"What are you? Who gave you the right to speak here?"
Qin Fan felt that Night Star showed him no respect in front of everyone! It made him furious and humiliated, and the looks from the ministers around him only added to his anger, as if they were all there to watch his embarrassment.
Seeing Mo Xier speak up for him, he felt no gratitude; instead, it felt like an insult. Without thinking, he shouted loudly, showing no regard for others' feelings.
When had she ever been scolded like this by a man? Even in the General's residence, where Old Madam despised her, she had never been treated this way!
She felt her body trembling uncontrollably, wanting to speak but choking on her words, her gaze flickering towards Qin Fan, filled with shock!
"She is the Imperial Physician I specifically appointed; what do you mean by that?" Night Star's words had not even left his mouth when the Emperor interjected.
As soon as he spoke, it shocked everyone!
Everyone knew that the Imperial Physician was a position in the palace, but historically, it had always been held by men. When had they ever seen a woman in such a role? Women were supposed to stay at home and raise children; how could they hold official positions? It was simply ridiculous!
Mo Xier looked up in astonishment. What was happening today? Surprising events kept unfolding one after another. She knew the Emperor was helping her, but was it really appropriate to say such things so casually?
Qin Fan stood frozen in place, his anger clearly visible on his face as he looked at the woman with even more shock.
"Your Majesty! You must think this through! How can you allow a woman to be the Imperial Physician in the palace? It goes against reason!" He kept trying to persuade the Emperor, hoping to change his mind.
"Against reason?" The Emperor's tone rose slightly, carrying the natural pressure of a ruler. "Can you treat the Plague?"
The question came unexpectedly, and Qin Fan was momentarily stunned, shaking his head. He was just a Minister of Rites, not a doctor; how could he possibly treat the Plague?
Pointing at the woman standing behind Night Star, Li Ye's gaze was exceptionally gentle as he spoke firmly, "She can treat the Plague. Do you think it's excessive for me to appoint a woman who can cure such a disease as the Imperial Physician?"
It seemed to be a request for opinions, but those with clear eyes could already see that even the Emperor was somewhat angry.
Qin Fan furrowed his brows tightly, not only surprised that a woman could treat the Plague, but also feeling that the Emperor was biased towards her! He remained silent.
"Are you saying that I must seek your opinion on whom to appoint? Otherwise, how about letting you be the Emperor?" A light remark exploded like thunder among the ministers!
Qin Fan was so terrified that he immediately knelt down and exclaimed, "Your Majesty, it is my foolishness! You are the Sovereign! Naturally, it is all up to you! Please forgive me, Your Majesty!"
At the moment he knelt, all the ministers followed suit, their movements so synchronized that Mo Xier, witnessing it for the first time, was somewhat astonished.
She knelt behind Night Star, but her impression of the Emperor rose a level. If she couldn't see such obvious favoritism, then she might as well die!
"Forgiveness? For what crime? Are you not questioning me?"
"It is my foolishness! I... I drank too much, yes! That's it, I was drunk!"
"Drunk?" The Emperor continued to press on, his rising tone making Qin Fan's heart sink. "Being drunk gives you the right to speak so recklessly? How can you treat a woman with such a lack of grace? How can you serve as Minister of Rites?"
At this moment, Qin Fan's heart felt like it had been struck by lightning. He never expected that in trying to tease Mo Xier and make Night Star uncomfortable, he would provoke such a disaster!
"Your Majesty, since Lord Qin has acknowledged his mistake and it was due to his drunkenness, perhaps Your Majesty could punish him by forbidding him from drinking in the future."
Night Star suddenly spoke up from her kneeling position to plead for him. Just as she wondered why she had suddenly interceded for him, she met Qin Fan's cold gaze.
In that instant, she understood the meaning in his eyes; this Qin Fan would likely have a hard time in the days to come!
But she merely lowered her head and did not speak. She was not a saint or a white lotus; she could not forgive others unconditionally after being humiliated. In her dictionary, if someone did not offend her, she would not offend them; if someone offended her, she would repay them tenfold!
Indeed, after hearing this suggestion, the Emperor's eyes lit up, and he nodded in appreciation, saying, "The idea of the Night General is quite good; it resonates with me!"
"Your Majesty, please forgive me! I assure you I will not make the same mistake again!" The repeated assurances were of no use.
"Lord Qin, the best way to avoid future mistakes is to cut off the problem at its root!" After saying this, the Emperor turned around and called out to Little Li, "Convey my words: from now on, under no circumstances is Lord Qin allowed to drink. Anyone who disobeys will be dismissed and investigated!"
"But what if Lord Qin drinks on his own?" Night Star asked coldly, her lips slightly parted.
"That would also count as disobedience! He can only stay in prison for a few days!" The Emperor's dark eyes looked at Qin Fan, who was kneeling on the ground, with no hint of jest in his tone.
No one expected that the Night General's seemingly joking words would be taken seriously by the Emperor as a punishment!
This punishment seemed minor, but for the alcohol-loving Qin Fan, it was a severe consequence! It was truly a nasty method that only Night Star could come up with.
"Alright, everyone get up; there's no need to kneel." After saying this, he took a few steps forward and reached out to help the woman up, his face filled with concern. "Are you alright? Were you frightened? This rough man is like this; you need not be afraid."
She wanted to retract her hand but found it firmly held in his grip, leaving her no chance to pull away. She could only shake her head slightly. The Emperor's gaze upon her was genuinely intense, making her feel somewhat scared.
But given the situation, she could only brace herself and replied, "Your Majesty, rest assured; my courage is not so small."
"Still calling yourself Commoner? Did you not hear what I just said? You are now an Imperial Physician and should not use that title anymore."
"I understand," she replied nervously, meeting his smiling gaze.
With Qin Fan being punished, the atmosphere of the banquet instantly became somewhat strange; the attention that had been focused on them suddenly diminished significantly.
It wasn't until the Emperor returned to his original position that she let out a sigh of relief. Her previously tense emotions relaxed instantly as she leaned weakly against Night Star.
He reached out and wrapped his arm around Mo Xier's slender waist, giving her a sense of strength that calmed her considerably.
Tilting her head slightly, she asked softly, "Your Majesty was just joking when you made me the Imperial Physician, right?"
"When have you ever seen the Emperor joke?" the man replied seriously.
Her eyes widened suddenly, and she said anxiously, "You can't really expect me to come to the palace every day, can you? Besides, when has a woman ever held an official position?"
"Why can't a woman hold an official position?"
Night Star's assertiveness left her momentarily speechless. After all, she had crossed over from the modern world and wasn't opposed to women in power; rather, she lacked confidence in her own hair!
Who knew if her hair would suddenly turn white? Back in the General's residence, she could cover it up, but what would she do if it turned white in front of everyone?
Propping her chin with one hand, she instinctively spun the plate on the table with her fingers and said softly, "I don't mind, but don't you think it's not good for me to be frequently in the spotlight?"
Looking at his hair, Night Star instantly understood her meaning. The next moment, his expression turned serious. Her concerns were not without reason, but since the Emperor had already spoken, how could he go back on his word?
As the banquet gradually progressed to its peak, Qin Fan's gloomy mood from being punished began to dissipate. With the entrance of the Exotic Dancer, the atmosphere soared to new heights!
Staring in astonishment at the woman who looked distinctly different from those in the capital, she turned her head and asked softly, "Where did these dancers come from? Are they from foreign lands?"
These dancers were not just blonde-haired and blue-eyed; their features were deep-set and three-dimensional, and they were taller than the women of the capital.
Dressed in a manner that was quite revealing for ancient times, there seemed to be hardly any fabric covering their bodies. Above their ankles were bells that jingled as they danced, harmonizing with the music in an intriguing way.
Night Star reached out to offer her some food and nodded lightly. "They were sent by foreign envoys. The Emperor kept them because he found them somewhat attractive."
"She really looks like a Russian," Mo Xier marveled, unable to help but say it out loud.
Although his voice was soft, she heard him clearly and couldn't help but ask back, "Russian? Where is that?"
"Ah? It's nothing, I just said it casually. Where are they from?"
"The Demon Country, located at the distant western border. It has some trade relations with the Heavenly Universe Kingdom, and these Dancers were sent over during that time."
Raising her eyebrows slightly and nodding, she glanced at them a couple of times before lowering her head to focus on the food in her hands. For her, these foreign women were not as appealing as what she was eating.
After watching her intently for a while, he suddenly asked, "Aren't you even a little curious about these women?"
"Are you?" The woman suddenly looked up, her eyes shining brightly.
Night Star shook his head and continued to pick food for her, remaining unfazed.
"A big man like you isn't interested; why should I, as a woman, be interested in the same gender?" Her assertive words did not anger him; instead, he chuckled. This woman spoke without reservation, yet every word made sense.
In the banquet hall, they seemed somewhat out of place. The woman kept eating bite after bite while he continuously selected food to place on her plate.
Suddenly, several loud cheers erupted in the hall, drawing their attention. Unbeknownst to them, the Dancers had begun to move toward the guests in rhythm with the music!
