"He's so naive, I knew the War God System wouldn't be so kind; the mission it gave me definitely isn't for a vacation. Even if I become a Zombie, dying this time means two are already dead, and one more is about to die," Rek thought, feeling uneasy seeing his classmate, who he had spent three months with, turn into a Zombie.
Fortunately, although Rek had his soul transported, his skills were still intact.
Rek quickly broke off two legs from a table, creating two metal pipes, and rushed behind Casey and Lily, who were on the ground devouring someone.
"Rest in peace, don't blame me; I've set you free," Rek said as he fiercely thrust the Metal Pipe into the back of Casey and Lily's heads.
The Metal Pipe pierced directly through Casey and Lily's brains, emerging from their faces.
White brain matter and blood flowed out from both ends of the Metal Pipe. With two muffled sounds, Casey and Lily fell beside the female classmate they had been eating.
"Ahhh!" The classmates who hadn't managed to escape were horrified to see Rek kill the two crazed Zombies, Casey and Lily. The gruesome scene caused panic among the remaining female students in the room, some even starting to vomit.
Rek glanced down at a classmate lying on the ground in front of him, nicknamed Black Girl. She was very short and usually kept to herself, often looking down whenever she saw Rek.
Now, Black Girl had much of her stomach and shoulders eaten away, with her intestines partially exposed.
After three months of understanding this virtual world set in 2011, Rek knew there were no advanced Recovery Pods like those from the Star Alliance Federation. Given her severe injuries, if immediate surgery wasn't performed, it was equivalent to a death sentence for Black Girl, not even considering the risk of being infected by the Zombie Virus.
In her critical state, seeing that her savior was Rek, a faint smile appeared on Black Girl's pained face.
"Rek brother, it hurts so much. Am I going to die? I feel so hot and dizzy. If I die, will I also become an ugly monster like Casey and Lily?
If that's the case, just kill me quickly! I don't want you to see me looking ugly; I want you to always remember how pretty I am," Black Girl said softly and intermittently to Rek.
With a grim expression, Rek crouched down and noticed that her skin was starting to shrivel and her wounds were rapidly rotting—clear signs she was about to turn into a Zombie.
"You will always be the prettiest little girl," Rek whispered as he crouched down and reached out to touch Black Girl's small face.
Suddenly, Black Girl's eyes became dull and sunken. She quickly lifted her head and opened her bloodied teeth, ready to bite into Rek's arm.
Fortunately, Rek reacted quickly and withdrew his hand.
From her abdomen, the Black Girl Zombie struggled to rise from the ground, black pus and blood oozing from her wounds. The already Zombie-ified Black Girl felt no pain at all as she staggered toward Rek, mouth open, ready to bite.
Rek swiftly pulled out the steel pipe that had just pierced Lily's head and struck again, quickly stabbing it through the Black Girl Zombie's skull.
With a loud thud, the Black Girl's body fell to the ground.
Rek glanced at the mission statistics in his mind; the class of 30 had now dwindled to 26. Including the three he had killed, one of the students who had run out of the classroom had already met a tragic fate—either turned into a Zombie or dead.
Looking around the classroom, only ten trembling female classmates remained. He realized that he had been slow to react earlier and failed to stop them; now more than half of them had already fled.
"Whimper, Rek, what happened? Call the police! Why can't I get through on my phone?"
"Look outside! There are many monsters like Casey and Lily from before!"
"Zombie! These are monsters from a horror game my boyfriend played called Resident Evil. They look just like those in the game," a group of female students said fearfully, surrounding their only class hero, Rek, chattering nervously.
"That's right. This world must have been infected by a virus. Some people have already turned into Zombies, just like Lily and Casey. Be careful not to get hurt by a Zombie, or you might get infected too."
"What about my parents? Are they coming back to save me?"
"Whimper, what should we do?" After hearing Rek's words, cries filled the classroom.
"You all stay in the classroom and don't run around. I'm going to find the classmates who ran out earlier. Once I go out, you block the door. After I bring everyone back, I'll figure out how to help you escape from school," Rek said.
"Are you sure it's safe for you to go find them? Be careful, Rek! It's dangerous outside; you shouldn't go alone. I'll go with you!" A tall girl with blue hair spoke beside Rek. This girl was Maya, his deskmate and also the class monitor.
Maya participated in the Kendo Club at school. Over the past three months, Rek had heard that she represented the school in competitions and won awards; she was said to be quite skilled with a sword.
Maya also grabbed a Metal Pipe from the desk like Rek, using it as a temporary weapon.
For three months, she had often helped Rek with lunch and they were quite familiar with each other as deskmates.
Rek was the only male class leader in this class.
"I’m a boy, so it’s my responsibility to save them. You all must block the door in the classroom and not run around before I get back.
Maya, you stay in the classroom and help keep an eye on them; they are very scared," Rek said firmly. There was no choice; Rek remembered the mission from the War God System. The more female classmates that died, the more Fifth-Stage Zombies he had to eliminate.
After hearing Rek's words, Maya did not voice any objections, but she was actually feeling quite scared inside.
Rek glanced around at the remaining female classmates in the classroom and recalled who among those who had run out.
Then, Rek pulled out the Metal Pipe that was stuck in two Zombie corpses and quickly ran out of the classroom.
He began searching within the teaching building.
At this moment, the teaching building was in chaos, with many people running around and slow-moving Zombies looking to eat. Rek searched and found five classmates in several classrooms.
Holding the Metal Pipe, Rek fought his way through the transformed Zombies, leading the five female classmates behind him.
Fortunately, after three months of getting along, as the only boy in the class, Rek had some authority in this crisis situation. The frightened female classmates listened to Rek's commanding tone and followed his instructions without hesitation.
When Rek reached the first floor, he saw five or six Zombies gathered at the revolving door of the teaching building, hunched over and devouring several people. If they started eating like that, it would likely scare ordinary students away from approaching at all.
