After some struggles getting out of the car, Chuyang checked every possible cause he knew that could prevent the vehicle from starting. Everything seemed fine, yet the car just wouldn't start.
"Ma'am, how far are we from the next town?" Wiping the grease off his hands with a tissue, Chuyang took a sip from the bottle of water Lexington handed him.
In this day and age, there were no mobile repair services. Even if there were, in a world without cell phones, there was no way to contact anyone. Chuyang could only hope that the nearby town wasn't too far away. Then either he, Lexington, or Saratoga could go to the town to find a tow truck or simply bring a mechanic back to resolve their current predicament.
However, looking around, all he could see was the vast darkness of night with not a single light in sight. Chuyang lost hope for this plan; were they really going to spend the night out in this desolate wilderness?
"Admiral, according to that previous sign, we should be here," Lexington said as she pulled out a map from the center console and showed it to Chuyang.
"There aren't any large towns nearby. The closest county seat is over here, about twenty kilometers away!"
Just as she spoke, raindrops suddenly began to fall from the sky, mixed with a hint of snow wind.
Chuyang instinctively shrank his neck; the cold of an inland winter night was beyond his expectations. The icy raindrops hitting his face sent a bone-chilling sensation through him—truly a case of misfortune compounding.
"Admiral, you get in and steer; Jaja and I will push from behind. It shouldn't take long to reach the county seat," Lexington said as she tied her hair back with a rubber band and rolled up her coat sleeves, preparing to push the car.
For Fleet Girls, a two-ton off-road vehicle didn't seem heavy at all; pushing it felt like child's play. Therefore, Lexington didn't take their current predicament too seriously.
"This isn't right!" Chuyang hesitated. Even after living in this world for three years and having interacted with many Fleet Girls, some deeply ingrained impressions in his mind hadn't changed much. In his view, women were delicate; how could someone like Lexington do such heavy work as pushing a car? It should be left to a man like him instead.
"Brother-in-law, look! There's a car coming over there!"
Suddenly, Saratoga, who was also preparing to push the car, pointed towards a vehicle approaching in the distance.
In the pitch-black night, two bright beams of light pierced through the pouring rain, rapidly approaching them from behind. Judging by the outline lights on the front of the vehicle, it was likely a heavy truck.
Drivers of large vehicles like this usually have considerable experience with repairs; at the very least, they could find a tow truck in a county town twenty kilometers away.
Unfortunately, while ideals are abundant, reality is stark. No matter how much the three waved their hands to signal, as the truck drew near, it showed no signs of slowing down and whizzed past the off-road vehicle. If the three hadn't dodged in time, they would have been splashed with mud from the truck's tires.
"How can this be?" Saratoga exclaimed in frustration.
"Serves you right," Lexington replied curtly.
It was no wonder that the truck didn't stop; after all, it was the same truck that Saratoga had overtaken earlier with her off-road vehicle, and the driver had been toyed with for quite some time. Seeing them again, it was already generous that he didn't drive straight into them; expecting help from him was just a dream!
"Sis, how can you be like this? I'm your own sister."
"If you weren't my sister, I wouldn't even bother talking to you!" Lexington said, turning to Chuyang. "Admiral, get in the car."
"How about I push instead? You and Jaja can sit inside," Chuyang wiped the rainwater from his hair.
It felt a bit wrong for a man to sit in the car while letting women push from outside.
"Brother-in-law, can you even push it?" Saratoga asked skeptically.
"I..." Although he was reluctant to admit it, on this uneven terrain, pushing a two-ton off-road vehicle might indeed be beyond his strength.
"Jaja, stop teasing your brother-in-law; he's your husband now too," Lexington lightly tapped Saratoga on the forehead.
"That's true!" The girl thought for a moment and suddenly pretended to be weak and innocent, speaking in an overly sweet tone. "Husband, I'm sorry. Please forgive me; I won't dare again."
"........" Faced with the sudden change in demeanor of Sister-in-law, Chuyang was truly at a loss for words.
Saratoga was inherently a very sunny and lively character, and seeing her suddenly adopt a delicate and fragile pose felt completely out of place to Chuyang.
"Behave yourself." Lexington lightly patted her sister on the back of the head and turned to let Chuyang get into the car.
"Ma'am, I see the rain is getting heavier. How about we just stay in the car, Admiral, for the night?" Chuyang suggested.
The rain was indeed pouring down harder. Although Fleet Girls had physical abilities far beyond ordinary humans, such harsh weather wouldn’t actually affect them. Whether it was Lexington, Saratoga, Little Loli Firefly, or Andrea Doria, even if they got soaked to the bone on such a cold rainy night, they wouldn't catch a cold. But who would want to see their wife suffer? Chuyang couldn't bring himself to do that.
"No way." Lexington firmly refused.
They were Fleet Girls. It didn't matter how cold it got for them. But the Admiral was different. As night deepened, the temperature would only drop further, and with the car unable to start, the heating inside wouldn't work either. At that point, the temperature inside the car wouldn't be much better than outside, so Lexington would never agree to Chuyang's suggestion.
Just as Lexington was about to push Chuyang into the car, a truck that had already driven away returned slowly and parked in front of the SUV.
With a "clunk" sound as the door opened, a female driver dressed in gray and white sportswear jumped out of the driver's seat.
With the light from the car illuminating her figure, Chuyang clearly saw the driver's appearance. To be precise, she was a girl around sixteen or seventeen years old, with soft medium-length straight hair in a light green color. She had a left-side fringe and tied up a side ponytail with a bright yellow bow on the right side of her head. Her big eyes had light green pupils, and her round face bore a naturally cute smile full of energy.
"Excuse me, do you need help?"
