Mo Chou glanced at him but did not speak.
"Arrange for someone to control the Empress Dowager," Li Ye's voice echoed after a long pause. "It's also time to settle things with Night Star."
Being poisoned was one thing; he did not believe that Night Star would truly have no way to deal with the poison. Moreover, Mo Chou had just mentioned that there was an antidote. In that fleeting moment, the image of Mo Xier suddenly flashed through his mind, and he abruptly decided that Night Star had to die before him for him to feel at ease.
"Understood." Mo Chou simply acknowledged and vanished from the Imperial Study, leaving Li Ye standing alone by the window, lost in thought.
Mo Xier was deeply engrossed in researching the antidote. After such a long time, she was still missing one crucial ingredient and felt restless, unsure of what it could be.
The red door opened, and a woman slowly walked in. Willow Brows were clear and bright, her eyes small and delicate. Her complexion was cool, just like her personality. Dressed in a light blue long dress that complemented her tall and slender figure, she appeared refreshing after shedding her black attire.
As Zhuque entered, she saw Mo Xier standing by the window in a daze. She approached and said softly, "Miss, Jiang Wei is looking for you."
Mo Xier turned around, her brows furrowed slightly with displeasure. "What is it?"
"He said he wants to bid you farewell," Zhuque replied calmly.
Mo Xier was taken aback and asked in confusion, "He is leaving?"
A sense of guilt rose within her at this thought. They had already acknowledged each other, but since that day, Mo Xier had locked herself in her room to focus on developing the antidote and had not cared for him since.
She knew Jiang Wei would surely leave but did not expect it to come so soon, leaving her somewhat overwhelmed.
Seeing the expression on the woman's face, Zhuque smiled faintly. It seemed that because she rarely smiled before, this smile appeared somewhat stiff. "Yes, he has already prepared everything and is just waiting to say goodbye to you before setting off."
"Why didn't you say so earlier?" Upon hearing Zhuque's words, Mo Xier lifted her skirt and ran off, leaving Zhuque stunned in place.
Zhuque's lips twitched helplessly as she thought to herself, "Could you at least give me some time to speak?"
When Mo Xier arrived outside the residence, Jiang Wei and his group were already waiting there. Upon seeing her, smiles instantly appeared on their faces, and he gently said to her, "You finally came out; I thought you might never want to see me again."
Once Mo Xier steadied herself, she could clearly see Jiang Wei. He was dressed in white, standing under the sunlight, still holding that Folding Fan in his hand, his expression as warm as when they first met.
Ajin had changed into male attire. Mo Xier thought it was probably due to the inconvenience of traveling. The old man and Afu had always been dressed in gray since she first saw them and had never changed.
Night Star, looking weak, was supported by Qinglong. Her face was pale, and after taking Night Star from Qinglong's hands, she slowly looked at Jiang Wei and said, "Brother, you know I have been dealing with some issues lately."
Yes, he knew. Mo Xier had been troubled by the poison affecting Night Star. He wanted to help her but felt powerless, only able to watch her torment herself day and night; her little face had become completely gaunt.
Shaking his head, he helplessly said, "Yes, I know, so I do not blame you."
"Why doesn't brother stay a little longer before leaving? Is there something urgent?" Mo Xier looked at the luggage in their hands with a disappointed expression.
Gently ruffling her black hair, he affectionately said, "I should have left long ago; I just hadn't found you until now. Since you are here, I must return; there are still matters to attend to in the palace."
Prince An's people were watching closely; most of the officials had already become his supporters. The situation for the Emperor and Empress Dowager was extremely dangerous. If he didn't hurry back, it seemed that Penglai Nation would face a great war.
He then narrowed his eyes; this great war could not be avoided.
Seeing him say this, Mo Xier felt it inappropriate to insist on keeping him and could only say, "In that case, brother take care on your journey. When I have time, I will come to Penglai to see you."
Jiang Wei couldn't help but chuckle: "You little girl, do you even know how to get to Penglai Nation if you want to visit us?"
At Jiang Wei's words, Mo Xier suddenly remembered that Penglai Nation was located by the sea; its terrain was unpredictable. She was unfamiliar with the area and feared she might get lost at sea if she went.
With an awkward smile, she said, "Then will you come to pick me up when the time comes?"
Jiang Wei smiled helplessly and pulled out a black token made of Dark Iron from his pocket. It prominently bore a symbol resembling a 'W'. He handed the token to Mo Xier and slowly said, "This is my token. Anyone from Penglai Nation will treat it as if they are seeing me. Now that I am giving this token to you, if you wish to come, walk about a thousand meters past Gaochang towards the sea and show this token; someone will naturally take you into the palace."
Taking the token from Jiang Wei's hand, she felt its weight; she initially thought it was wooden but realized from its material that it must be high-quality Dark Iron. Her heart immediately soared with excitement.
Previously, I had only seen tokens like this on television, but seeing them in person today felt completely different. I tilted my head and glanced at Night Star, slowly asking, "Do you have a token?"
It seemed that I had never seen Night Star display a token here; I thought that people in this world didn't have such things. Yet, to my surprise, Jiang Wei actually had one.
"Of course I do." Although he didn't understand why Mo Xier suddenly asked, he still responded to her.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at Night Star. If he had one, why had he never taken it out? Night Star was confused by Mo Xier's glare, not knowing what had upset her this time.
Ignoring Night Star, Mo Xier looked at Jiang Wei and said, "Alright, as long as we finish our business, I will definitely come to see you."
Before Jiang Wei could respond, Ajin suddenly grabbed Mo Xier's hand, her crystal-clear eyes glistening with tears. "Mo Xi'er, thank you."
At that moment, all her unspoken words condensed into those few words. She knew she owed Mo Xi'er too much and could never repay it.
Smiling at her, Mo Xier said gently, "Take good care of my brother in the future."
This was whispered in Ajin's ear, so Jiang Wei and the others didn't hear it. They only saw Mo Xier lean in to say something to Ajin, and a strange expression flashed across Ajin's face. Jiang Wei felt puzzled but didn't ask.
If I were to describe my feelings towards Ajin before, it would have been hatred. The way she treated me was unforgivable; if it weren't for my luck, I might have regretted some things deeply. However, later on, all the hatred I felt towards her completely vanished.
Everyone deserves a chance to be forgiven, and Mo Xier was willing to give her that opportunity. Ajin wasn't inherently bad; if she could treat my brother well, she would surely find happiness.
Perhaps having witnessed too many tragedies in the past—loving someone but not being able to be together—she couldn't accept it. She believed that love is love; if you love someone, you should be together.
As for Jiang Wei, he was solely focused on finding his sister and overlooked the good qualities of the woman beside him. But one day, when this woman no longer interacted with him as a sister, there would surely be a different kind of feeling between them.
Ajin looked at her with gratitude and said, "I definitely will."
What once was hatred towards this woman had now turned into gratitude. She appreciated how understanding Mo Xier was, how she understood her feelings, and how she helped connect her with others.
In short, she felt immensely grateful!
Jiang Wei and his companions gradually walked away under the gazes of Mo Xier and Night Star. When their figures were completely out of sight, Mo Xier turned around and sighed slowly. How long would it be until they met again?
After sending Night Star into the room, Mo Xier began to walk slowly with Zhuque under the night sky.
After several days of cold weather, the temperature had gradually risen. Standing in the courtyard at this moment, one could hardly feel a hint of chill. The stars were sparse in the sky, and the moon hung high among the treetops, revealing only half of its crescent shape.
The trees on both sides still glowed with a faint milky white. Spring had not yet arrived, and it was uncertain when the lush green leaves would bloom, standing tall and solemn in the silence.
Mo Xier was lost in thought during the walk, and Zhuque remained silent, simply accompanying her as they walked through the quiet moonlight.
Bang!
Mo Xier, deep in thought, did not notice and bumped into the rocks of a nearby artificial hill. Before Zhuque could call out, she saw Mo Xier's soft head collide violently with the rock, her eyes tightly closed.
Mo Xier winced in pain as she reached up to touch her forehead, only to see a splash of bright red staining her palm—dazzling and blinding. The vivid red swirled in her pupils, making it hard to discern what she was thinking.
Suddenly, she seemed to be filled with energy as she grabbed Zhuque's arm and shook it vigorously. "Zhuque, I've found it! I finally found it."
What followed was a burst of laughter; tears streamed down her cheeks and fell onto her fair skin. In that moment of excitement, she felt like she could run around the entire estate.
After thinking about this for so long, seeing that splash of blood surged emotions within her. She felt no pain; she was just relieved and thrilled to have finally found the last ingredient for the antidote.
Zhuque looked at the excited Mo Xier with confusion and asked, "Miss, what did you find?"
Not understanding why Mo Xier was so ecstatic after seeing blood, Zhuque wondered if she had lost her mind.
"The final ingredient for the antidote! I finally found it! The stars are saved!" Mo Xier said excitedly after calming her laughter.
"Really?" Zhuque was taken aback by Mo Xier's words. "What is it?"
"Blood—human blood," Mo Xier replied as she looked at Zhuque. "We need to make the antidote right now. Zhuque, I need your help."
Upon learning about the last ingredient for the antidote, Mo Xier made a decision in her heart.
"What?" Zhuque looked at her in confusion.
Glancing sideways at her, Mo Xier slowly said, "This ingredient must be human blood, so I've decided to use my own blood to create the antidote. However, you will need to help me with the bloodletting process later."
Zhuque was startled, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes. "Miss, you can't..."
If their master found out, it would surely stir up a storm!
"Zhuque, we can't wait any longer for Xingchen's body. The poison has already spread throughout his system. If we delay any further, the consequences could be unimaginable." She couldn't bear to think about what those consequences might be; she only knew that if such a situation occurred, she might suffer immensely.
"But what will happen to you?" Zhuque looked at Mo Xier with concern, unable to imagine what would happen to her if she truly used her own blood.
Mo Xier smiled at Zhuque and said slowly, "I'll be fine. At most, I'll just feel weak and need a few days of rest."
Zhuque wanted to say more, but Mo Xier coldly interrupted her, not allowing any objections. She didn't have time for idle chatter; as long as she could save Night Star, she didn't care about the consequences.
And with that, Mo Xier was gone for a day. Night Star did not see Mo Xier until the evening of the following day. Feeling puzzled, he tried to get up but as soon as he moved, he coughed up a mouthful of blood.
