Ziche was short. Although he saw Yue Xingze's lips moving, he didn't hear what was said. However, he knew Liu You'er must have heard it. He noticed her strange expression and guessed it wasn't anything good, so he pretended not to see.
He didn't know who once said that curiosity killed the cat.
"Why are you being chased?"
Upon hearing this, Yue Xingze showed a hint of joy on his face, clearly misunderstanding and thinking Liu You'er was concerned about him. But then he seemed to remember something, and his expression instantly darkened, looking dejected.
Liu You'er observed his expressions, which changed like a color palette, revealing no hint of emotion towards her. She wondered if he acted this way in front of all Ant Faces or just in front of her.
If he truly had such a naive personality, he would have been completely devoured by now.
There was also the possibility that he was acting in front of her. In that case, it would be easy for him to cultivate an Oscar-level actor in this apocalypse.
Her thoughts were racing, but her expression remained unchanged. A flash of killing intent crossed her mind; if it were the latter, then it meant he was scheming to get close to her, and she wouldn't let him live.
Seeing Liu You'er looking at him with a faint pressure as if waiting for his answer made Yue Xingze's heart race a little faster. He paused and said, "After you left, A City Base was taken over by someone named Yue Chen. He is too cruel; I couldn't stand it anymore, so I left with some new companions. But he was severely injured, and I had to find Core to save him. He is now at Sixth Level, and I thought a Seventh Level Core would be more effective, so..."
He cautiously glanced at Liu You'er and found her expression unchanged. He continued, "I planned to sneak into I City Base and steal their... Core."
After finishing his explanation, Liu You'er still didn't react. He grew anxious and quickly added, "I know stealing is wrong, but my friend is dying! And I will return it later..."
"Stop."
The other person's voice cut him off abruptly. Liu You'er looked at him helplessly as he wore an anxious expression that seemed to scream "please don't misunderstand me; I'm not a bad person," and she silently rubbed her forehead.
What kind of thinking is this? Why would he care if he steals someone? If that makes him a bad person, then doesn't that make me utterly wicked?
"Then you go find your friends, and we'll part ways."
"Huh?"
Upon hearing this, Yue Xingze anxiously said, "Where are you going? Wait for me, okay? I'll save my friend and come back! Let's go together!"
"Go? You little brat, where do you think you're going?"
Yue Xingze was startled by the sudden voice and quickly turned around, only to find that the group had indeed chased after them. He immediately turned serious and urged Liu You'er behind him, "You need to get out of here!"
At that moment, his expression was resolute and cold, showing none of the shyness or nervousness from before.
After waiting for a while and noticing no movement behind him, he turned to see that they had already been surrounded. Sweat began to bead on his forehead as he glanced at Liu You'er with a complicated expression. Gritting his teeth, he addressed the leader of the group, "I take responsibility for my actions alone. Let them go, and I'll return Core to you. I'll come with you!"
The leader had already noticed Liu You'er and his eyes lit up. However, upon seeing her clean clothes and the nearby child who looked tender and innocent, alarm bells rang in his mind.
To maintain such a state in the apocalypse indicates considerable strength. Moreover, there’s no saying in the apocalypse that a woman’s ability is inferior to a man's.
He frowned; although this woman was beautiful and had a good figure, along with the child who looked quite appetizing, he couldn't let his guard down.
But after considering it again, he felt confident with his numbers—almost all were at Sixth Level—and he himself was at Mid-Seventh Level, the second strongest in the base. No matter how capable this woman was, she couldn't possibly handle so many people.
Just as he hesitated for a moment, one of his underlings understood his thoughts and whispered, "Boss, if we sell that woman, it would definitely be enough for us to enjoy ourselves for a while. And that child looks delicious too. Even if they have some strength, they won't be able to deal with us!"
The words successfully prompted the man to make a decision, his gaze turning cruel as he commanded, "Go, take them down!"
"Yes!"
The crowd surged forward, radiating various lights and wearing bloodthirsty expressions, looking no different from those terrifying Zombies.
Liu You'er looked at the boy standing firmly in front of her, and her eyes flickered; that long-buried memory seemed to suddenly resurface.
The Small Black Room, the terrible food, and her childish self.
"Close your eyes."
Yue Xingze felt puzzled but instinctively obeyed, closing his eyes obediently.
"Boom!"
A dazzling white light erupted, and the man was instantly blinded by the pain, left with only a blinding glare. When he opened his eyes again, he saw that the situation had completely reversed; his subordinates were on the ground, convulsing and emitting crackling sounds, having long lost their fighting ability.
His mouth fell open involuntarily as he stared ahead, as if looking at a monster.
At that moment, the woman’s white hair danced in the wind, her gaze cold, her nails dark, and her skin pale.
"You are that Zombie with human consciousness!"
Unfortunately, before he could even finish saying "human," he felt a numbness in his mouth followed by intense pain in his tongue as blood gushed out. Terrified, he lost all his earlier arrogance and knelt down, banging his head on the ground repeatedly, fearing for his life.
Liu You'er looked at his humble demeanor and raised her lips in satisfaction, saying, "Do you know who I am?"
"Um, um, um!!! Um, uh-huh!"
He couldn't understand why Liu You'er asked this question, so he could only nod and shake his head intermittently, secretly observing Liu You'er's expression. Unfortunately, he couldn't discern anything.
"Can you write?"
The sudden change to a gentle tone startled the big man. Cold sweat trickled down his back as he involuntarily looked up, only to see a glint of cold light in her eyes. He quickly lowered his gaze and nodded, not daring to look again, even cursing her silently in his heart.
"That's good~ Go back and tell your Ruler that I want this Core and this person. If you're unhappy and want to see me, fireworks will welcome you. I will bring my friends along for a visit, so don't forget to treat us well~"
Friends?! If you want to bring the Horde along, just say so! Treating you well means serving us up as food! This is no way to threaten people!
Though he thought this way, he dared not speak or say anything.
He continued nodding until the person in front of him walked away slowly. Only then did he stand up and throw a bleeding-stopping pill into his mouth, wincing in pain as tears streamed down his face. He then began checking on his team's situation but found that the power within their Core was completely depleted, rendering them useless.
"Damn! What’s going on? I put so much effort into cultivating that power!"
He stomped his foot in frustration, gritted his teeth, and turned to leave, abandoning his teammates.
Without power, they would only be a burden on the road; it was better to let them fend for themselves!
Less than ten minutes after he left, a figure tossed a Level Four Zombie aside and followed his vehicle away.
Half an hour later, the big man arrived at the base, his face full of pain as he wrote down the events for the city lord, only to find the other party indifferent, his hands restlessly wandering inside the clothes of the beautiful women around him.
"Well, you’ve worked hard. Here."
A Core was thrown to him, and he instinctively caught it, realizing it was a Seventh-Grade Crystal Core.
"Uh?"
Although he understood the question in his eyes, the city lord did not answer. He merely said lightly, "I have plenty of these. Consider this a reward for your troubles. Now go, don’t disturb me."
The big man tightened his grip on the Core, wanting to ask something but ultimately retreated in silence.
He suddenly realized that he and his subordinates had become pawns in someone else's game. But who was playing this game, and what were their intentions…?
"Hiss."
The sound of flesh tearing echoed as the big man's head was suddenly severed, rolling onto the ground with wide-open eyes. A handsome man was smiling down at him.
"Oh dear~ Yue Chen is so cruel, using someone and then killing them. How pitiful~"
If one only listened to his tone without seeing his expression, they might think he felt sympathy for the man. In reality, he looked pleased, even enjoying himself. As blood dripped from the blade, he even licked the fresh blood from his fingers with his tongue, like a vampire.
