“Yue Xingze?”
Hearing this name, Liu You'er looked puzzled and carefully examined the boy.
Around 175 cm tall, he appeared disheveled but very young, looking even more beautiful than a girl by three points. His eyes, though panicked, carried an inexplicable sense of determination.
So familiar.
It felt like she had seen him somewhere before, yet she couldn't recall where.
It was like taking an exam and encountering a question that had been on yesterday's test, but frustratingly unable to remember the process.
At this moment, the car was only about 100 meters away from Yue Xingze. A man, seeing that he was about to catch him, directly activated his Ability, sending a red light sweeping towards Yue Xingze.
The boy dodged, but unexpectedly, the red light split in two mid-air and swept towards his legs.
“Ah!”
A sound of flesh being cut echoed as Yue Xingze stumbled for a moment but continued to run. However, this brief pause allowed the car to quickly surround him.
“Ha! You little brat, keep running!”
A tall, dark-skinned man got out of the car. His blocky muscles displayed his extraordinary strength, and around his neck hung a necklace made of Zombie Teeth, looking both disgusting and sinister.
Seeing that victory was assured, he wasn't in a hurry to kill the boy. He looked him up and down and realized that this boy was even more beautiful than those girls—his skin was delicate, his collarbone exquisite, and his slightly upturned peach blossom eyes even carried a hint of allure, making him suddenly feel a dryness in his throat as a wave of wicked desire surged within him.
He steadied himself and looked closely at the boy, feeling an even stronger fire within him.
Although he had no shortage of women at the base, none could compare to this boy. The key point was that the others were all timid and cowering like dogs, which left him feeling uninterested.
As for men, he had never tried it before, but since his brothers were into that, they often shared some crude jokes together, and he didn't mind.
This was the first time he had seen such a gem; trying it out before he died would at least be worthwhile. After all, as long as he brought back the boy's head, that would suffice.
Thinking of this, his gaze darkened slightly, igniting a flicker of desire. He calmly told his subordinate, "Don't kill him yet; just waste him. I want to try something fresh today."
The subordinate was momentarily stunned but quickly understood. Upon hearing this, some lewd laughter emerged from the crowd.
Since they couldn't kill him, they couldn't use their abilities either; otherwise, missing limbs would ruin the boss's mood.
The boy in the center of the crowd watched the approaching figures warily. He wanted to retreat but found there was nowhere to go. Sweat began to bead on his forehead, and his panicked eyes betrayed his current feelings.
He was not far from those people, so he could hear their words clearly. If he were caught, he knew exactly what awaited him without needing to think.
Liu You'er watched this scene from a distance and wondered if it was just her imagination; she felt as though she had locked eyes with that boy for a moment.
How could that be? The boy was merely a Level 5 Ability user and couldn't possibly have noticed her, especially from such a distance...
She furrowed her brows and decided to hold her position for now.
Tension hung in the air; that boy possessed water-based abilities. Compared to other abilities, he lacked offensive advantages. However, if he had a strong character and dedicated himself to research, his attack power could still be formidable.
Unfortunately, this young man clearly did not belong to this category; his personality seemed soft, so he could only barely withstand the situation at this moment.
However, this was under the premise that this group of people did not use their abilities to attack. If they did use their abilities, he could last at most ten minutes.
"Thud."
He was finally knocked down after being unable to fend off the attacks. A bruise appeared on his face, but he immediately jumped back up, continuing to evade, fearing capture. No one noticed a red heart-shaped paper falling to the ground.
Except for Liu You'er...
"Is that Grandpa Mao?"
She stared blankly at the largest denomination before the apocalypse, fragments of memories flashing in her mind. She recalled a small boy standing in front of her with a flushed face, awkwardly explaining the use of base currency.
"Alright, just kill him!"
The leading man sat in the car watching this scene, already impatient. It was noon, and they still needed time to return to the base. If it got dark, it would be dangerous, so he issued the order.
After all, it was just a whim; if there was no opportunity today, so be it. Retrieving the Core and completing the mission was what mattered.
Upon hearing this, his subordinates looked at the boy. A few of them were quite interested in him and had thought they might enjoy themselves later. But hearing their boss's tone made it clear that there would be no chance for that; they could only glance at him with slight regret.
Such delicate skin was rare to find; sigh...
Though they thought this way, they did not slack off in their actions. They activated their abilities, and colorful energy surged toward the boy.
"Bang"
The energy dispersed, and the boy vanished without a trace, not even a speck of dust left behind.
"Huh? Where did he go?!"
Everyone was stunned, looking around in confusion. No matter how powerful the energy was, it shouldn't have left no bones behind!
The leader watched this scene and immediately pushed the door open to get out of the car. He swung a punch at the nearest person, angrily saying, "Idiot! Where is he?"
The person who was hit had blood gushing from his nose, his head still spinning; he couldn't make sense of what was being said. In frustration, he kicked him twice more.
A man nearby, who looked clean and had an average appearance with a medium build, saw the leader's outburst and quietly stepped forward. He handed him a glowing Mutated Sunflower Seed and said, "This seed just absorbed that kid's blood. The closer you get to him, the brighter it will shine..."
"Cough cough. Cough cough..."
Yue Xingze was being dragged by his collar, struggling to breathe. When he was thrown to the ground, although his backside hurt, being able to breathe fresh air made him feel alive again.
"Who are you?"
A cold female voice startled him. He slowly looked up and saw the face that had haunted his dreams. Excitement lit up his eyes as he jumped up and hugged her, exclaiming, "Sister Liu You'er, where did you go two years ago? You left without a note; I was so worried about you!"
To be honest, Liu You'er hadn't remembered who this person was yet, but she sensed that she was missing some memories. She felt there was some connection between them during that time. However, being treated so warmly all of a sudden made her quite uncomfortable.
"Let go."
Yue Xingze was taken aback by these words, immediately releasing his grip. His face visibly changed from pale pink to a deep shade of red, and he stammered, "I-I’m sorry, I was too excited."
"…"
"By the way, what happened to your hair…?"
Liu You'er looked at his pained expression and felt something was off. Not wanting to answer him, she asked instead, "How do you know me?"
"Huh?"
Yue Xingze was stunned by her question, staring blankly at Liu You'er with a hint of shock in his eyes. "You... don’t remember me?"
Liu You'er frowned and replied, "Am I supposed to remember?"
Upon hearing this, Yue Xingze took a step back, lowering his head. A low aura surrounded him as if he had transformed into a different person. He mumbled something under his breath; although his voice was soft, Liu You'er was already at the Ninth Level, and such faint sounds were easy for her to hear if she chose to listen.
However, once she understood what he said, she suddenly regretted it.
He quietly murmured, "I’m your boyfriend... how could you forget me..."
