The gate of the Naval Base was welded from steel pipes and covered with a layer of iron sheeting on the outside.
The two tightly closed door panels were covered in rust, corroded beyond recognition, with a bit of white paint that had not yet peeled away at the corners indicating its original color.
A large brass padlock hung on the gate, its keyhole already rusted and blocked. Fortunately, the brass padlock was merely decorative and did not connect the locking rod and latch on the gate, allowing Chuyang to easily push it open.
Accompanied by a sound that was painfully grating as the bolt turned, what lay before Chuyang and the others was an even more dilapidated scene.
Withered grass, fallen leaves, tall sycamore trees stripped of their foliage, and a row of similarly bare crooked willows stood along the wall.
Describing the scene with "withered vines and old trees with crows" could not be more fitting, except there were no "small bridges and flowing water with homes," only crumbling old buildings, collapsed carports, flower racks covered in bird droppings, rabbits startled from knee-high dry grass scattering in all directions, and a group of crows flapping their wings as they flew overhead.
"What the hell is going on here?"
Walking through the ground covered in yellowed fallen leaves to the central open area of the Naval Base, Chuyang felt an urge to curse.
He realized that this Naval Base had been abandoned for many years. The walls of the buildings were overrun with withered vines, moss grew on every step of the building, and the ground was littered with fallen leaves.
However, it seemed that someone had lived here at some point because Chuyang unexpectedly saw a scarecrow made of willow branches near the gate facing the sea, wearing a brand new straw hat atop its head.
Suddenly, a gust of sea breeze blew through, swirling up the fallen leaves on the ground while also blowing away the straw hat from the scarecrow's head. On its face, which barely showed discernible features, there appeared to be a hint of a smile as if mocking Chuyang and his companions for their ignorance.
"Admiral, they are going too far." The Prince of Wales clenched his fist and slammed it against the sturdy trunk of a sycamore tree. As the tree shook violently, several broken dry branches fell from it into what should have been a fountain's circular pool, splashing murky water everywhere.
"Kirov, it's your turn." Chuyang furrowed his brow tightly but did not say anything further; instead, he turned his head towards Kirov.
"Understood, Admiral." The orange-haired girl immediately took her camera hanging from her chest and began snapping photos of her surroundings.
In close-up, long shot, different angles, and various filming techniques, Kirov skillfully utilized them all. These are the evidence that will be used to demand an explanation from the Qinchuan County office in the future; we must take this seriously.
"Admiral, where are we staying tonight?" Carmicia asked a crucial question, while her sister Aviere shrank back behind her with a fearful expression.
If it were sunny today, it would already be dusk. However, due to the overcast sky, the surrounding light was already quite dim.
"Let's go to Qinchuan."
In this desolate wilderness, coupled with the cold weather, Chuyang was unwilling to let everyone spend the night in this dilapidated Naval Base.
Although there was a small town a few miles away with an inn, he also wouldn't go there because Chuyang was eager to reach the Nanan County Naval Headquarters office to seek an explanation from the local Fleet Girls responsible for this matter.
"Brother Chu Yang, what is that?"
Before Chuyang could turn around, Firefly tugged at his sleeve and pointed at the entrance of the four-story building in the center.
At the entrance of what should be an office building, someone had arranged a thick layer of fallen leaves into a hexagram pattern using bricks and small stones. Next to it were several plastic bags that were clearly food packaging.
"Firefly, that looks like your magic circle!" Bluefin Tuna said with puffed cheeks.
"That's not it! My magic circle has a smaller hexagram inside, but this one doesn't," Firefly retorted.
As a little magician, in her previous Naval Base life, the girl had once drawn magic circles in a very cliché manner, but that was a long time ago; now the Loli had long since stopped playing such games.
"A magic circle?" Lexington seemed to recall something but hesitated to speak up.
"Admiral, in my opinion, this Naval Base should have someone guarding it. Should we call out?" Veneto offered her suggestion.
"Hey, is anyone here?" Before Chuyang could respond, Carmicia shouted at the top of her lungs.
The entire Naval Base was silent except for the bats startled into flight from the other two buildings. No matter how shamelessly Carmicia wailed, no one responded.
"Shall we go take a look?" Saratoga said, and without waiting for anyone else, she rushed toward the office building.
Reluctantly, Chuyang could only lead the others to follow.
In the dimly lit corridor, the smooth concrete floor was surprisingly free of dust, indicating that people frequently moved about here. Unfortunately, all the doors on the first floor were closed. When they gently pushed open these unlocked doors, each room inside was empty, filled with dust, and cobwebs hung in the corners.
However, compared to the dilapidated exterior walls, the white paint on the room's four walls was relatively intact.
A room occupied by someone was located on the second floor near the staircase. The door was originally locked, but under Andrea Doria's forceful unlocking, it was now wide open.
The room was small, divided into an inner and outer area, with a distinctly British style. A row of bookshelves stood against the wall directly opposite the entrance, filled with popular comic books as well as works from the European Renaissance like Don Quixote and Utopia, along with some mythological knight novels such as Eternal King.
On the wall next to the bookshelf hung some costumes that clearly looked theatrical, along with a few rough but fearsome masks.
Casually sitting on the sofa in the outer area, Lexington and Prince of Wales exchanged glances and did not follow Chuyang and the group of Loli into the inner room.
Inside was a small bedroom. From the scattered plush toys and undergarments lying around, it was evident that the room's owner was likely a little girl and also a Fleet Girl; otherwise, she wouldn't have had the audacity to stay in such a place.
"Who dares to intrude upon this sacred demon territory I protect? Depart at once..."
