As Xinran stepped out of the Set, she saw Mu Shaosi's black car parked not far away. She walked towards the vehicle as if it were second nature to her; ever since she signed with Sky Media, she had become accustomed to seeing Mu Shaosi after work, whether at the company or on set. It seemed he had made it a habit to pick her up, and she had truly grown used to this seemingly ordinary yet affectionate indulgence. She felt that Mu Shaosi was like a drug to her; every day she became a little more addicted to him, and that slowly growing feeling was something she couldn't resist.
"Where are we going?" Seeing Mu Shaosi wave at her, Xinran understood and leaned towards him. Turning her head, she noticed the suitcase by his feet.
"To the airport."
"Are you going abroad?"
"I'm heading back to Japan for a few days; there are some matters at Cherry Blossom Hall that I need to handle." The car moved slowly along the road as Mu Shaosi reached over and pulled Xinran into his embrace, playing with a strand of her hair.
"Okay." Xinran nodded, acknowledging his words but refraining from asking how long he would be gone or when he would return. She didn't want to come off as an overly eager wife; after all, she wasn't even a legitimate wife. It was already good enough that he told her where he was going; she should know her place.
In two months, their temporary relationship would come to an end, and they would become two parallel lines. So even if Mu Shaosi told her now that he would be climbing into another woman's bed, she felt she had no reason to intervene. Besides, he was only going back to Japan to deal with matters at Cherry Blossom Hall.
"While I'm gone, take good care of yourself. If anything happens, reach out to Shou and Xuan, okay?" Mu Shaosi's hand lingered on Xinran's soft neck as he took a deep breath. If it weren't for the necessity of handling this matter himself, he wouldn't have been able to bear leaving Xinran behind in Japan. The days spent holding her while sleeping had made him crave her presence; suddenly being without her made him unsure how he would endure the long nights ahead.
"Is Mukai Hisashi not going back with you? Won't that put you in danger?" Xinran looked up at Mu Shaosi, recalling Cherry Blossom Hall. The biggest memory that place left for her was the terrifying gunfight. In the past, she might not have realized that even a prominent Young Master of the Underworld could face danger, but now she understood that his identity meant walking on the edge of a knife—one misstep could lead to unforeseen consequences.
Although he had told her that Cherry Blossom Hall was gradually cleaning up its act and moving away from its dark past—those nightclubs, hotels, and bars were all transitioning toward a cleaner image—she knew it was still a cutthroat business where territory was fiercely contested. No matter how much they tried to clean up, it couldn't truly become pristine. Those involved in the Underworld wielded guns and knives; expecting them to suddenly start behaving rationally didn't seem easy to Xinran. Of course, none of this mattered to her; all she cared about was whether Mu Shaosi would be safe.
"Don't worry!" Mu Shaosi gazed back at Xinran; he could see deep emotions reflected in her eyes. This time he believed she was beginning to accept him; her hatred was diminishing, perhaps even disappearing. To hold her tightly by his side forever made him feel that everything he had done before was worth it—especially considering that compared to the bullet he had taken for her, she had nearly lost her life while he suffered no real loss at all.
"But..."
"Since you're so worried, why not accompany me?" Mu Shaosi reached out with his other hand, gently pinching Xinran's small nose and kissing her cheek. If this had happened before, he would never have believed he could be so reluctant to part with a woman. She had completely dispelled the coldness he was used to.
"I really feel bad making the whole crew wait for me. Otherwise, I would love to go with you. I didn't get a chance to properly see Japan last time; after all, I haven't been there in over ten years!" Xinran's face showed disappointment. She truly wished Mu Shaosi could accompany her back to Furano Park once more. Although it wasn't one of Japan's most famous sights, it held the feelings and scents left by Granny that she missed dearly. Unfortunately, this time it wasn't possible, and she wondered if she would ever have another chance.
"You've been to Japan before?" Mu Shaosi asked in surprise, realizing she had indeed visited.
"Yes, and I even lived there for a while. But I was so young then that I can't remember much. I've almost forgotten everything except for Granny's love for cherry blossoms!"
"There will be a chance. I'll accompany you back to walk around and help you remember your childhood!" Mu Shaosi looked at the warm expression on Xinran's face and suddenly felt that even the coldest heart would warm at such a scene.
