The homeroom teacher stood at the podium holding an Electronic Roster and continuously called out the names of students. After announcing each student's assignment, he casually tossed a metal nameplate with a chip from the drawer of the podium.
Students in the classroom responded one after another and approached to take their soldier nameplates. After confirming it was theirs with a glance, they put them around their necks.
“Rek, Enhanced Combat Mecha Special Forces, ID XMTZ01932”
“Present,” Rek said as he stood up.
Finally, it was his turn. Enhanced Combat Mecha Special Forces sounded like a dangerous frontline unit. However, compared to the impending world destruction two months later due to the Ultimate Weapon's outbreak, all other dangers could be disregarded for now.
Rek quickly walked to the podium and retrieved his Soldier Tag.
Back at his seat, Rek examined the Soldier Tag carefully. The back was inscribed with Rek's name and soldier number, while the front displayed the national emblem of the Star Alliance Federation along with a small sealed chip.
Rek carefully hung the identity tag around his neck, just like the other students, inhaling the armored interior of the Genetic Mech.
"This parallel universe's Star Alliance Federation shouldn't be as sinister as my own universe's Glorious Empire, right? They wouldn't put a bomb or something on the neck tag," Rek thought nervously.
The homeroom teacher soon finished distributing the tags.
"Salty Fish, don't try to show off on the battlefield. Fight for the future of the Star Alliance. But I hope you all survive until the end of the war. There's news from above that many years ago, an Outer Space Probe was launched and has found planets rich in energy and suitable for human habitation. It seems that the war with those scoundrels from the Glorious Empire might finally come to an end.
This last piece of information is something I’m only telling you after three years together. It’s not to be shared outside. If anyone lets it slip, I won’t take responsibility. Those who leak information will face my wrath; you know what that means!" The homeroom teacher said, driving her sword sheath into the podium as she spoke.
The entire class of Students was momentarily stunned by her words.
After fifty years of war, there was finally hope for an end; they had found a planet suitable for human habitation. This news was overwhelming for them.
"Get out of here; keep your mouths shut if you want to live long. Today, I hand over your Soldier Tags to you, and I hope next year I won't have to give these tags to your families," the female homeroom teacher said somberly, waving her sword sheath to signal the students to leave.
The students in the classroom stood up, saluted their homeroom teacher with a military salute of the Star Alliance Federation, and orderly exited the classroom. Rek followed them outside.
"Rek, you're the only one in our class assigned to the Enhanced Combat Mecha Special Forces. Be careful; I've heard that Special Forces are often sent on suicide missions on the battlefield. Most of them are crazy. I wish you could come back alive," a classmate named Li Ming said, patting Rek on the shoulder.
"As long as you're going to battle, there's no absolutely safe unit. Let's all come back alive!" Rek replied casually.
Previously, the homeroom teacher mentioned that a rumor detector had discovered planets in the universe suitable for human habitation, and the war might soon come to an end. Although the other students were somewhat excited by this news,
Rek, looking at the countdown above his right eye that only he could see, knew that the doomsday of Earth's destruction had not changed or been postponed; the only way to end the war was still through annihilation.
Rek followed his classmates to the cafeteria.
Using his Soldier Tag, Rek received three bags of pale yellow nutrient liquid.
He noticed that other students had started heading to the playground to find their respective Transport Vehicles.
Rek opened one bag of nutrient liquid, which had a familiar taste that made him want to vomit. After the Alien Species attacked Earth, the Star Alliance Government distributed this unpalatable nutrient liquid as food to citizens.
It had been over ten years since Rek last drank it, and he never expected that after being reborn, he would once again have to rely on it to fill his stomach.
On the playground, Rek slowly swallowed the nutrient liquid and found a Transport Vehicle that matched his Soldier Tag.
It was a black hover car with a large container attached at the back.
Two soldiers were guarding behind the container, and several students had already approached to present their tags. The guarding soldiers merely glanced at them before allowing them to sit inside the container.
Rek also handed over his Soldier Tag, which was briefly inspected before he was allowed through.
He recalled the homeroom teacher's warning in class: if one boarded the wrong Transport Vehicle and failed to arrive at their unit on time, they would be treated as a deserter.
After confirming multiple times that it was indeed his unit's Transport Vehicle, Rek finally entered the container.
Inside the heavy Container, more than ten students were squatting down.
Rek also found a corner to sit in. The smell inside the Hovering Container Transport Vehicle was worse than outside, but Rek could only endure it.
More students continued to enter, and after accommodating about ninety people, the back door of the Container was closed and locked by the soldiers standing outside. The Hover Car started up. Inside the Container, there was only a small glowing device, making it quite dim.
At first, some familiar students exchanged quiet words, but after about half a year, only vomiting remained; no one wanted to talk anymore. This old-fashioned Hovering Container Transport Vehicle had no independent restroom. There were more than ten small holes beneath the Container, each large enough for two fists, but thankfully the light was dim---
After three days of continuous travel, the Transport Vehicle finally stopped. Rek finally understood why the cafeteria had distributed three bags of nutrient solution earlier; it turned out to be one bag per day.
When the Container's door finally opened, the remaining students rushed out of the foul-smelling Container, as the odor from inside was truly unbearable.
Rek followed them out and saw in front of him a makeshift camp that could accommodate about ten Weapon Transport Vehicles.
The students who had motion sickness or were slow to get off were met by Veterans outside, who used electric shock devices to connect with the metal plates beneath the Container.
“Ah!” “Ouch!” The cries of agony echoed from within the Container.
“I’ll count to ten before locking the door. If you don’t roll out now, you’ll stay in there forever!” shouted a scarred Veteran angrily at the back door of the Container.
The remaining five or six students, who had already been shocked once, hurriedly rolled and crawled out of the vehicle, terrified as they looked at these fierce Veterans and their unfamiliar surroundings. A few of them, due to poor stamina after sitting for three days straight, couldn't stand and collapsed on the ground.
