"Tick-tock"
Out of fear, Ziche was now covered in beads of sweat, his clothes soaked through. He was extremely thirsty, but there was only a bottle of water and two Lollipops in his backpack. He had no idea when he would be found, so he needed to conserve what little he had.
He sat on the ground, hugging his knees, and as time passed, a drop of sweat fell to the ground, spreading out.
"......"
Outside remained eerily silent, which began to irritate him. Time felt like a dull knife, slowly wearing down his fragile sanity, causing him to scream internally without it being fatal.
"I can't keep this up; I'll end up rushing out. I need to distract myself."
He furrowed his brow tighter and hugged himself even closer, starting to count in his mind.

"Bang!"
Another monster lunged at Liu You'er, but she fiercely whipped it away with her electric whip. However, it was of little use; these monsters came at her recklessly one after another as if on drugs. Even so, they were still densely packed together, numbering in the tens of thousands and filling the entire tunnel.
Some were crouching on the ground, taking the opportunity to launch sneak attacks, while others kept attacking relentlessly. There were even some that crawled on top, hanging upside down, with red skin, ugly appearances, agile movements, and a foul stench emanating from them, all of which tormented Liu You'er.
But what tormented her the most was this.
"Smack~"
The creature that was struck on the head had its skull split in two by the tremendous force of the attack, with yellow brain matter splattering everywhere.
Although Liu You'er managed to dodge in time, in this narrow space of less than six feet in height and less than seven feet in width, surrounded as she was, she couldn't fully utilize her abilities and ended up getting splattered with yellow liquid.
"Hiss~"
Her sleeve visibly corroded at an alarming rate. She decisively tore off the sleeve and threw it into the Monster Horde; that pitiful piece of fabric was instantly shredded into bits.
Corrosive power—these monsters' blood had a strong corrosive nature!
Fortunately, she had encountered many strange creatures in the forest. Upon seeing their drool earlier, she had sensed something was off. So she took out a knife from her space and tested it by stabbing a misfortunate monster's Heart. Sure enough, the monster died, but the knife turned into molten iron.
She couldn't use Teleportation, couldn't get blood on her, and now couldn't make too much noise; it was as if this place was tailor-made for her.
"Smack."
Another whip came down, striking five or six monsters at once. As long as Zombies had energy, they were tireless. These monsters were only level four or five; their abilities were vastly inferior and could be easily dealt with. However, they were different; no matter how many there were, they couldn't take down Liu You'er.
Due to environmental and other objective factors, Liu You'er couldn't find a way to deal with them for the time being and could only hold her ground against them. So now the situation was a stalemate—neither side could do anything to the other.
However, her worries grew stronger because the foul smell of blood in her nostrils told her that these monsters fed on living beings. If Ziche encountered these monsters alone, wouldn't that mean certain death?
"Hiss"
A monster hung upside down from the ceiling. Noticing that Liu You'er was not moving, it quietly shifted and immediately launched a surprise attack, successfully leaving a shallow cut on Liu You'er's arm, but at the cost of its own life.
"Roar"
As the scent of its companion's blood grew stronger, the other monsters became even angrier, intensifying their assault and forcing Liu You'er to refocus.
"The speed has increased again. Logically speaking, it's only level five; it shouldn't be able to match my speed. Could it be that they are not evolved monsters from the apocalypse, but rather unknown creatures that have always existed in nature?"
If that's the case, it could be troublesome...

A figure looked at the ground littered with animal and human bones, glanced at the map in hand, shook his head, and walked in another direction. Although three monsters were gnawing on the remains of an animal ahead, he showed no signs of fear.
The unfortunate remains appeared to be a deer, its abdomen torn open by the monsters, intestines spilling onto the ground. Yet its eyes still blinked; clearly, it was not dead yet. It understood its fate and made no attempt to resist, feeling too weak to fight back.
The monsters paid no attention to the deer's plight as they happily tore at the flesh and stuffed their mouths. Suddenly, one of them turned its head sharply, its blood-soaked mouth looking grotesque. Its gray pupils locked onto the figure, who was now only a meter away.
However, until the figure silently passed by it, the monster did not sense anything unusual. It merely looked a bit puzzled, twitched its ears upon realizing there was no sound, and continued devouring its meal.

"…"
Counting to this point, Ziche lifted his head from the crook of his arm, his stiff neck making a cracking sound as the bones rubbed together.
"Crack"
He was startled and quickly looked outside, but there was still no movement.
At this moment, his eyes finally adjusted to the darkness, allowing him to see.
"It's been over an hour, and my sister still hasn't come. There's no sign of anything outside. Should I go look for her?"
He had already been alone in the unfamiliar darkness for too long; the thing called reason had been worn away completely. All he knew was that he wanted to get out of this cramped space, to breathe fresh air, and to see other humans!
He carefully took a sip of water, grabbed a Lollipop and licked it twice before cautiously putting it back in its wrapper and stowing it in his pocket. Then he crawled out on all fours, minimizing any noise.
Before exiting the hole, he carefully looked outside; everything seemed normal, surrounded by stone walls. He let out a relaxed breath and crawled out.
"Kekekeke~"
Just as he stepped outside, that strange laughter echoed once more.
"…"
He turned around in panic, looking around and finding no trace of any living beings. Where did that noise come from? Could it be a ghost?
"Drip."
A drop of water fell on his forehead. He raised his hand to wipe it casually but caught a whiff of a foul smell. His body froze as he stiffly looked up, only to see a slick monster hanging upside down from the ceiling, its medium-length hair hanging down, obscuring half of its already blurry face.
At that moment, the owner of that face was grinning widely at him.
"Kekekeke~"
"Ah~~~~~"
A sharp scream pierced through the entire underground tunnel, awakening countless monsters from their leisurely state, rushing toward the source of the sound.
The monsters near Liu You'er were no exception; they were a very united species. If one was bullied, the others would come to take revenge. However, this time it seemed that the enemy was a bit stronger.
Moreover, prolonged combat had left them severely injured and exhausted. They were not low-level Zombies; they felt no fear and had long developed a sense of retreat. Now, upon hearing the cry of their prey, they all began to withdraw and ran toward the sound.
Liu You'er did not look too good either. Her clothes were corroded in patches, resembling a beggar's rags, and her body bore numerous wounds from ambushes. However, she was not seriously hurt. At this moment, seeing the monsters leave should have made her happy, but in reality, she would rather have them continue fighting her.
"Ziche?"
A hint of worry appeared in her eyes as she followed behind the monsters running in that direction. As long as she followed these creatures, she could find Ziche. But just as she was about to leave, she paused to carefully observe the corpse, her eyes revealing a sense of understanding.
