“Chirp chirp~”
“Coo coo~ coo coo”
Outside the cave, a forest teems with various birds and animals freely running and flying about.
Inside the cave, a figure stands just a step away from the exit, expressionless as he gazes outside, half of his face illuminated and half shrouded in shadow.
“Sigh, is this a bit too risky?”
He mutters to himself, stroking his chin as he considers for a moment, then continues, “Oh well, it’s still quite interesting.”
With that, he turns around, his entire body disappearing into the darkness. In the next moment, the cave entrance is shattered, debris tumbling down and completely blocking the exit.
---
“Thud”
Ziche, who had already twisted his ankle, was startled by this and screamed, wanting to run. However, his legs wouldn’t cooperate, causing him to fall directly to the ground, his hands scraped and bleeding from the stones.
What’s worse is that the figure jumped down from above, landing on all fours and pouncing towards him with great force, mouth wide open as it aimed straight for his vulnerable neck.
Just as he closed his eyes and waited quietly for death to come, he realized that the anticipated pain did not arrive. Cautiously opening his eyes, he found that the Little Monster was sitting on him, holding an unwrapped Lollipop and sniffing it with a hint of wariness while licking the wrapper.
He checked his pocket and indeed found that it had accidentally fallen out earlier. After considering for a moment, he reached out toward the candy.
“Ah woo”
His hand was bitten, but the other party didn't use much strength, so he frowned and continued to take the candy from the Little Monster's hand, then removed the wrapper, and the strawberry scent immediately wafted out.
The Little Monster unconsciously loosened its grip, gazing eagerly at the piece of candy.
"Do you want to eat it?"
Ziche held the candy near the Little Monster's mouth, but noticed that it shrank back slightly, looking at him with a fierce expression.
"Uh..."
Ziche thought he had misunderstood, but considering the other party's expression, which seemed very guarded, he licked the candy in front of its eager eyes and then held it back near its mouth.
The Little Monster hesitated for a moment, took the candy, glanced at Ziche, then at the candy. Imitating him, it carefully licked the Lollipop, its eyes suddenly brightening as it put the whole candy in its mouth, including the stick...
"Hey, hey, you can't eat that stick."
He wanted to snatch it back but suddenly realized why he should care. So he shifted his gaze and began to think of a strategy.
Unexpectedly, the Little Monster stopped eating, picked up the wrapper reluctantly, and put the candy back inside. Holding it in its hand, it leaned closer to him and stared intently at his face. The two Ant Faces were less than three centimeters apart; curiosity sparkled in its black-and-white eyes as it sniffed around him.
Ziche's body stiffened as he half-lay on the ground. He propped himself up with his hands to avoid falling over but was also worried that the other party might bite his throat next second, so he shrank his head back.
He had been too panicked earlier; now that he observed closely, he suddenly realized this wasn't a monster but seemed like a child about his size. It was very dirty, not wearing any clothes and exuding a foul odor. However, it was small and not taller than him, with clear eyes that seemed to see right through him.
Suddenly, the Little Monster's ears twitched as if conflicted. It dragged him into the hole where he had been hiding before. The strength was surprising because he didn't even have the energy to resist.
The hole was originally small and narrow; he could only crawl in. Yet this child was incredibly agile, pulling him along at a speed several times faster than his own. He didn't know how it managed to do that. In less than a minute, they reached the interior where just enough space was available for two children to sit closely together.
"What... do you want to do?"
As soon as the word "you" left his lips, a hand covered his mouth, smeared with blood and bits of unidentifiable flesh, carrying an unbearable stench that nearly made him vomit. He quickly held his breath and fell silent.
The Little Monster noticed he had quieted down and cautiously released its grip, quietly turning to crawl outside, clearly nervous.
Feeling no malice from the other party, Ziche grew bolder and wanted to follow it outside to see if it could lead him away. However, as soon as he stretched his head out, he froze at the sight before him. His throat went dry, and he couldn't even scream.
Seeing Ziche's head pop out, the Little Monster frowned slightly and moved closer to him, pressing his head back down. But the space was too narrow for him to turn around; crawling backward was impossible unless he crawled out first and then back in.
Outside the small hole was packed with countless monsters, each the size of an adult human, with red skin, sharp ears, crawling on all fours, their tails held high and swaying slowly.
One of the monsters faced him directly, its head sniffing at the ground while its gray pupils fixed on him. Its ears twitched, making him so frightened that he could barely breathe.
It was about to come over! He was doomed!
Ziche was drenched in cold sweat, biting his lip tightly, terrified that he would scream at any moment.
At that moment, the Little Monster stood in front of him and let out a loud "Awooo" towards the creature.
The monster paused for a moment and responded with two "Awoos," seemingly communicating. Then the Little Monster moved away, and those monsters followed it as well.
"Haah..."
Ziche felt as if he had just danced on the edge of death. Thanks to the Little Monster, he wondered if it would be okay after leading those creatures away; after all, it looked more human-like and didn't have a tail...
Wait a minute, that looked like a human!
Suddenly clear-headed, Ziche hurriedly crawled out and ran towards the direction of the Little Monster, not noticing that one monster had remained behind all along, hanging upside down with lifeless eyes fixed on him.
Liu You'er had been behind the Monster Horde all this time and realized this was truly an underground kingdom.
Various tunnels twisted and intertwined, echoing like a maze, where monsters could emerge from anywhere.
However, she was also convinced that these monsters were blind; they couldn't see anything. As long as she didn't make any noise, they wouldn't notice her at all.
But this wasn't a way to defeat them outright. Any combat would create sound, and the echoes would quickly attract a horde of monsters.
Moreover, she glanced around the environment, which was not suitable for close combat. She wanted to sneak in quietly, but the sheer number of monsters filled every space. Even if she knew their weaknesses, she couldn't get past them.
However, the smell of blood belonging to Ziche was faint; it smelled like minor abrasions, suggesting he might have fallen or something similar. But he definitely hadn't been captured—if he had been caught, there would be much more blood.
As time passed, her anxiety grew. These monsters were searching endlessly, and it was only a matter of time before they found Ziche. She couldn't use Teleportation now and couldn't rescue him directly. Should she just charge in? As long as she could injure them internally, it would be fine!
Resolute, she summoned White Lightning and quietly approached the nearest monster. Suddenly, she heard a howl, causing all the monsters to freeze and rush in one direction.
"Did they find him?"
Liu You'er frowned and followed them closely. In her concern, she overlooked a child in the corner of a nearby hole who was holding his breath and hugging his head, thus missing him entirely.
Ziche didn't dare to lift his head until they had all left, so he didn't see Liu You'er either.
When he finally got up and quietly walked for a while, he discovered numerous openings ahead. Frowning, he pressed his ear against the stone wall but found nothing. He then chose the path with more footprints, which happened to lead in the opposite direction of Liu You'er.
