Yezhi never expected to meet Wolf Child in such a situation and in this manner. Wolf Child had her eyes closed, appearing lifeless, while Big Bad Wolf, who was lying on her back and glaring at Yezhi, was injured severely. There were deep claw marks on his abdomen, and a chunk of flesh had been torn from his hind leg by some ferocious beast. Big Bad Wolf was soaked in blood.
Yezhi called out to Xiao Fang, "Wow, so much blood! Xiao Fang, I'm feeling dizzy!"
“Xiao Fang, don’t faint! We need you to save them!” Hearing her master's urgency, Xiao Fang covered her eyes and examined Wolf Child and Big Bad Wolf with a probing light. “Master, Wolf Child is in terrible condition; her spleen is ruptured, and she is bleeding. Big Wolf has lost too much blood, and they are about to freeze.”
Yezhi was frantic, unsure of what to do. “Xiao Fang, what should we do? Why isn’t ‘Indestructible’ working?”
“I’m sorry, Master. The expired product can prevent external injuries to Wolf Child, but it cannot protect against internal injuries caused by impact.” Now was not the time for blame, especially since Xiao Fang was already feeling distressed.
“Can we move Wolf Child?” Xiao Fang nodded, and Yezhi dropped her backpack and lifted Wolf Child. “Wolf Child, with Sister Ye here, nothing will happen to you!” This was Yezhi's heartfelt belief.
“Master, what about Big Wolf?” Yezhi stopped Niu Niu, who was clearing the way ahead. “Niu Niu, go find One Egg, then bring him here to help Big Wolf.”
Niu Niu barked twice to indicate understanding and vanished into the forest like lightning. Following the path back, Yezhi ran quickly. When she was still 100 meters away from the village, she put on her newly bought Glasses, found the nearest target, and projected an image of herself hurrying with Wolf Child. “Master, call for help!”
Breathless, Yezhi shouted, “Help~!” In the distance, she saw Thursday Brother running towards her frantically. “Yezi, what happened?”
“Thursday Brother, hurry and save Wolf Child!” Without hesitation, he took over carrying Wolf Child, struggling through the snow. Knowing how important Big Wolf was to Wolf Child, she directed him to take her to Barefoot Aunt, while she turned back along the path to carry Big Wolf. After just a few steps, she saw Niu Niu running towards her with red-eyed One Egg.
“Sister Ye, Wolf Child, she…!”
“Enough! Don’t say anything; just carry Big Wolf to Barefoot Aunt!” Without delay, One Egg lifted Big Wolf and ran off while Yezhi, panting heavily behind them, couldn’t understand why she felt so breathless without any weight on her back.
Upon entering Barefoot Aunt, they found her treating Wolf Child. Covering her mouth to steady her breathing, Yezhi watched as One Egg and Thursday Brother used makeshift methods to tend to Big Wolf.
Yezhi suddenly frowned, feeling a bad premonition. Sure enough, she said, "Yezi, this Kid is too small, the spleen is damaged, and there are signs of bleeding. We need to get him to the hospital quickly."
"Then I'll call Cart Master to get the cart!" Thursday Brother said as he rushed out of Barefoot Aunt's place. Yezhi used her consciousness to ask Xiao Fang, "Is there any special medicine in Cosmic Mall? We'll buy it no matter how expensive it is!"
Xiao Fang replied sadly, "Master, even if there is Wolf Child, he won't last until the delivery arrives! If Big Wolf's condition doesn't worsen, he might hold on for two more days."
"Xiao Fang, how much longer can Wolf Child hold on?"
"Based on the current bleeding situation, at most 7 hours!" Yezhi clenched her fists; she had to hurry with the folding bike.
Yezhi immediately ran home, pieced together her folding bike, and rode straight to Barefoot Aunt's place. She couldn't care less about the villagers' astonishment or thoughts. Yezhi only knew that Wolf Child couldn't die; she was still too young and hadn't truly experienced this world yet! Yezhi wrapped Wolf Child in a blanket and gently placed him in the basket. Barefoot Aunt tried to stop her but chased her outside, saying, "Yezi, the bicycle is too bumpy; it won't work!"
"One Egg, hold Barefoot Aunt!" One Egg knew better than anyone that Sister Ye wouldn't joke about Wolf Child's life. He used his strength to push aside Barefoot Aunt who was blocking the folding bike.
Yezhi shouted, "One Egg, I'm leaving Big Wolf to you; you know how important he is to Wolf Child!" One Egg nodded vigorously, "I'll take good care of Big Wolf; Sister Ye, Wolf Child must get better!"
As soon as Yezhi rode out of the village, Xiao Fang activated the Light and Shadow Concealment Technique. She pushed the bike to its limits and arrived at the county town in three and a half hours. After confirming the direction to the county hospital, she rode over.
"Make way! Doctor, help!" Perhaps Yezhi's cry was too desperate; soon two doctors and a nurse in white coats rushed out.
"Little one, what's wrong?" asked Middle-Aged Female Doctor.
"Her spleen is ruptured and she's bleeding heavily...!" Yezhi explained the situation as clearly as possible. Middle-Aged Female Doctor listened attentively and nodded, "Don't worry; leave it to us."
Wolf Child was carried into a room while Yezhi was stopped outside. She perked up her ears to listen carefully and faintly heard a crisp voice say, "Why is this child so dirty?"
Yezhi waited anxiously outside the door when the Middle-Aged Female Doctor came out. She approached her and said, "The symptoms are basically consistent with what you described. We need to use a machine to examine her and transfer her to surgery for a splenectomy."
Most people would panic at the mention of surgery or plead with her not to remove their child's spleen, but this mother remained calm! The Middle-Aged Female Doctor thought of the Little Girl in the examination room, dirty like a beggar, and couldn't help but glance at Yezhi again. How could this mother be so composed? Could the child's injuries have been caused by her mother?

A moment later, the Middle-Aged Female Doctor took out the surgical consent form. "This mother, your child needs surgery immediately. Please sign here!" Yezhi signed her name and watched as the nurses pushed the Wolf Child into the operating room. She sat outside the surgery door while Xiao Fang observed every movement inside with curiosity. "I say, Xiao Fang, why aren't you fainting at the sight of blood now?"
"I do faint at red blood, but through exploration, I see a green world just like my master does, heh heh!" Yezhi was speechless as she fiddled with the hospital bill. Fortunately, hospitals in the early 1980s were not like those later on that required payment before saving a life. Forgetting to bring money had made her awkwardly start explaining her situation, but they seemed understanding and told her to fill out her address completely, adding, "If you don't pay in full, you can't be discharged!" They let her go after that.
A few hours later, the Wolf Child was safely brought out of surgery. The doctor said it was very successful, and Yezhi finally felt relieved. After the Wolf Child was transferred to a regular ward, she asked a nurse and an older woman in the adjacent bed to help watch over her before leaving the county hospital and heading towards the police station.
"Zhang Dou!"
Yezhi burst in like a whirlwind. Before Zhang Dou could express his joy at seeing her, she shouted, "Quickly take out all your money! Where's Xiaobinzi?" Just then, Team Zhu walked in with Lin Haitao.
"Yezhi!" Lin Haitao looked somewhat incredulous.
"Xiaobinzi, you're about to get off work, right? Help me out and come with me later!" Team Zhu stood by with great interest as Lin Haitao noticed Yezhi's urgency and asked sharply, "What's going on?"
"Someone in my family is injured and hospitalized. I left in a hurry and forgot my money. Xiaobinzi, you need to help me watch for a few hours. Later I'll have Zhang Ling come to replace you; I need to go back home."
Upon hearing that someone was injured, Team Zhu lost interest in watching and pulled out five yuan from his pocket, handing it to Xiaobinzi. "Xiao Lin, you go with her to the hospital first!"
Zhang Dou anxiously shouted, "Is Aunt Zhou seriously injured? Where is Zhang Ling going to notify? Don't worry too much!"
"It's not Aunt Zhou; it's my little one!" This left Zhang Dou confused. Yezhi didn't have time to explain, thanked Zhu Team, grabbed Xiaobinzi, and headed towards the county hospital.
"I have ten yuan here, plus Zhu Team's Five Yuan. How much more do we need for medical expenses?" Xiaobinzi handed the money to Yezhi, who was taken aback. "No need, Zhang Dou's money is enough for toiletries; I can get the medical expenses from home!"
The two arrived at the ward, and all eyes in the room followed them as they moved. Yezhi thanked the elderly woman in the adjacent bed and sat by Wolf Child's bedside. "Xiaobinzi, her name is Wolf Child; she can be considered my sister! Her situation is a bit special; she has lived with wolves since she was little and can't speak human language."
Lin Haitao looked at the dark little figure and quietly listened to Yezhi's account. "I am trying hard to help her reintegrate into society, but then this happened... something that almost cost her life. Should I have forced her back earlier? If so, she wouldn't be lying in a hospital bed now!"
"You are overthinking it! Leave Wolf Child to me; you go back to Zhoujiatun!" Yezhi nodded. Once the anesthesia took effect on Wolf Child, she couldn't imagine how she would react if she didn't see her; she needed to hurry back.
Yezhi quietly returned home and used the Pet Communicator to summon Niu Niu and Black Treasure, instructing them to lead Aunt Zhou out of the room. Niu Niu tugged at Aunt Zhou's pant leg while Black Treasure pushed from behind, finally guiding Aunt Zhou into the kitchen. She quickly took out some money from a box, grabbed two pieces of clothing, and rode towards the county town. Not daring to go to the hospital directly, she stayed at Big Cart Inn for a few hours, bought some baked buns, and then entered the hospital.
Lin Haitao looked at Yezhi in surprise. "Aren't you supposed to be back in Zhoujiatun?" Thinking that Zhang Ling was present, Yezhi didn't need to use her prepared response and angrily retorted, "Why are you still here? Where is Zhang Ling?"
"I told her to come during the day!" Seeing that Xiaobinzi had no intention of pressing further, Yezhi sighed in relief; this was one good thing about Xiaobinzi—he was very perceptive.
"Yezhi! Yezhi!" Hearing Wolf Child's voice made Yezhi excitedly exclaim, "You're awake! Does it hurt a lot?"
"Save... save Big Wolf; Big Wolf is dying!" Wolf Child cried with tears streaming down her face.
Yezhi wiped her tears away. "Big Wolf is fine; once you recover, you'll be able to see it!" Hearing Yezhi's words, Wolf Child pulled at the corners of her mouth and closed her eyes peacefully, falling into a deep sleep.
