All the people in the room were dismissed, and Rong Mama closed the door behind her as she left. Outside, the sun was already setting, and with the door shut, the light inside the room dimmed significantly.
“Following the Wind? That's a good name. How long have you been following your brother?” Instead of immediately allowing the person to rise, she asked softly.
“I was rescued by the Prime Minister from a human trafficker when I was six years old. Since then, I have been following the Prime Minister.” Following the Wind replied succinctly, just like his demeanor.
“In that case, I suppose I can trust you.” This statement was somewhat ambiguous, leaving one puzzled.
However, Following the Wind did not hesitate and immediately responded, “Of course.”
Satisfied, Jiang Yu nodded and signaled for him to rise. After he stood up, he kept his head bowed, behaving very decorously, his gaze fixed and not wandering.
Jiang Yu couldn't help but admire him inwardly; he truly was someone trained by his brother and was indeed different from others.
“I have a task for you. Do you have confidence in completing it well?” She subconsciously began to turn the prayer beads in her hand while her assessing gaze lingered on him.
“As long as it is your command, I will definitely do it well.” His confidence surprised Jiang Yu somewhat.
“I want you to find out where Night General is hiding in which village and which household is taking care of his injuries. If necessary, I hope that family will be destroyed!”
As she spoke these words, Jiang Yu's eyes filled with a fierce intensity, staring intently at the person before her.
Following the Wind seemed completely unfazed; not even a flicker of expression crossed his face as he continued to stand there with his head bowed.
“Now, do you still have that kind of confidence to accomplish this?” Her voice was exceptionally low, echoing like it came from hell. Anyone who knew of such a woman’s venomous heart would tremble.
A fleeting emotion crossed Following the Wind's face that Jiang Yu did not notice as he quietly replied, “As long as this is what you desire, I will do my utmost to fulfill your wishes!”
“Very well!” A satisfied look flashed in Jiang Yu's eyes. “In that case, go ahead and do it quickly!”
As her words fell, Following the Wind vanished from the room without a trace.
A gentle breeze blew in through the open door, softly stirring her long hair. The prayer beads in her hand continued to rotate, and she didn't know when this had become a habitual action.
After giving the order, her heart noticeably calmed down. Just thinking about Night Star's expression upon learning that his savior had been killed made her unable to suppress her smile!
She couldn't endanger his life, but causing harm to others and making him sad was still acceptable!
Two days later, on a bright sunny day, Madam Liu's carriage swayed along the road to White Horse Temple. At this moment, Madam Liu had no idea that she had already been plotted against.
In the General's residence, Old Madam finally stepped out of the courtyard after dressing up for an entire morning.
Unlike her usual heavy attire, today Old Madam wore a plain silk gown adorned with precious pearls in her hair. Although the decoration was simple, it subtly revealed an air of nobility.
Having discarded her previous heavy makeup, her current look was much more translucent. At just over forty years old and rarely dressed up like this, she immediately attracted the attention of many servants as soon as she stepped outside, truly captivating their eyes.
Madam Liu sat comfortably in the carriage with her three-year-old daughter beside her, chatting affectionately. Little did she know that disaster was about to strike. Suddenly, a group of masked individuals descended from above and blocked the carriage's path.
Startled, the horse reared up and began to thrash about wildly! Inside the carriage, Madam Liu was even more frightened; she quickly pulled her daughter into her arms and began to scream uncontrollably.
The road that had been bustling with people now saw everyone fleeing in panic due to the startled horse! All that could be heard were cries for help and shouts of alarm!
The Masked Assailants charged forward as if they were targeting Madam Liu. The Family Guards emerging from Liu Manor were no match for them.
After just a few exchanges, it was clear they were defeated. In the chaos, the once-crowded road quickly emptied out, leaving only Madam Liu's carriage isolated in the middle of the street.
One of the masked men seized the opportunity, yanked aside the curtain of the carriage, and pointed a sharp sword at those inside while loudly commanding, "Don't move! Otherwise, my sword won't spare you!"
"Big brother, we have no grievances or enmities; why are you doing this? If it's for money, I can give you all the money I have! I only ask that you spare our lives!"
Even though she tried to act unafraid, her trembling voice betrayed her. Madam Liu tightly held her daughter in her arms, tears already brimming in her eyes. She had only wanted to go to White Horse Temple to pray; how could she have anticipated such calamity?
The masked man chuckled lightly, seemingly dismissive. He pressed his sword closer and said, "If I wanted money, would I need to kidnap you?"
Madam Liu held her daughter tightly, her body stiff as she maintained a protective stance without moving an inch. "What do you want? No matter what it is, I can give it to you!"
The man laughed as if he had heard a joke, his words dripping with disdain. "I came here today to take the lives of you and your daughter! Don't blame me for being ruthless; blame your husband for being ungrateful! I can't find him, so I can only take my revenge on you, woman!"
With that, he raised his knife, the sharp tip poised above her pale neck. A scream pierced the air followed by a thud; the man suddenly collapsed to the ground! The sword that had been aimed at her neck fell to the ground with a clear "thud."
The incident happened so suddenly that Madam Liu had no time to react. By the time she opened her eyes to sense something was wrong, she saw the corpse lying before her.
A dagger had pierced through his abdomen with brutal force, the short blade having penetrated from his back to the front. The hilt of the dagger was already buried in his body while the tip protruded out from the front.
Blood gushed out rapidly, filling the air with a strong metallic scent. Madam Liu could wait no longer; she covered her daughter's eyes with her hand and nearly crawled out of the carriage.
This took almost all her strength. Leaning against the carriage, she looked around and saw nothing but the bodies of masked men—at least six of them! There were also the Family Guards from Liu Manor! The vivid red color made it hard for her to see clearly!
Just as she stepped down from the carriage, people surrounded her—strangers who seemed to be protecting her.
In the distance, unfamiliar Family Guards and masked men continued their struggle. At this point, she had no strength left to escape and could only lean against the carriage, pressing her hand tightly over her daughter's eyes to shield them from the horrific sight.
When the last masked man fell, her legs finally gave way and she collapsed onto the ground, too weak to stand. Trembling uncontrollably, she felt as though she had narrowly escaped death and clung tightly to her little girl.
Despite everything, she still softly comforted her daughter by whispering in her ear, "It's okay; Mama is here."
Suddenly, a pair of delicate hands appeared before her, adorned with exquisite white jade bracelets on slender wrists. The fair skin instantly captured all of Madam Liu's attention.
Following the wrist upward, she saw a simple yet elegant dress; even basic white pearls couldn't conceal the extraordinary grace of its wearer. It was none other than Jiang Yu!
"Are you alright?" With a warm smile and holding sandalwood prayer beads in her hand, Jiang Yu radiated warmth like jade.
Still somewhat dazed, Madam Liu shook her head in confusion. How had she suddenly encountered an enemy on this road? How had she been saved so unexpectedly?
"Get up; it's cold on the ground, and..." Jiang Yu's gaze shifted to the child in Madam Liu's arms. "Your precious daughter has been frightened; she needs comforting."
She reached out and stood up with her hand. Tears could not help but fall from Madam Liu's eyes as she softly said, "Thank you."
"Don't mention it. It's fate that we meet here today. If you don't mind, my carriage is just behind us. You can rest for a moment and help the child calm down," she said, pointing to the carriage behind her and gently comforting.
Madam Liu looked at the blood-soaked surroundings, thought for a moment, and then said, "Then I will trouble you, madam." She picked up the child and followed Jiang Yu towards her carriage, softly asking, "May I ask who you are, madam?"
"I am the mother of the Night General," she replied with a smile, her expression carrying a solemnity that was uncommon.
The name of the Night General was well-known throughout the Heavenly Universe Kingdom. Upon hearing that she was his mother, Madam Liu paused in her steps, a hint of surprise on her face. "So it is Lady Ye. Thank you for saving my life today."
"Our meeting is also fate. Since we have crossed paths, I could not stand by and do nothing. I merely did what I should have done," Old Madam understood human nature well; the more gratitude she received, the more she downplayed her actions, speaking with an air of detachment.
Madam Liu fell for it, expressing her gratitude sincerely. "I have long heard of your kindness; I never expected that seeing you today would be so much more than what outsiders say!"
Seemingly surprised, Jiang Yu slightly raised her tone. "I never thought outsiders spoke of me this way. I only wish to help my son accumulate blessings and hope he returns safely from the battlefield."
Everything she said was a fabrication; only she knew how much she truly despised Night Star!
"You are too modest. Today, thanks to your rescue, I will definitely come to express my gratitude in person another day!" Madam Liu said earnestly.
Jiang Yu patted her hand to soothe her and asked in a low voice, "But may I ask who has caused such trouble for you? Why would they threaten your lives?"
"To be honest, madam, I am the wife of Vice Minister of War Liu Qiankun. Today, while going to White Horse Temple to pray, I unexpectedly encountered this calamity on the way. It must be my husband's enemies," Madam Liu replied truthfully while adding her own speculation.
