"Sister Xinran, Jerry's phone is still unreachable, and we are about to board. Should we wait?" In the airport waiting room, Wujie glanced at Xinran, whose pretty face was mostly hidden behind sunglasses, and asked softly.
Looking down at her watch and then at her motionless phone, Xinran took the ticket from Wujie's hand and stood up to head towards the boarding gate. After leaving the Cadillac, she hurried back to her apartment to pack her luggage, and as soon as dawn broke, she took her bags and rushed to the airport to prepare for her flight to Japan. It wasn't because she had taught Mu Shaosi a lesson and was afraid of his retaliation that she left in such a hurry; this job had been arranged early on. A Japanese company had seen the shampoo advertisement she filmed and loved the vibe, so they contacted Jerry to finalize the work.
However, when she arrived at the airport, she found that Wujie, whom she had planned to bring along, had been hastily called by Jerry to accompany her to Japan. Instead, her manager, who should have been there, was nowhere to be seen even as boarding time approached, and his phone was inexplicably turned off, making him completely unreachable.
"Wujie, let's not worry about Jerry for now. It's unusual for him to be so irresponsible and out of contact. Let's board first and contact him once we arrive there. By the way, you've been to Japan before, right? Are you familiar with it?"
"Sister Xinran, I haven't had the chance to go," Wujie said quietly. Given her situation, being able to become Xinran's assistant was already a rare blessing; everyone treated her so well. Before this, she had only experienced a nightmarish life filled with pain and suffering—how could she have had the opportunity to travel abroad?
Although wearing sunglasses, Xinran did not miss the fleeting sadness on Wujie's face. Wujie was brought in by Jerry; initially, Xinran thought she was Jerry's girlfriend because of how he cared for her. However, she later realized that was not the case. Although she never asked about Wujie's background, over time she could sense that Wujie seemed to carry a quiet sorrow. Therefore, she would not pry into why Jerry treated Wujie so well but would treat Wujie just as kindly.
"Alright then, after my work is done this time, I'll take you around Japan for some fun. How does that sound?"
"Really? Sister Xinran?" Wujie's face lit up with barely concealed joy.
"When have I ever lied to you? I haven't told you yet that I used to live in Japan for a while. But that was many years ago; Japan must have changed a lot since then!" Xinran pushed up her sunglasses and said softly.
If it weren't for this work trip to Japan, she rarely wanted to think back on those days when she lived there; it was one of the happiest times in her life. She had a Granny who loved her just like her mother did and showered her with all her affection. Yet those days were also among the saddest moments of her life because Granny had cancer. She had gone there to accompany Granny in place of her mother until the end of Granny's life. How much she wished she could stay with Granny forever! But fate could not be stopped; all she could do was watch helplessly as Granny grew frail day by day until her last breath.
This time going to Japan, she must visit Granny's grave and tell her that Summer is doing well now and that she can rest easy in heaven. Xinran remembered that Granny loved the cherry blossoms falling in April; they once took a photo together under the cherry trees in Furano Park. That was the only picture she had with Granny, but because she wanted to forget her past life in Japan, before leaving, she burned it at Granny's grave as if leaving the photo with Granny.
"Sister Xinran, will your workload be very heavy this time?" Wujie’s words suddenly interrupted Xinran's thoughts. She shook her head, dismissing the faint image of Granny in her mind and suppressing that sense of nostalgia.
"It shouldn't be too much. This advertisement is intended to be shot as a series of short dramas. I'm just going to Japan to film the first episode; we need to see the response after it airs before deciding whether to continue filming. So, if the workload increases, it will be a matter for later!" The two chatted as they walked through the ticket gate, preparing to enter.
"Young Master Si, Miss Xiran has already boarded with her assistant. The flight will take off in twenty minutes and is expected to arrive in Tokyo around four in the afternoon." A man in a black suit stood outside the boarding gate, speaking into his phone.
"Okay, I understand. Qing Tian, proceed as planned!" A cold and steady voice came from the other end of the line, belonging to Mu Shaosi.
"Yes, Young Master Si!"
