Facing Aunt Liu's scrutinizing gaze, Night Star stood straight, not even giving her a glance. 0

Seeing this, Mo Xier awkwardly turned her head and softly said, "Aunt Liu, I'm sorry. My man isn't very bright." As she spoke, she pointed to her own head, looking quite serious. 0

Instantly, the others looked at him with a hint of pity in their eyes. The distance between them wasn't far; although the woman's voice was soft, every word clearly reached his ears. 0

Night Star shot him a cold glance, while the culprit acted as if nothing was wrong and continued chatting happily with Aunt Liu. 0

"Little sister, since you've come, you're our guest. How could we not take you in? But my place is small, so it might be a bit cramped for you." 0

"It's okay, it's okay. I feel like I'm bothering you too much; I feel quite embarrassed," Mo Xier said with a shy smile on her face. 0

Aunt Liu took her arm and cheerfully said, "Don't be embarrassed! You both are quite good-looking. The more we see you, the better we might look too!" 0

This remark genuinely made her laugh. She affectionately linked arms with Aunt Liu and called out to Night Star to follow. 0

One must say that the villagers in this area were indeed hospitable. In just a short time, everyone brought over their own things, fearing they might neglect their guests. 0

This made her feel quite embarrassed; they were already intruding, yet people were so enthusiastic towards them. But it was precisely because of this that she deeply felt what it meant to have simple and honest folk customs. 0

After the lively gathering, it was best for Night Star to lie down and rest since his wounds needed time to heal. Aunt Liu's house wasn't large; there were only three rooms in total. 0

"You young couple can share one room; is that alright?" 0

She was about to suggest sharing a room with Aunt Liu when the man behind her spoke faster than she did. "Of course that's fine; thank you, Aunt Liu." 0

In one sentence, the issue of room ownership was settled; her gaze at the man was almost fiery! This man really knew when to speak and when not to! 0

After the four of them finished dinner, she helped Aunt Liu tidy up carefully before returning to her room. 0

Night Star lay on the bed like a lord, perfectly arranged as if assisted by an external force. She glanced at the man, then quietly walked over, picked up the bedding from the bed, and turned to leave, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed by the man. 0

"Where are you going?" His deep voice emerged, and she met his profound gaze. 0

Raising an eyebrow slightly, she replied nonchalantly, "To sleep on the floor." Her matter-of-fact demeanor made Night Star wonder who the real man was. 0

Before entering, she had already thought it through; they were not really a couple and naturally could not share a bed. Moreover, since he had been injured because of her, it was only right that he should sleep on the floor. 0

Sitting up, he took the bedding from her hands and placed it on the bed. Without saying a word, he demonstrated his attitude through action. 0

He picked up a pillow and threw it on the floor. The two actions were seamless and even showed a hint of charm. Staring at him in disbelief, she couldn't help but be startled, stuttering as she spoke, "What... what are you doing?" 0

He shot her a sidelong glance, unwilling to say a word, then lay down and turned away from the woman on the bed. 0

Mo Xier remained stunned for a long time before realizing that he meant for her to sleep in the bed while he took the floor! 0

Silently lying down and covering herself with the blanket, she couldn't help but turn to look at the man on the floor. In the dim light, his features were not clearly visible—just a blurred outline. 0

The fear she felt when they first met seemed to linger in her heart, but as they gradually interacted, she found that he was not as cold as to be frightening. 0

Cautiously approaching him again and again, she tightly gripped the blanket in her hands and bit her lip, unsure if she should say certain things. 0

"Get some sleep early," Night Star's low voice suddenly broke the silence of the room as he got up to extinguish the candle on the table. 0

In an instant, the room was plunged into darkness. Once her eyes adjusted, she turned around and found herself staring into the man's shining eyes. 0

Although there were no candles, the moonlight outside streamed in through the window. She couldn't see much else clearly, but those captivating eyes sparkled brightly. 0

"Are you cold?" Mo Xier spoke softly, covering her lips with the blanket, her voice muffled. 0

There was no response, so she continued, "Why don't you come over to my bed to sleep? It's not fair that you have to sleep on the floor because of my injury." 0

As she spoke, she shifted her position inward. Even in the darkness, she still dared not meet the man's gaze. 0

"Are you serious?" 0

His cold words made Mo Xier shrink back into the blanket, suddenly wanting to take back her invitation. 0

However, before she could react, Night Star's slightly cold body was already beside her. She could detect a suppressed amusement in his tone. "It's too late to change your mind; I've already come up and I'm not going back down." 0

"I didn't mean for you to go back down anyway," she muttered softly as she pressed herself further into the corner. 0

Whether in modern times or after her transmigration, she was still a Young Lady; she had never shared a bed with a man before. Naturally, she felt so nervous that she wished she could curl up into a ball and disappear! 0

Mo Xier, who dared not move at all, truly regretted her words at this moment. Why did she have to say something so foolish? 0

Slowly raising her gaze to examine the man beside her, she saw his hands neatly placed on his chest, his breathing steady and showing no signs of embarrassment. It was as if there was not a person lying next to her but merely a piece of wood. 0

After observing him for a long time without seeing him open his eyes, she reluctantly shifted her gaze away and softly said, "You really are like a piece of wood." 0

Such words naturally reached the man's ears without missing a beat. His torment was something Mo Xier could never understand. Having been used to sleeping alone since childhood, how could he adapt to having another person beside him now—especially a living woman? 0

The seemingly calm facade was all for show. Suddenly turning over and pressing a hand on the woman's arm, he whispered, "Why so much nonsense?" 0

Given their close proximity, whenever the man spoke even slightly, his faint breath brushed against her, making her ears tingle and causing her to laugh involuntarily as she desperately shrank deeper into the blanket. 0

"Hey, speak properly and don't get so close to me." 0

His hand gradually moved down, firmly wrapping around the woman's slender waist, exuding a unique masculine aura that pressed down on her. "Am I made of wood?" 0

The rapid development of the situation caught her off guard. Sensing the shift in his emotions, she quickly backed down. "No! I meant I'm the one who's made of wood!" 0

The woman beneath him was soft and delicate, her waist yielding as if he could break her with just a little force. This softness seemed to possess a kind of magic that made his hand want to move lower. 0

Suddenly, his hand was caught by the woman, and Mo Xier's voice trembled noticeably. "Night Star! Don't think that just because you saved me, I'll owe you my body! I'm a modest girl!" 0

A playful thought suddenly sprouted in the man's mind. He rolled over and pressed himself on top of her, his slightly calloused hands covering her tender cheeks. In an instant, the atmosphere in the room changed dramatically. 0

If Candlelight were present at that moment, they would surely see the woman's flushed cheeks and wandering gaze. 0

"I really have to thank you for this idea. Since that's the case, how about we repay it with flesh?" His cold words carried an almost imperceptible teasing tone. 0

"You... you can't! If you move again, I will scream that you're being inappropriate!" 0

"You told the villagers we are married; they mostly think it's just marital play." 0

Marital play?! This wooden man actually understood such things? At that moment, she regretted saying they were siblings; it would have been better than claiming they were married! 0

Gazing at the woman's embarrassment beneath him, Night Star felt a sense of relief in his heart. He chuckled lightly, then released her and rolled to the side, his voice calm and devoid of any emotion. "Aren't you tired?" 0

Suddenly released, she felt an emptiness inside, as if nothing could fill the void. She stood there in a daze, unable to regain her senses. 0

Turning her head blankly to look at the man beside her, she gently shook her head. It was only when she realized his gaze was not on her that she softly said, "I'm fine." 0

"Thank you." The simple two words reflected the man's personality, expressing gratitude in the simplest way, awkward yet somewhat endearing. 0

"I should be thanking you. Without you, I might have lost my life," she said, fiddling with the blanket in her hands, showing no concern. Suddenly pausing, her eyes widened, "You really have many enemies; so many people want to kill you." 0

"Do you really think they want to kill me?" Night Star turned his head and looked at her intently. It was precisely because of the darkness that he could be so bold, staring for a long time without looking away. 0

After careful consideration, Mo Xier slightly shook her head and softly replied, "It doesn't seem like it." 0

Due to being injured and fleeing, she hadn't had time to reflect on what had happened that day. Now that she had the time to think it over, it seemed that the people who came that day had their sights set on both of them. 0

"We are both their targets." Just this simple thought led her to the answer. 0

The man nodded in approval. "It was clear that their group was organized and purposeful in their assassination attempt; their goal was to make us disappear." 0

Mo Xier fell into a brief silence. She had only been here for about a month; who could she have such deep enmity with? 0

The first person that came to mind was Old Madam, but glancing at the man beside her made her swallow that thought. Old Madam and Night Star were mother and son; how could she possibly resort to such deadly means? 0
