"What happened?" Evil Bird asked me loudly, suspicious of my sudden reaction.
I didn't answer him and continued to sit on the ground, staring blankly at the Stone Statue. I had felt something was off earlier, and now I realized that the face of this Stone Statue was very long—not just long, but almost like a horse's face. In its right hand, it held a soul-reaping spear. Although it was made of stone, the sharp curve of the blade was hard to ignore. Could this be a Yin Soldier?
Before long, they approached. Seeing their vigilant expressions, I stood up calmly without waiting for them to ask anything. I brushed off the dirt from my clothes and laughed, "Hahaha, just kidding! Who told you to make me walk into danger!"
Seeing me laugh so happily, Evil Bird looked very displeased and seemed ready to come over and fight me. Divine Hand pulled him back and said lightly, "Don't break it; we still need it later."
Upon hearing this, Evil Bird indeed refrained from coming over but instead shot me a provocative look that said I'd regret it later. I glared at them in frustration. If only Lemon were here! Although we hadn't known each other for long, I knew he wouldn't let me walk into danger or let anyone bully me!
Here I was, having to deal with this group of cold-blooded Tomb Raiders all alone!
Divine Hand glanced at me and then at the obediently stuck Stone Statue on the mountain wall without saying anything. Meanwhile, Evil Bird exclaimed in surprise, "Is this a Yin Soldier?"
"Please, what a big deal," I scoffed at Evil Bird. It was just a stone-made Yin Soldier. What was there to be so surprised about?
"Hmph, as if we don't know who was just scared out of their wits by this thing!" Evil Bird said with a sarcastic tone.
"Who? I was just messing with you! Who said I was scared?" I shot him a glare and then cooperatively moved forward to scout ahead. With the flashlight in front and ten people behind me, plus my night vision ability, I should be able to spot any danger right away. Thinking this way made me feel more confident.
The surroundings were quiet; no one spoke. The only sounds were footsteps and rustling noises. After about ten minutes, another figure appeared on the mountain wall ahead. As I got closer, I realized it was yet another Yin Soldier. Shaking my head, I continued walking.
I don't know how long we have been walking, but we have already encountered more than ten of these Stone Statues. The darkness ahead remains impenetrable, and I can't tell where the end might be. Looking at the nearby Yin Soldier, I feel that something is off, but I can't quite pinpoint what it is.
After resting for a while, we replenished some food and continued on our way. When we reached the next Yin Soldier, everyone's faces changed. I was so shocked that I couldn't speak because the bag we had used for the Compressed Biscuit was lying on the ground...
"Divine Hand, are we stuck in a loop?" Evil Bird became alert at this moment, no longer relaxed or casual.
I looked irritably at the nearby Yin Soldier; the strange feeling was growing stronger. I examined this Yin Soldier from head to toe, but everything seemed the same as before. Yet, where was this eerie sensation coming from?
"Are we going in circles?" one person asked.
If it wasn't a ghost wall, it was indeed possible that we were looping here due to magnetic field effects. So they discussed it and decided to send one person tied with a rope to scout ahead. If he came back from behind, it would indicate that we were truly going in circles; if not, then it would be another matter...
The scout was a very young guy, looking only about seventeen or eighteen years old. Even though he was sent out into danger, he showed no complaints and resolutely tied himself with the rope and walked into the darkness.
Ten minutes... twenty minutes... thirty minutes...
Time passed second by second, and the young man did not return. We immediately went to look for him, but when we returned to the starting point, there was still no sign of him. We wanted to see him alive or at least find his body, but there wasn't even a corpse...
I sat down dejectedly on the ground and looked up at the unmoving Yin Soldier beside me. Suddenly, the strange feeling I had before vanished. Confused, I got back up, and in that instant, the eerie sensation surged back!
Looking into the eyes of that Yin Soldier made my spine tingle. I weakly asked, "Um, do you guys feel like it's watching us?"
As soon as I asked, the surroundings grew even quieter. After a long pause, Kong Guayan said, "I feel that way too."
"I don't feel anything. You two should stop being so suspicious; what can this bird possibly do?" Evil Bird said dismissively.
Although I wanted to agree with Evil Bird at that moment, the feeling of being watched did not disappear. I looked closely at the face of the "Yin Soldier," and as I stared, it seemed like I suddenly noticed its mouth was curling up?
No way! I rubbed my eyes hard and looked again. Sure enough, it seemed to be lifted a bit. When I shared my discovery with them, they all thought I was just overly frightened and hallucinating. I felt a surge of frustration rising in my chest.
Since they didn't believe me, fine! I thought angrily, choosing not to say anything further. In fact, I hoped that I was just overthinking things. This time, they didn't move forward but cautiously turned back. I had no expectations this time, and sure enough, we soon found ourselves back where we started. No matter which direction we took, we always passed by that eerie "Yin Soldier."
Once back here, the first place I looked was at the "Yin Soldier's" mouth. Upon seeing it, I couldn't help but gasp in horror and pointed at it, saying, "Look! Do you still think I'm imagining things?!"
After they looked over, they were indeed stunned. At that moment, the corners of the "Yin Soldier"’s mouth had risen significantly, seemingly grinning maliciously—perhaps mocking our weakness or enjoying playing tricks on us...
"Damn it! Could it really be this dead thing causing trouble?" Evil Bird spat angrily and then kicked it hard without a second thought.
With a loud "crack," the sound of breaking stone echoed as a small crack appeared where Evil Bird had kicked. Even more bizarrely, blood began to flow from that crack—bright red blood...
Evil Bird was left dumbfounded. Suddenly grabbing my collar, he said, "Ever since I've met you, we've always encountered unclean things." Before I could strongly protest or refute him, Evil Bird revealed a fierce yet cunning smile and pointed at me while saying to Divine Hand and the others, "Maybe those things have taken a liking to this Pretty Boy. Why don't we leave him behind? Who knows? They might let us go if they're happy."
