A few days ago, the weather was clear and sunny, but last night's autumn rain caused the temperature in Rongcheng to drop several degrees, suddenly giving a sense of winter's arrival.
The rain fell all night without stopping, and by morning it had lessened a bit but was still drizzling. The leaves on the Ginkgo Tree outside seemed to have fallen overnight, leaving only bare branches swaying in the cold wind and rain.
Lexington woke up early. In her single days, she might have slept in, but things were different now. With Admiral back by her side, as the Fleet Girl and wife of the Admiral, she had the responsibility and obligation to take care of his daily needs.
After a simple wash-up, Lexington dressed in casual home clothes and put on an apron to prepare breakfast. Only after that did she return to her room to freshen up.
For women, grooming is an essential task. However, since Admiral was not around before, even if she dressed beautifully, there was no one to appreciate it. So Lexington had always kept her makeup minimal. Despite this, her natural beauty still made her the focus of many men's attention.
But now, she rarely took out her makeup kit. As the saying goes: "A woman adorns herself for the one she loves." In front of Admiral, she cared about her appearance and wanted to present her best self to him. However, Lexington disliked heavily made-up women and similarly avoided overly glamorous makeup herself. Besides, Admiral seemed to prefer women with a natural look, so Lexington only lightly applied some eyebrow pencil and eyeliner. Unless someone looked closely at her face, they would hardly notice any makeup; yet this subtle change made Lexington appear even more perfect than before.
While doing her eyebrows, Lexington couldn't help but recall an ancient Chinese anecdote from the Old World—Zhang Chang painting eyebrows.
In the Han Dynasty, there was an official named Zhang Chang who was known for his quick decision-making and clear rewards and punishments. He never showed leniency towards evildoers but often overlooked minor offenses. While serving as Prefect of Jingzhao, he quoted classics during court discussions and handled matters appropriately, earning great respect from other ministers. However, Zhang Chang lacked the imposing demeanor of an official; sometimes after court sessions when passing through Zhangtai Street, he would urge his carriage driver to hurry while he fanned himself.
Zhang Chang often painted his wife's eyebrows at home, and it was said that his eyebrow painting was very charming in Chang'an City. Some officials used this against him in court. When the emperor asked Zhang Chang about it, he replied: "I have heard that there are things more intimate between husband and wife than painting eyebrows." The emperor valued his talents and did not reprimand him. However, Zhang Chang ultimately did not gain further recognition. The reason he painted his wife's eyebrows was that she had suffered an injury in childhood that left a flaw at the corner of her brows; he would paint them for her every day before going to court. Thus, later generations regarded this alongside other romantic tales as one of the four great romantic stories of ancient times.
As a wife, who wouldn't like their husband to paint their eyebrows? Lexington certainly felt no different.
But after thinking about it, Lexington couldn't help but chuckle; Admiral could barely manage to style firefly hair properly—how could he possibly paint eyebrows? Of course, if given the chance, Lexington would still ask Chuyang to help her with her eyebrows; even if they turned out poorly, she would still appreciate it.
A cold breeze slipped through the slightly open window, bringing a hint of chill along with the desolate scenery outside. One might feel a sense of melancholy in such a scene; however, Lexington felt none of that—instead, her heart was calm. Every time she glanced back at Admiral still peacefully sleeping on the bed, warmth filled her heart.
"Ah!"
A sudden scream broke the warm atmosphere in the room.
Lexington turned around in confusion and saw Andrea Doria sitting on the bed with an angry expression, repeatedly hitting Chuyang with her small fists.
"Pervert, pervert! Why are you hugging Andrea Doria? Admiral is such a big pervert..."
Chuyang, who had been sound asleep, along with Firefly, naturally woke up due to Andrea Doria's commotion.
"Doria Sister, why are you hitting Admiral?" Firefly crawled out from under the covers, rubbing her sleepy eyes and looking at Andrea Doria with confusion.
"He just hugged me while I was sleeping! What else could it be if not perverted?" Loli said with an accusatory expression.
"So what? Admiral has hugged me too!" As she spoke, Firefly leaped into Chuyang's arms with a big smile on her face.
"Don't you dislike Admiral hugging you?" Lexington approached with a puzzled look. From what happened last night, it seemed that Andrea Doria was quite attached to Admiral. Even if she was hugged by Admiral, she shouldn't have reacted so strongly.
In fact, Lexington guessed correctly. If it were just a simple hug, little Kiddo definitely wouldn't have reacted this way. Despite her claims that Chuyang was a pervert, she actually liked Admiral very much. Of course, this wasn't the kind of liking between men and women; it was the pure affection that Fleet Girls had for Admiral—a sense of attachment and not wanting to lose him.
"Lexington Sister, Admiral pressed something hard against me." Andrea Doria's voice grew lower until it was almost inaudible.
Although little Kiddo didn't understand matters between men and women, she had clearly been influenced by Zhang Rui and had some knowledge of what that thing was.
"......" Chu Yang turned red in the face; what else could he say? It wasn't really his fault; it was just a natural reaction for a man waking up in the morning, something he couldn't control even if he wanted to.
Lexington was also at a loss for words, unsure of what to say.
"Brother Chu Yang, Lexington Sister, Doria Sister, what are you talking about?" Firefly asked with curiosity all over her face.
Of course, no one answered her question, so Firefly kept following behind Chu Yang, asking until they left in the morning. However, she still didn't get an answer and was dismissed by Chu Yang with a remark: "Why are you asking so many questions, little kid?"
Today, they were going out mainly to buy some clothes for Andrea Doria. Due to her proud personality, little Kiddo never accepted any favors from Zhang Rui's family, so her wardrobe was pitifully small. In fact, it was worse than Firefly's initial situation; Firefly only lacked an outer coat, while Andrea Doria barely had enough underwear to change.
After finishing their shopping, it was already afternoon. With the rain making outdoor activities difficult, Chu Yang stayed inside to tell stories to the two Lolis while Lexington packed their luggage in preparation for heading to the Naval Base. However, when night fell, they still had to go out because it was Thursday, and Chu Yang had to attend a class reunion.
