"Hey there, you saying that makes it seem like you're being distant. Who doesn't encounter some difficulties when they're out and about? My mother always said, at home rely on your parents, outside rely on friends. Since we met by chance, we can consider ourselves friends."
This personality is truly endearing. Since he said so, Mo Xier didn't hold back anymore. Through their conversation, she learned a lot.
The man's name is Dog Egg, a very down-to-earth name that clearly shows he lacks formal education, but just like him, he is straightforward and genuine.
A few miles outside the forest, there is a small village with only a dozen households. Most of the men in the village make a living by hunting, and from Dog Egg's character, one can tell that the local customs are quite simple and honest.
After walking for half an hour and chatting for the same amount of time, in the quiet mountain forest, it seemed that only their cheerful laughter could be heard.
After walking for a little while longer, they finally returned to the cave where Mo Xier had first come out. Rushing inside, she saw the man had taken off his shirt to check his injuries.
She never expected to see such a scene upon entering. Instinctively, she let out a scream that startled the birds in the forest.
Dog Egg, who followed her in, immediately stepped forward to shield her as if he thought there was some danger ahead, only to find a handsome man!
"Dog Egg! Don't act rashly; he's my injured friend. I just... I just didn't expect to walk in on such a stunning sight."
Mo Xier's gaze was fixed on Night Star's abs without moving away.
Once he snapped back to reality, he quickly put his shirt back on and furrowed his brows slightly, looking curiously at the person next to the woman. Before he could ask anything, she spoke up to explain.
"This big brother is someone I met in the forest; his name is Dog Egg. Isn't it nice? He said there's a village nearby that can take us there! He lives there!"
She briefly recounted how they met, her face filled with smiles as if she really liked this Dog Egg.
Night Star's deep gaze met Dog Egg's pure eyes, and he immediately understood why she brought him here without hesitation. Everything else could be deceiving, but not the eyes; someone with pure eyes surely couldn't be a bad person.
He slightly turned his gaze towards the woman who kept smiling at him and suddenly felt a bit uneasy in his heart. "Then I’ll trouble you."
With a silly smile, Dog Egg scratched his head happily and replied, "Not troublesome at all! We're all friends here! Friends!"
Since Night Star's injuries were quite severe, he initially wanted someone to carry him, but for some reason, Night Star insisted on walking by himself.
As a result, the other two took care of his injuries, and the three of them walked unusually slowly. Fortunately, the scenery in the mountains was quite nice, and walking at such a slow pace gave a romantic feeling of strolling through the woods while enjoying the view.
"Hey, do all the people from your place look this beautiful?" Dog Egg couldn't help but turn back repeatedly, his narrow eyes darting between them.
She had grown accustomed to this gaze and didn't mind it, but Night Star felt a bit uncomfortable; being looked at like a monkey was not a pleasant experience!
Noticing the man beside her had a somewhat low mood, she quickly reached out to link her arm with his, signaling him to stay quiet. Then she spoke up, "It's not that; it's just that both of us happen to be good-looking."
"No wonder my mother says there are different classes of people; those who are good-looking tend to be with other good-looking people!"
Throughout their journey, she had heard Dog Egg mention his mother many times, and her curiosity about her grew stronger. She wanted to know what kind of person could raise a son like Dog Egg.
Dog Egg noticed their linked hands and suddenly widened his eyes, asking in confusion, "Is he your Husband? My mother said only close people can do that."
Staring down in surprise, she was about to retract her hand when Night Star instantly grasped it, leaving her no chance to escape.
"She is my wife; otherwise, she wouldn't be so worried about me. She stayed up all night yesterday to take care of me," he said in a low voice that sounded different from usual, causing her hand to freeze in place.
This was the first time she heard Night Star lie, and he did it so smoothly without even blushing!
Just as she wanted to deny it, his fierce gaze stopped her, as if saying that if she uttered another word now, he could make sure she would never speak again.
Lowering her head silently, she swallowed all her denials and could only obediently hold onto the man's arm without letting go until they entered the village.
After walking for about half an hour, Night Star began to sweat profusely. Mo Xier placed one hand on the man's pulse while calling out to Dog Egg ahead to stop and rest for a while.
Although the pulse was weak, it was still strong enough; they had been walking for such a long time that he must have gotten tired.
"Let's sit and rest for a bit; your injury isn't healed yet, so you can't overexert yourself."
Staring intently into her eyes, Night Star felt as if he had only been unconscious for one night; why did he feel like he didn't recognize the person in front of him?
"You can take pulses, stitch wounds, and handle herbs?" One question after another came from him, simple words filled with his doubts.
After she left in the morning, he carefully examined his wounds. Although the stitches were not very neat, they were quite orderly, and he even knew to use medicinal herbs instead of simply relying on the medicines picked up from the cart.
This clarity and calmness were nothing like the woman who spent her days in the manor, muddled and only knowing how to joke around, unable to move when there was something delicious to eat.
His deep-set eyes fell upon her, and Mo Xier couldn't help but shiver slightly, moving a bit farther away from him as she softly said, "Why are you looking at me like that? Didn't I tell you I know a little bit of medicine?"
Of course, her "little bit" completely concealed her true abilities; she had studied this in modern times. While she wouldn't say she was very skilled, being proficient was certainly not wrong.
"Is it really that simple?" he pressed on, his eagle-like gaze fixed tightly on her, making her feel quite uncomfortable.
Placing her right hand beside her head as if swearing an oath, she tried to make her eyes appear sincere. "I swear! Everything I said is the truth!"
However, the man slightly lowered his gaze, and they no longer made eye contact.
After resting for a moment, the three of them set off again. The woman's hand remained linked to his arm. Night Star called it a full performance, but to Mo Xier, it was merely an excuse to borrow a crutch for a moment!
Because along the way afterward, the man seemed to place all his weight on her; she was practically supporting him as they moved forward.
Fortunately, after walking for half an hour or so, they finally saw a neatly arranged village. At the entrance of the village stood several peach trees with green leaves. Just standing at the village entrance and glancing inside made her feel as if she could see the free life within.
"We're here! Up ahead is my village. Don't worry; everyone here is very hospitable; you won't be discriminated against!"
Due to being close to home, Dog Egg unconsciously quickened his pace. The thought of resting soon also made Mo Xier's steps much lighter. As soon as they entered the village, they attracted the attention of most people.
This village was already remote; apart from those living there, outsiders were rarely seen. It was normal for the villagers to feel curious.
Dog Egg walked proudly at the front as if having two good-looking people behind him was something remarkable.
"Dog Egg, who are those two behind you? I've never seen them before!" As more people gathered around, someone naturally stepped forward to ask.
An elderly woman who looked to be in her sixties blocked their path. Dressed in a simple gray cloth outfit and carrying a basket of eggs, she appeared very rustic.
"Aunt Liu, these are lost travelers I met in the mountains. One of them is injured, so I brought them back. My mother said we should help others."
Aunt Liu listened and slowly nodded, but her gaze was fixed on the two people behind her and could not look away.
In the middle of the village, they saw a very ordinary single-story house with only three rooms, but in front of it was a large yard filled with various fruits and vegetables, giving off a pastoral vibe.
As soon as they stepped into the yard, a woman in her forties came out to greet them, holding unfinished insoles in her hands. "Dog Egg, I heard you brought someone back?"
The village was indeed as Dog Egg had described—very small, where everyone knew each other. They had barely entered the village when someone had already informed Dog Egg's mother. Sure enough, she came out as soon as she heard the commotion.
Quickly stepping forward to support the woman, Dog Egg's eyes were full of joy as she pointed to them standing at the door and said, "Mom, those are the people I brought back. Aren't they as beautiful as fairies from the sky?"
"Ma'am, I’m really sorry. We got lost in the mountains and encountered bandits. If it weren't for Dog Egg, we wouldn't know how many days we would have spent in the mountains," Mo Xier said, adept at pleasing elders. She then released the man's hand and took a few steps forward to affectionately link arms with the woman. Her face wore a gentle smile, like the warm sun in the sky.
"This girl is truly beautiful!" Elders love sweet talk, and this statement was certainly true. With just a few calls of "ma'am," she won Dog Egg's mother's affection.
Pointing to the man still standing at the gate of the yard, she smiled and said, "He is my Husband. He got hurt a bit; if possible, I wonder if we could trouble you for a few more days?"
Upon hearing his name mentioned, Night Star suddenly froze. The woman had just declared in front of so many people that he was her Husband! How could she say that without feeling shy at all?
But somehow, in a corner of his heart that had been frozen for so long, her words seemed to bring some warmth.
