Thinking of the unjustly dead Dog Egg and his mother, Mo Xier unconsciously tightened her hands at her sides, her meticulously manicured nails digging deeply into her palms. The pain was nothing compared to the hurt in her heart. 0

On the surface, she appeared unaffected, but the incident with Dog Egg had dealt her a significant blow, leaving her fearful of interacting with others. She couldn't dare to open her heart to anyone; who knew what might happen in the next moment? 0

Rather than getting close to others and putting them in danger, it was better to build a wall around herself, keeping everyone outside. She would avoid contact and friendships, using all her strength to protect others. Perhaps that was for the best. 0

When Xinrong entered, she saw Mo Xier's somewhat lonely expression and stepped forward, softly calling out, "Miss, are you alright? I just saw the young master leave in a fit of anger. Did you upset him again?" 0

Not receiving an expected response, Mo Xier's demeanor remained distant, her eyes devoid of focus as if she were staring blankly at something. 0

Seeing her like this, Xinrong felt uncertain and could only silently tidy up the items on the table while occasionally glancing at her from the corner of her eye. 0

However, even as she nearly finished clearing the table, Mo Xier still showed no reaction, merely gazing vacantly. 0

Finally unable to hold back any longer, Xinrong reached out and gently pushed Mo Xier's shoulder, raising her voice slightly. "Miss, should I call for a doctor? Why are you so lost in thought? Are you feeling unwell?" 0

Only then did Mo Xier seem to come back to herself. She stared blankly at Xinrong for a while before her previously vacant eyes finally regained some light. She shook her head slightly and said softly, "I'm fine; I was just thinking about something. I'm not unwell; there's no need for such alarm." 0

"Miss, did you have another argument with the young master? When I saw him leave just now, he didn't seem very happy," Xinrong asked tentatively, seemingly afraid of upsetting her. 0

Seeing Xinrong's cautious demeanor made Mo Xier smile as she shook her head. "The young master and I simply aren't compatible; we're not meant to be together. When have you ever seen him leave in high spirits?" 0

Xinrong tilted her head and thought for a moment; indeed, she had never seen that! Every time they argued or ended in a cold war, it never seemed to resolve easily. Yet despite this, Xinrong still felt deep down that they were quite suited for each other. 0

After all, it's said that enemies are often drawn together; perhaps the young master and Miss Mo are just playful rivals. 0

"But miss, I can see that the young master treats you differently than others." 0

"Really?" She raised an eyebrow, her tone filled with doubt. She hadn't noticed any difference in how Night Star treated her; his kindness seemed merely a means to use her to drive away the woman he disliked. 0

She could guarantee that once that woman left, she would no longer matter to him. 0

Moreover, the sudden appearance of the white hair on her head was quite rare in this world. Given these two points, it was hardly surprising that Night Star might want to keep her around. 0

However, such reasons were not something she could casually share with others; she could only silently ponder them in her heart. 0

Every time Xinrong mentioned that she was special to men, it felt particularly mocking to her. What was so special? It was merely that they saw her as having some value for their own purposes. 0

Mo Xier firmly believed that if those qualities belonged to Liu Xuxin, then Liu Xuxin would also be special to men. It was just her luck that those qualities happened to be in her. 0

Suddenly remembering something, Mo Xier's gaze shifted to Xinrong's empty hands. She abruptly stood up and asked, "Didn't you say there was something in the kitchen? Where is it?" 0

Xinrong, still caught up in the previous topic, stared blankly at her and stammered, "Huh? What did you say, miss?" 0

"The food!" As she spoke, she made a gesture as if eating, her eyes filled with hope and longing. 0

Xinrong quickly snapped back to reality, looking helpless. Anyone could tell that this was just an excuse for her to go out; how could it be taken seriously? 0

But facing her eager gaze, Xinrong couldn't help but feel speechless. 0

"Miss, there is no food left in the kitchen. I only said that as an excuse to go out," Xinrong continued tidying up, a look of resignation on her face. 0

With a disappointed sigh, she turned her back to Xinrong, looking somewhat angry, and softly said, "I knew you were all just teasing me!" 0

After tidying up everything, Xinrong walked in front of her and gently said, "How about this? Since you enjoy eating so much, I will ask the kitchen to prepare a few more dishes for dinner. What do you think?" 0

The tone of negotiation made Mo Xier's eyes light up instantly, as if the only thing that could capture her attention now was delicious food. 0

"You have to keep your promise tonight!" 0

"Of course, when have I ever lied to you?" Xinrong slowly smiled and asked in return. 0

Mo Xier huffed lightly, clearly unwilling, "Weren't you just teasing me earlier?" 0

"Can that really be compared?" 0

"Of course it can! Didn't those words come out of your mouth? You didn't follow through before, so that was lying to me!" The woman spoke with conviction, which was quite amusing. 0

But in front of her, Xinrong couldn't really laugh out loud; it was too hard to hold back. 0

"Alright, alright, it was my fault earlier. From now on, I will definitely do what I say! I will never deceive you again." 0

Seeing her expression, Xinrong thought for a moment and continued, "In the future, I won't use food to tease you anymore." 0

After seriously observing Xinrong for a while, Mo Xier could tell she had been holding back laughter for a long time. Finally, she waved her hand at her and stopped making things difficult. "Once you're done here, you can go down first. I’m not used to having someone in the room. If you're really worried, just wait at the door like before." 0

"Yes, then I will wait at the door. This way, if you need anything, I can hear you right away." Xinrong respectfully bowed and then intended to leave the room. 0

However, before Step could step out the door, she suddenly turned around, her bright eyes looking at the woman with a puzzled tilt of her head as she softly asked, "Miss, you haven't taken your medicine today, have you? I'll bring it over for you shortly." 0

The woman's previously relaxed expression instantly transformed into one of distress, her face contorting slightly as she bitterly replied, "I just took Lunch, can't we wait until I rest a bit before discussing the medicine?" 0

Since her face was injured, Xinrong had been assisting her with her medicine for two days. However, each time she took the medicine felt like a matter of life and death. If it weren't for Xinrong's constant coaxing and watchful eye, she wouldn't know where the medicine would end up. 0

Today was no different; the mention of taking medicine made the woman's expression extremely unpleasant. 0

Xinrong paid no mind to this and turned to the kitchen, bringing over the medicinal soup that had been kept warm on the stove and placing it in front of the woman. 0

In an instant, the room was filled with a strong herbal scent that made Mo Xier furrow her brows; it was truly unpleasant. It was strange that she, being a doctor herself, couldn't stand the smell of traditional Chinese medicine. 0

Along with the herbal soup came a plate of what looked like exceptionally delicious Osmanthus Cake, freshly steamed and still giving off faint steam. The rising heat mingled the sweet aroma with the herbal scent, creating an oddly peculiar smell. 0

Sniffing her nose, the woman wore a look of disdain; her good mood upon seeing the Osmanthus Cake had been completely overshadowed by the smell of the medicine. 0

"Miss, today I prepared your favorite Osmanthus Cake. Does that make the medicine taste any better?" 0

Standing across from her with a bright smile, Xinrong resembled a teacher supervising her student to ensure they completed their homework on time. 0

"Not at all!" Without any hesitation, Mo Xier replied directly. 0

Such an answer left Xinrong speechless; this Miss Mo truly never held back in her words, making it hard for others to accept. 0

"Miss, please drink it quickly. If this soup cools down, it will be a thousand times worse than it is now!" Xinrong said in a slightly threatening tone, hoping to persuade the woman to finish her medicine quickly. 0

The hand holding the bowl trembled slightly, and Mo Xier felt an inexplicable turmoil in her heart. How did it come to this? Why did she have to drink this medicine? 0

Taking a deep breath, she tightly closed her eyes, pretending that what she was holding was not a medicinal soup. She held her breath and only heard the sound of gulping as she finished the entire bowl. 0

Seeing that there was only a little left in the bowl, she quickly put it down, swallowed the last mouthful, and grabbed the Osmanthus Cake beside her, devouring it hungrily. Xinrong, watching from the side, couldn't help but worry and patted her back repeatedly, softly scolding, "Miss, can't you drink slowly? I've never seen anyone drink medicine like you do." 0

With food still in her mouth, Mo Xier couldn't speak properly and just waved her hand repeatedly. Once she had swallowed everything, she slowly replied, "How can it be the same? Others drink medicine to cure their illnesses; I drink medicine to save my life!" 0

Xinrong couldn't help but chuckle softly. 0

Soon, a whole plate of Osmanthus Cake was gone into Mo Xier's stomach. The sweet flavor finally masked the bitterness of the herbal medicine, bringing a hint of sweetness that made her feel revitalized. 0

Licking her lips in lingering desire, she looked at the empty bowl with reluctance. Xinrong could easily see through her thoughts. 0

She quickly took the bowl from the table and smiled, saying, "Miss, I advise you not to think about it anymore. Dr. Li has instructed that you can only eat this much in a day; otherwise, it won't be good for your wound healing. You need to hold on for your face." 0

Since she started drinking the medicine, Mo Xier had already heard this sentence no less than five times! Although she knew this would be the outcome, disappointment still showed on her face as she slumped over the table. 0

Resting her chin on her clasped hands, she said regretfully, "If I had known earlier, I would have eaten slowly. I didn't even taste what it was!" Her heavy lamentation made her look pitiful, which brought a smile to Xinrong's face. 0

"Miss, this Osmanthus Cake is not your first time eating it. Can't you tell what it tastes like by now?" 0

Slowly raising her gaze to glance at Xinrong, Mo Xier pouted like a child in kindergarten and said with grievance, "But every day feels different!" 0
