In the early morning, Yezhi, after drinking the corn and red dates porridge specially made for her by Aunt Zhou, set off on the mountain path with One Gun Brother and One Egg.
Yesterday, to persuade One Gun Brother to take her up the mountain, Yezhi used all her tricks and finally stubbornly said, "If you don't agree, I won't leave!" One Egg laughed upon hearing this: "I actually hope so! I'm just afraid Aunt Zhou will come knocking, saying I've taken her daughter."
"Yezhi, it's not that One Gun Brother is saying this, but you, girl, why do you want to run up the mountain all day? Hunting isn't just a game! Don't think that because you and One Egg caught a few rabbits in the valley, you're something special. In the real deep mountains, with just the two of you! Hmph! You might go in but not come out."
"I know it's dangerous, that's why I really need you as my protector. One Gun Brother, please take me!" Yezhi said with a cheerful tone.
"Dad! I..." One Gun Brother glared at One Egg threateningly. Under his father's intimidating gaze, One Egg obediently stood still and didn't dare to say another word.
"Just this last time, let me see the real mountains!" Yezhi swore to the heavens. Hearing this, One Gun Brother reluctantly agreed.
As they entered the flower-filled valley, Yezhi was too busy admiring the increasingly vibrant flowers and beautiful butterflies to notice anything else, focusing instead on sneaking around with One Egg.
One Gun Brother walked ahead, pondering whether to catch a chicken or a rabbit. He needed to ensure that after a meal cooked over an open fire, he could safely send Yezhi back!
"Wow! A fat rabbit!" Yezhi shouted, pointing at a patch of grass. One Egg eagerly exclaimed, "There! I'm going to chase it!" Before One Gun Brother could react to their voices, he saw One Egg sprinting towards the left slope while Yezhi dashed after him. "You two, come back here!" One Gun Brother thought it was bad news; climbing over that slope was the shortcut into the real mountains. Last time they hadn't even entered the deep mountains but had only wandered around the edges of a small forest.
Once Yezhi and One Egg ran into the woods, they stopped. Yezhi was panting heavily and holding her stomach, lamenting that she couldn't handle such intense exercise; she felt weak!
"Sister Ye?" One Egg asked with concern when he saw her crouching down.
"I'm fine; I just ran too fast," Yezhi replied.
Yezhi then sat down on the ground to rest. She summoned Xiao Fang with her mind. Xiao Fang bounced out wearing denim overalls. Today Yezhi found Xiao Fang particularly pleasing to the eye and sincerely praised him: "Xiao Fang, you look especially handsome today; you picked the right outfit."
"Really, Master? Then I'll wear this every day," Xiao Fang said with sparkling eyes and covered his mouth while grinning widely. Yezhi smirked: Hehe! Sister has been waiting for this compliment.
Soon after, One Gun Brother caught up with them. "What are you two doing... running around like that?" he angrily scolded One Egg. Yezhi jumped up from the ground and shielded One Egg while explaining to One Gun Brother: "We saw a rabbit! When hunting and seeing prey, how can we not chase it?"
One Gun Brother shouted angrily: "Look at your lack of ambition; you've never seen the world!"
Yezhi looked at One Gun Brother with hopeful eyes: "Just this last time; let me see the world."
One Gun Brother did not respond, simply walking ahead as usual. One Egg excitedly pulled Yezhi along behind, passing through the thicket until the towering Big Green Mountain stood before them. It was then that Yezhi realized she had been tricked by One Gun Brother.
Following a path lined with various wildflowers, they entered a true forest, enveloped in lush greenery. Sunlight filtered through the gaps, casting a golden glow. The wind rustled the leaves, birds chirped sweetly, and the sounds of insects buzzed around. A Squirrel with a bushy tail darted through the underbrush, and two antlers faintly emerged from the thicket. Excited, Yezhi was about to shout: she saw a spotted deer!
With a loud "bang!" a gunshot startled the birds into flight, causing a commotion in the woods. "I got it, I got it~! When will Dad teach me to shoot too?" One Egg exclaimed joyfully.
Yezhi pouted and said somewhat unhappily, "One Gun Brother, can't we catch it alive? That spotted deer has Deer Antler!" Little did she know that as soon as she finished speaking, One Gun Brother and One Egg burst into laughter. "Deer Antler" is one of the three treasures of Northeast, so what’s the big deal? They were not interested!
"Master, that's a Muntjac!" Xiao Fang reminded her. Yezhi repeated, "Muntjac!". An invisible pair of glasses flashed, revealing the name and data of the light green Muntjac. She had seen it before in a pale green transmission image but hadn’t recognized it since it wasn’t intuitive.
After laughing enough, One Egg eagerly explained to her: “Sister Ye, that’s a silly Muntjac!”
“‘Hitting Muntjac with a stick and scooping fish with a ladle,’ that’s what this Muntjac is!” To show off her knowledge, Yezhi boasted.
"One Gun Brother" sighed: “Believe it or not, it really was like you said a few years ago! Now, they’ve all been hunted down by Everyone.”

By a clear green stream, One Gun Brother was responsible for cleaning up while One Egg gathered firewood. Following One Egg, Yezhi entered deeper into the woods. “Sister Ye, we’re almost at the place I mentioned!” One Egg pointed towards the depths of the forest. Yezhi gazed thoughtfully; she had heard that wolves are social animals with territorial behavior and usually stay within their range. If this area was indeed where those wolves roamed, then Xiao Fang would be able to search for them.
Instructing One Egg to continue gathering firewood, she directed Xiao Fang to explore. Within a hundred meters radius on the screen, many animals were visible, but no wolves appeared. Would they not change locations? Or do they only come out at night?
“Master, target detected!” Xiao Fang shouted excitedly to Yezhi.
In a flash of green light, something resembling a dog darted past. To see more clearly, she and Xiao Fang ran forward. It was strange that Yezhi, completely unaware of her own limits, was competing with top sprinters. Leaning against a large tree and panting heavily, she realized it had all been in vain.
“Master~!” Xiao Fang called out with a quivering voice.
“What?” Yezhi turned her head just as a dark figure slowly moved. “Black~ bear!” In the green light stood a towering black bear like an iron tower; various data floated around it, but strangely enough, basic information like its name was missing.
The black bear opened its long mouth to reveal its sharp white teeth. Somehow finding strength from within, Yezhi ran to a large oak tree and quickly climbed up.
“Master~, you can climb trees!” Xiao Fang exclaimed in surprise; ladies typically cannot climb trees!
"Well! Even your master just found out today."
The black bear shook its head a few times, sniffing around as it stumbled over to the tree. In fact, the black bear had poor eyesight and relied on its sense of smell and hearing to navigate. Yezhi didn't realize that her running away actually pointed the bear in her direction.
As the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat! This saying is so damn true! What was so interesting that she had to chase after it, treating the forest like her own backyard? Frustrated, Yezhi clung tightly to the tree trunk, staring at the large black bear below that was trying to climb the tree with its two front paws. Oh my, what should she do?
"Master, what kind of animal is that big black one?" Xiao Fang asked, tilting her head while sitting on a branch.
Before Yezhi could answer Xiao Fang's question, the clumsy black bear below nimbly climbed up the tree. As the bear drew closer, Yezhi's eyes lit up; this was a great opportunity to escape. When the bear was only half a meter away from her, Yezhi jumped down from the oak tree!
"Bang~!"
"Sister Ye!"
The gunshot and One Egg's shout rang out simultaneously. The black bear, hit by a bullet, did not fall down but instead seemed to recall something. It dropped from the tree and stood up, revealing a white crescent-shaped mark on its body. It opened its mouth and let out a strange roar, charging angrily toward Yezhi.
"Master, run! If you get hit, you'll be exposed!" Hearing Xiao Fang's words, Yezhi quickly ran backward. Wearing Bite-Resistant Armor, she wouldn't get hurt, but One Egg and One Gun Brother had already arrived; she had to put on a show.
"Hurry! Get out of the way!" One Gun Brother shouted at Yezhi while raising his gun.
Yezhi instinctively threw herself to the side. "Bang! Bang!" Two gunshots rang out, and the black bear fell to the ground.
One Gun Brother and One Egg came over to help Yezhi up. One Egg asked with concern, "Sister Ye, are you hurt?" She shook her head. "I'm fine!"
One Gun Brother wore a troubled expression, unsure of what to say: This girl Yezhi really knows how to cause worry. If anything happened to her, he wouldn't know how to explain it. Both hunting trips had been nerve-wracking; they kept attracting trouble with these formidable creatures. One Gun Brother patted his chest in relief; this was the last time.
Looking at the dead black bear, Yezhi felt a bit annoyed. She never intended to kill it; she hadn't even used Beast Binding Rope. In her subconscious mind, the black bear was not only a nationally protected animal but also resembled those amusing ones seen on TV or in acrobatic troupes that clumsily played on seesaws.
Wait a minute—nationally protected animal? Yezhi turned anxiously to One Gun Brother and asked, "One Gun Brother, we didn't make a mistake by killing the black bear, did we? We won't get reported or anything?"
"I killed a wild beast in the mountains; what's wrong with that?"
"Have you heard of the Wild Animal Protection Law?" One Gun Brother was confused. "What! What is that?!"
Yezhi let out a sigh of relief, glad that the implementation hadn't started yet! People are ranked in different tiers, and so are animals. For instance, when Yezhi hunted wild boars and Muntjac, there was no feeling at all; he even thought about eating their meat. But now, seeing a bear, he finally realized... and remembered something about wildlife protection laws—how hypocritical!
“One Egg, do you remember the way up the mountain?” One Gun Brother asked the excited One Egg. One Egg nodded, and so he was sent back to the village to call people to carry the bear.
Xiao Fang sat under a tree with Yezhi, reminding his master to make sure to collect the black bear's bones. Yezhi felt a bit tired and found it somewhat uninteresting.
“Xiao Fang, stop moving around and making noise; it's annoying!” Xiao Fang had a puzzled look on his face. “Master, Xiao Fang isn't moving.”
Yezhi turned around skeptically and looked toward the rustling in the oak tree thicket, where a little creature emerged—about the size of an infant, shaking its big head: Little Black Bear.
“Wow! A little bear!”
Hearing the commotion, One Gun Brother rushed over and grabbed the little one. Upon hearing "little bear," Xiao Fang excitedly blinked and started patting the little bear vigorously.
Holding onto the squirming Little Black Bear, One Gun Brother remarked, “This little guy probably won't survive!”
“Why not?” No way! Even One Gun Brother wouldn't spare the little bear!
“Without its mother bear's care, it will be hard for it to survive in this dangerous mountain!” One Gun Brother replied.
Yezhi scratched his head and made up his mind: “Then... I will raise it!”
