The Crown Prince walked to the desk. Although everything on the table had been put back in its original place, it had still been slightly moved. Even though the traces were very small, he noticed them.
His fingers lightly glided over the surface, a smile forming at the corners of his lips, while a glint of murderous intent flashed in his eyes.
Yui could only see his back and couldn't help but feel a bit anxious. Would she be discovered? But she hadn't made any noise, had she?
Just as she was feeling uneasy, she saw the Crown Prince open a book and take out a piece of white paper from inside. It was filled with countless names written neatly in black ink.
Yui's eyes lit up; this was it! It turned out to be in that book. She felt tears welling up as she realized she had overlooked it because the cover of that book was so ugly and old.
Indeed, one should never judge by appearances.
The Crown Prince tucked the paper into his robe, extinguished the lamp, and slowly walked out. The door closed gently behind him, and Yui jumped down, stroking her chin.
The paper was in the Crown Prince's possession; she would have to wait until he was sound asleep to take it!
Yui then arrived outside the palace door and tidied her clothes a bit. She wasn't sure if the Crown Prince had fallen asleep yet. What if he was waiting for her by the bed? It was better to be cautious.
She had already thought of an excuse, changed back into her normal clothes, and checked herself for any issues before carefully pushing open the door.
Her Small Bed was still in disarray as if she had just left. She curled up and shrank behind the screen, then tiptoed to peek through a small gap into the Inner Chamber. Suddenly, she was met with a pair of sharp, eagle-like eyes, which startled her so much that she took a step back and nearly fell to the ground.
The Crown Prince leisurely emerged from behind the screen, half reclining on the Soft Couch, casting a sidelong glance at her with a smile that was neither here nor there. "Yui, what are you looking at so late?"
Although Yui felt weak in both her hands and feet, she managed to support herself and stand up, saying timidly, "I... I heard some noise inside and wanted to see if the Crown Prince needed anything."
Yui couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed; she hadn't learned much since coming to this world, yet she could tell a lie without batting an eye and respond quickly.
"Oh?" The Crown Prince raised an eyebrow, suddenly smiling. His voice softened and became gentler. "I thought it was some kind of intruder."
