Wang Bing wanted to say something but was interrupted by his brother. He walked towards me, raising his hand as if to hit me.
Li Jiang grabbed his hand and stood in front of me. "Yin Yin is your sister; how can you hit her?"
His brother gritted his teeth and said, "I’m hitting her!"
Li Jiang pushed him away. "Whoever dares to hit Yin Yin, I will hit them!"
Wang Bing shouted, "Lu Tian, is the child no longer yours?"
His brother immediately backed down, saying, "Xiao Bing, don’t be angry; I was just trying to scare her."
Our mother came over and said to Li Jiang, "Xiao Jiang, take Yin Yin home; her sister-in-law just gave birth and can’t be upset."
After that day, I had no more contact with my family. My mother occasionally called me a few times, saying she missed me. Each time, I made an excuse about being busy with work and hurriedly hung up.
It wasn't that I didn't want to talk to her; I was just afraid that if I let my guard down for a moment, I would fall into a gentle trap.
One day while I was working overtime at the company, my mother called me in an anxious tone: "Yin Yin, where are you?"
I replied, "I’m at the company working late; what’s wrong?"
She said, "Your nephew has a fever, and your brother isn’t home. My phone is dead, so I can’t call an ambulance; I could only call you."
Upon hearing this, I immediately panicked. "Mom, wait for me; I'll come right over!"
I hung up the phone and quickly took a taxi to my mother's house.
The child had a high fever and his face was flushed red.
My mother was anxiously pacing around. "What should we do?"
I said, "Call 120!"
She replied, "My phone is dead; what’s the number for 120?"
I was speechless and quickly dialed 120, providing them with the address.
We followed the ambulance to the hospital, where the doctor examined the child and finally started an IV drip. Wang Bing arrived late, wearing high heels.
When her mother saw her, she couldn't help but complain, "Why did you come now?"
Wang Bing glanced at her, "If I didn't come, wouldn't you be here?"
The mother's expression changed, "Isn't this child your own? How can you be so indifferent?"
Wang Bing scoffed, "I work myself to the bone every day and haven't complained; what are you complaining about?"
I really couldn't stand these two. "Both of you shut up; this is a hospital!"
They fell silent.
Wang Bing sat aside and took out her phone to play with it.
The more I watched, the angrier I became, unable to hold back, "Wang Bing, this is a piece of flesh that fell from you; how can you not care?"
Wang Bing shot me a glance, "I do care; that's why I asked my mom to help me out. What's wrong with that?"
I sneered, "No problem; keep it up. If anything happens to the child, you won't have time to regret it!"
Wang Bing rolled her eyes at me, "It's none of your business."
I took my mother's hand, "Mom, let's go."
Her mother looked reluctantly at Wang Bing but was pushed away by her.
"Mom, hurry up and leave; I can't stand looking at you."
With a sigh, my mother left the hospital with me.
I always felt that Wang Bing's late arrival had to be suspicious. Sure enough, outside the hospital, I spotted a suspicious man.
Soon after, I saw this man with Wang Bing, both looking flustered. If I wasn't mistaken, this man was likely Wang Bing's lover. They seemed to be discussing matters concerning the child.
I saw a flicker of impatience on the man's face. Wang Bing kept pleading with him, and only then did he reluctantly accompany her upstairs. I wasn't interested in what they were saying. Since the child was fine, I felt relieved.
