"Miss, this isn't quite right, is it?" Cui Er still wanted to retreat, pulling her hand back. However, how could Cui Er stop her footsteps? In the next moment, she had already stepped forward.
A gentle smile returned to her face as she casually approached the young servant guarding the door. Before she got close, someone shouted loudly, "Who goes there!"
"Brother, I'm sorry, I got lost and don't know where this place is." With innocent big eyes and tearful gaze, she appeared exceptionally pitiful.
Seeing such eyes, who could bear to speak harshly? "May I ask who the young lady is? Are you perhaps here to attend the banquet at the residence?"
"I am Miss Liu from Yancheng." Her gentle voice completely diminished any sense of threat.
Upon hearing that it was Liu Xuxin, the young servant could think of nothing else. Who in the General's residence didn't know that Miss Liu might become the future General's Wife?
It was already unfortunate that they had no chance to attend the banquet; now encountering Miss Liu was indeed a stroke of good luck!
"Ah, so it's Miss Liu. I apologize for my rudeness." The young servant bowed respectfully, his face filled with a flattering smile.
"It's nothing. May I ask who resides in this courtyard? Why are there so many guards watching over it?"
Faced with her curious eyes, the young servant hesitated. The Miss Mo in the courtyard was previously favored by the young master; how could they answer when Miss Liu asked about her?
Stammering and unable to articulate clearly, he instinctively took a step back, a clear sign of evasion.
"Can't you tell me?"
"In response to Miss Liu, it's not like that; it's just that the people in this courtyard..." The young servant lowered his gaze, unwilling to explain further, which only made her more curious!
"Can't say? Then don't say anything. Just let me in to take a look." With that, she prepared to step inside.
The young servant at the entrance was momentarily taken aback, and by the time he regained his senses, the woman was almost at the door.
How could the servant allow her to stride into the courtyard? He quickly reached out to block her path, running ahead of her with a smile and saying, "Miss, this place cannot be entered casually. Why not choose another location?"
Upon hearing this, her expression instantly darkened, and the previous smile vanished from her face. "Am I not allowed to enter?"
"It's not just you; even if Old Madam were here, we would still need to report to the Young Master before knowing if we can let anyone in," the servant said, his face showing fear as he worried that one wrong word might offend someone important.
Sure enough, Liu Xuxin's expression grew even more unpleasant. She lightly coughed and turned to face Cui Er behind her, giving her a knowing glance. After being by her side for so long, Cui Er understood her meaning perfectly.
Cui Er immediately stepped forward and pushed against the young servant, her expression unfriendly as she said, "You don't seem completely unreasonable. Since you know who our Miss is, how dare you block her?"
"Cui Er, what are you saying? If they refuse to let us in, we can always come back with Xingchen," she said, showing intimacy with the man by only using his last two words. With her back turned to everyone, no one could see the expression on her face at that moment.
"You ignorant fools! Just wait until our Miss becomes General's Wife; then you'll see how we deal with you!" she threatened fiercely while glaring at the young servant.
The young servant had never encountered such a confrontation before and was instantly dumbfounded. With masters on both sides, he knew he couldn't offend either party; what was he to do?
Cui Er was particularly adept at reading expressions. Seeing that the young servant's face had changed, she refused to let it go.
She stepped forward again, pushing him back against the wall at the entrance of the courtyard and said sternly, "If you have any sense, open this gate and let our Miss in. She will only take a look around and then come right back out."
Grabbing hold of his collar, she continued fiercely, "No one will know about today’s events. Our Miss won't mention it to anyone outside. If you satisfy our Miss today and do a good deed, she will certainly remember you when she becomes General's Wife in the future; there will be benefits for you!"
Her threats and temptations forced the young servant to retreat further, his face filled with terror, yet he still refused to relent.
"Miss, you are magnanimous; please spare me! Otherwise, as Miss Liu said, I will have to call Night General along next time. At that point, I will definitely open this gate for you! I absolutely won’t obstruct you!"
The determined look on her face made Cui Er jump in anger; she had never seen such an unreasonable little brat! Furious, she kicked him hard, sending the little brat tumbling to the ground, crying out in pain.
"You clueless thing! My lady is discussing this with you out of kindness! Do you really think too highly of yourself?" She kicked him again for good measure, feeling satisfied before returning to Liu Xuxin's side.
"Cui Er, how can you be so rude! After all, he is from the General's residence; even when hitting a dog, one must consider its owner!"
The woman’s face was filled with terror, as if she had been greatly frightened. In her words, however, she belittled the little brat even further, comparing him to a dog belonging to a man.
But if someone were to look closely, they would see a flash of ruthlessness in the woman's eyes, showing no sympathy for the little brat lying on the ground.
"Miss, this is what he deserves! Who told him to look down on you?" With the support of the woman, Cui Er spoke without restraint, hurling insults like beans spilling from a bag.
The other little brats guarding the door could hardly tolerate this insult!
"This young lady, don't forget that we are servants; you are just a servant to Miss Liu as well!" A tall little brat could no longer hold back his anger. He helped the fallen one up and spoke softly.
His voice was quiet but every word was exceptionally clear, reaching the ears of everyone present without obstruction.
Cui Er had grown accustomed to being overbearing in Liu Manor because of Liu Xuxin; she only knew how to exclude others and had never experienced being belittled herself! Her eyes immediately reflected a fierce glare as if she wanted to swallow the speaking little brat whole.
"You blind fool! Who do you think you are to speak to me? You're just a guard dog at the door! How dare you bark in front of me?"
Cui Er wanted to continue but was stopped by the woman behind her who grabbed her wrist and gave her a look. She instantly fell silent and snorted coldly, "If it weren't for my lady telling me not to argue with you today, just wait and see how I deal with this mess!"
Liu Xuxin knew today was not the time for trouble. Besides, she had only been here for a few days and was merely supported by Old Madam. As they say, a gentleman takes revenge ten years later; once she truly becomes the General's Wife, she would see how to handle these people!
"Since we cannot enter, then we won't force it today. I apologize for the disturbance," she said gently with a smile as she turned to leave with Cui Er.
A questioning voice suddenly came from behind, "Who is making such a noise at the door?" Xinrong slowly stepped out of the room and saw the two people at the entrance, as well as the young servant still lying on the ground.
With her brows slightly furrowed, she couldn't help but instruct, "Get up off the ground quickly. What kind of behavior is this? Don't you know the young lady is trying to sleep? Making such a racket, if she gets angry, can you bear the consequences?"
The young servant, feeling quite wronged, replied softly, "This isn't our fault! If it weren't for Miss Liu insisting on coming in, we wouldn't have argued and made such a noise!"
The young servant instinctively tried to shift the blame. The master and servant duo nearby heard everything clearly; how could they allow a servant to speak like that?
Liu Xuxin immediately turned back with Cui Er, her smile still on her face, but inwardly she was cursing Xinrong fiercely. "I apologize for disturbing you; I just wanted to know who lives in this courtyard."
Although Xinrong didn't know who this person was, hearing the young servant refer to her as Miss Liu gave her some understanding. She respectfully returned the greeting and smiled, "Miss Liu, it should be banquet time now. May I ask why Miss Liu is here?"
"I was merely attracted by the tranquility here and came to take a look."
"Since that's the case, please return to the banquet quickly; this is not a place you should be." Although Xinrong was timid, her thoughts were clear, and what she said was quite reasonable.
Having already been turned away once, Liu Xuxin did not expect to be denied entry again. Anger welled up inside her, yet her smile grew even wider, making others shiver. "In that case..."
However, before she could finish her sentence, a woman's voice called from inside the room, "Xinrong? Who is making such a noise outside?"
Mo Xier had not been asleep; the commotion outside had long reached her ears. She had been enduring it quietly until now.
Thinking it would quiet down soon, she was surprised that it continued for so long. With her maid not returning for quite a while, she felt anxious and called out loudly.
Upon hearing the woman's voice from inside, Liu Xuxin's expression darkened significantly! Night Star had hidden a woman so well; what was their relationship?!
"In response to the young lady's inquiry, it is Miss Liu outside who wishes to enter the courtyard but has been stopped by the young servant," Xinrong turned around and reported loudly to the room.
The room fell silent for a moment before the woman's voice rang out again, "In that case, let her in. A guest has arrived; how could I not entertain her?"
The servant was taken aback. Although the young master had strictly forbidden outsiders from entering, the mistress inside was now allowing it. Should they let her in or not?
Just as they were caught in a dilemma, the gentle female voice spoke once more, "Don't worry. If Night General asks, just say it was my order."
With such a promise, the young servant's expression improved slightly, and he respectfully stepped aside.
"In that case, Miss Liu, please come inside. Let me take you to see the young lady," Xinrong said slowly while bowing, then stood up and gestured for her to enter.
Liu Xuxin had intended to leave but was deterred by the woman's voice. Gently supporting Cui Er's hand, she smiled brightly while her heart raced with curiosity. She wanted to see what kind of woman could be hidden away by a man like this!
Without hesitation, she replied, "In that case, I will comply."
The distance from the courtyard gate to the room was not far. As soon as she entered, a faint fragrance immediately captivated her. Raising her gaze, she saw a woman sitting gracefully by the bed.
Dressed in white garments, her hair flowed freely behind her without a hint of disarray, adding an alluring quality under the dim Candlelight.
Her fair face bore no makeup and appeared as if she had just woken from sleep; her eyes were still hazy but revealed a pallor that was unmistakable.
A thin blanket covered her wrists, and the way it barely concealed them was particularly enticing, making one want to explore further.
