President, I command you to be the Commander of the Vanguard Camp and set out with them."
"I accept the order." Liu Guanfeng glanced at Hong Tao before returning to his position.
This position was requested by Hong Tao from Zhang Yuru. He said that both he and his son were rough men and lacked strategy, so they wanted to bring an official with them on this trip. When Zhang Yuru asked who he wanted to bring, he mentioned Liu Guanfeng's name. This put Zhang Yuru in a difficult position; deep down, she didn't want Liu Guanfeng to take on this tough task. So she called Liu Guanfeng to ask if he was willing to go. Upon hearing that it was Hong Tao who wanted him to go, Liu Guanfeng said to Zhang Yuru:
“Since the Big Leader wants me to go, I will go.”
“The Vanguard is very tough. How about I send another Official to him? You can just follow the central army.”
“Big Leader, don't worry about me. If I go, I can ensure the safety of both father and son. I'm afraid that if someone ambushes them on the way, they might be in danger. It's just right for me to go.”
So this morning, during the troop deployment, Zhang Yuru assigned Liu Guanfeng to the Vanguard Camp. When Hong Tao heard that Zhang Yuru had really assigned Liu Guanfeng to his command, he felt delighted.
After Zhang Yuru arranged all the other positions, he announced the dismissal. Liu Guanfeng exchanged a glance with Zhang Yuru before turning to leave the main hall. Once outside, Liu Guanfeng found Hong Tao: “Hong Vanguard, do you know when I should report to the military camp tomorrow? When will we depart from Vanguard Camp?”
Hong Tao clasped his fist towards Liu Guanfeng: “Liu President, I didn't expect Big Leader would really assign you to me. It's truly admirable to work with you.”
“Vice Leader Hong, you're too kind. I'm just a Supervisor; the entire Vanguard Camp is still under your command, Vice Leader Hong. I'm just here to assist.”
“That's true, Liu President. We will depart at five-thirty tomorrow morning. Please report to our military camp by then.”
“May I ask how many guards I am allowed to bring for this trip, Vanguard Officer?”
“To ensure your safety, Liu President, you can decide how many you need. I'm worried that during combat, I won't have enough personnel available to protect you.”
Liu Guanfeng clasped his fist towards Hong Tao: “Thank you for your consideration, Vanguard Officer. I will take my leave now.”
“Liu President, see you tomorrow morning.”
Liu Guanfeng returned directly to his Merchant Guild while Hong Tao began gathering his troops and issuing orders for their departure tomorrow.
After returning to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Liu Guanfeng called Cui Zhongyi into his room: “Brother Cui, we will report to the military camp first thing tomorrow morning and set out with the Vanguard Camp.”
“Junior Brother, how many people should we take this time?”
“Fifty will be enough; the others can stay here to help guard Summer City’s safety.”
"Yes, I will arrange for them right away."
"Thank you for your hard work, Senior Brother."
"You should get some rest; we have to wake up early tomorrow."
Early the next morning, Liu Guanfeng got up early as usual. Hong Tao scheduled the meeting for 5:30 AM knowing that Liu Guanfeng, being a businessman, likely did not have the habit of waking up early, especially as a prominent merchant. Thus, he set the time at 5:00 AM so that if Liu Guanfeng was late, he would have an excuse to reprimand him.
So, Hong Tao woke up early and gathered his team to wait for Liu Guanfeng's arrival. Just as he was contemplating how to punish Liu Guanfeng, he suddenly heard the sound of beasts running and the clatter of a carriage at the camp entrance.
Hong Tao focused his gaze and saw that Liu Guanfeng had arrived with his guards at the military camp, and it was still a bit before the 5:00 AM deadline he had set. Seeing Liu Guanfeng had come, Hong Tao addressed the soldiers below: "This is our Commander from Vanguard Camp. Alright everyone, you are dismissed for breakfast. We will depart promptly at 5:30."
"Hong Vanguard, I didn't come here to play around, did I?"
"Liu President is indeed a punctual person. Let's go have breakfast together before we head out."
"Alright then, Brother Cui, you and the Brothers go eat first. Once you're full, we can leave." After making arrangements, Liu Guanfeng followed Hong Tao into the temporary mess hall.
Soon, all the soldiers finished their breakfast. Hong Tao regrouped the team, and after assembling a Vanguard force of ten thousand people, they marched out through the west gate under Hong Tao's command, heading straight for the Imperial Capital.
