Compared to continuing the search for food, there was something more urgent that needed to be addressed. 0

Using the outdoor light, Li Nan checked the entire hallway and then bent down alone; he needed to block the unit door downstairs. If that door hadn't been wide open, the group of Zombies from last night wouldn't have been able to break in at all! 0

Mo Xiaohui, having nothing better to do, followed closely behind Li Nan as they went down. 0

As they passed the fifth floor, Li Nan said to Mo Xiaohui behind him, "The traces here are too bloody; we need to clean this up. You can handle that here! I'll go down first!" 0

Mo Xiaohui had some objections to Li Nan's arrangement. "Fine! Fine! Who told you that you're a man and I'm a woman? I have to listen to you!" 0

Li Nan smiled in response. "Right now, we're in this together, no distinction between you and me; it's just a matter of division of labor!" 0

Suddenly, Mo Xiaohui thought of the evil feudal society where women were merely tools for reproduction, with no status at all. Upon realizing this, she quickly shook her head. "Li Nan can't be that much of a chauvinist, can he?" 0

Li Nan seemed to sense Mo Xiaohui's thoughts and turned back to say, "You handle the cleaning while I focus on fortifying; isn't that good? Do you want to switch roles?" 0

Mo Xiaohui shook her head. "Not that I don't want to; cleaning is actually quite nice. I'm happy to do it!" 0

After searching for a moment in the apartment on the fifth floor, Mo Xiaohui found a broom and mop, then filled a large basin with clean water and poured it on the floor and in the hallway, bending down like a diligent housewife scrubbing away. 0

"Do you really think I'm your maid? Doing this is less satisfying than going outside to kill Zombies!" Mo Xiaohui silently cursed but still wore a cheerful smile. 0

Seeing Mo Xiaohui's positive attitude, Li Nan immediately got up and went downstairs. 0

Li Nan couldn't remember if he had closed the unit door when he first entered, but now it was definitely wide open. Once downstairs, Li Nan frowned even more because it was pouring rain outside, and water had already started seeping into the unit from the door. 0

When he reached the first floor, Li Nan's ankle was already submerged in water. 0

"What’s going on?" Clearly, Li Nan had no concept of heavy rain; he only thought that the downpour had limited their movement, not realizing that it had already caused a flood. 0

Li Nan continued forward, approaching the unit door, and then pushed it hard, intending to close it tightly. 0

He exerted force, but just as the door began to move, he suddenly felt resistance, as if something was blocking it. 0

Li Nan stopped and carefully examined the door. He found nothing obstructing it, yet it was clearly immovable. Lowering his gaze, he stared at the water that could conceal his ankles and instantly understood, "So something is under the water!" 0

Bending down, Li Nan extended both hands into the murky water. After a few moments of searching, he seemed to touch something sizable beneath the door. 0

"It feels round, like a watermelon!" Li Nan thought to himself, then clasped his hands together and exerted force, trying to pull out whatever was blocking the door! 0

He lifted his hands, but clearly underestimated the weight of the object in the water. As he stood up for the first time, that object didn’t budge at all. 0

"Looks like it's a tough one!" Li Nan initially thought it was just a watermelon weighing a few dozen pounds, but it turned out to weigh around a hundred pounds, which is why he couldn't lift it. After assessing the situation, Li Nan decided to use all his strength; even a cow could be pulled up. 0

In the middle of the standing water, as Li Nan moved, the water began to part, forming ripples that spread outward. In response to this movement, a long object emerged from the water. 0

Li Nan focused on the surface of the water and leaned back. Just as that object partially surfaced, he couldn’t help but gasp in shock. 0

He found that his hands were resting on a person's head, gripping their chin tightly. Realizing this, Li Nan immediately loosened his grip, causing the person to fall back into the water with a splash. 0

What Li Nan pulled out was a person—more accurately, a corpse. It had been submerged for so long that it was bloated; its face resembled that of a pig's head with no discernible features and looked just like a large watermelon. The limbs that remained submerged were also swollen like columns and would likely burst if squeezed. 0

Li Nan retracted his hands, only to find that what was on his fingers was not water, but a greasy substance resembling butter, slick and oily. 0

He felt a bit nauseated by the scene and bent down to rinse his hands in the standing water, but the greasy substance wouldn't wash off at all. 0

At that moment, Li Nan felt a sense of discomfort, wondering how such a thing could exist in this water. 0

Before he could think much more about it, the corpse that had fallen back into the water suddenly twitched, and its swollen head, resembling that of a pig, slightly peeked out, swaying towards Li Nan's direction. 0

The surface of the water rippled as the corpse slowly crawled towards Li Nan like a dog. Its arms, now grotesquely distorted, flailed about while it emitted a sound akin to a growl, producing countless bubbles in the water. 0

Li Nan found this scene exceedingly bizarre; a zombie was actually emerging from the water. If he had been just a bit less lucky earlier, he might have already sent his fingers straight into its mouth—if it still had one! 0

With splashes of water flying everywhere, Li Nan witnessed the zombie he had just pulled out re-emerging from the surface. There was no way he would give it another chance; he immediately kicked out with his foot, landing a direct hit on the zombie's face. 0

Li Nan's kick landed somewhere on the creature; however, black water splattered out immediately and sprayed onto his face. 0

A chilling sensation assaulted Li Nan's brain nerves, followed by a sharp pain in his eyes that felt like burning! 0

"Ah!" Li Nan gasped inwardly. Without time to think further, he kicked out again until he managed to flip the creature over in the water. 0

With his eyes tightly shut and feeling dizzy all around him, he didn't lose control. Instead, he recalled where the zombie had been and lunged forward with all his strength, tearing the zombie in half and smashing its head into mush. 0

Li Nan plunged into the standing water and flailed his hands until he found the obstructed door panel. He then exerted force to wedge the half-zombie's body against the door frame, securing it tightly. 0

As the door closed, it created ripples in the water that splashed against the surrounding walls before rebounding back and hitting Li Nan's face. 0

Water splashed against Li Nan's face, and his tightly closed eyelids gradually relaxed, though for the moment, his vision remained shrouded in darkness. 0

At that moment, a series of "ding ding" sounds echoed from the hallway as Mo Xiaohui hurried down, shouting, "Li Nan, what's wrong? What happened?" 0

While cleaning the hallway on the fifth floor, Mo Xiaohui had heard sounds of a struggle from below. Recalling past events, she guessed that something unfortunate might have occurred, prompting her to rush downstairs. 0

Sure enough, upon seeing the first-floor hallway flooded with water, Mo Xiaohui panicked. The absence of Li Nan's figure made her feel even more alarmed. 0

Li Nan, lying in the water, sensed Mo Xiaohui coming down and immediately stood up, shaking off the water before calling out to her, "I'm fine! Everything is under control!" 0

Mo Xiaohui was unaware of what had happened downstairs. Seeing Li Nan standing unharmed in front of her eased her worries. "You scared me! I thought something terrible had happened!" 0

She placed a hand on her chest to calm herself and walked toward Li Nan. 0

Hearing footsteps splashing in the water, Li Nan moved to meet her but stumbled and fell into the water, splashing Mo Xiaohui in the process. 0

Mo Xiaohui gasped and quickly reached out to help Li Nan up. In that instant, she noticed black blood oozing from his eyes. 0

"Your eyes?" Mo Xiaohui exclaimed as a half-destroyed head fell nearby. 0

Li Nan smiled. "Just a little issue; it's nothing serious!" 0

Mo Xiaohui replied in confusion, "You're a doctor; you know better than I do how to handle this. If you deal with it quickly..." 0

Li Nan winced as he opened his eyes to reveal two eyeballs splattered with black blood. "These ghosts are just too greasy; water won't wash it off at all!" 0

Mo Xiaohui supported Li Nan, then kicked away the head beside them, leading him step by step in front. With tears in her eyes, she said, "There must be a way, there must be a way. I believe you won't become... blind!" 0

Li Nan held Mo Xiaohui's hand, carefully following behind. "If I become blind, will you leave me?" 0

Mo Xiaohui shook her head and then realized that Li Nan could no longer see. "No! If you really become blind, then let me, Mo Xiaohui, be your eyes!" 0

"We're going up the stairs; be careful. There are ten steps ahead!" Mo Xiaohui held Li Nan's hand and cautiously guided him to the eighth-floor room. 0

After returning to the room, Mo Xiaohui rummaged through the kitchen and shouted to Li Nan, "Water won't wash that stuff off. What about alcohol or vinegar?" 0

Normally, if clothes were stained with difficult-to-remove grease, a little gasoline could be used for cleaning because the solubility of grease and gasoline is quite similar, allowing them to dissolve into each other more easily. However, the eyes are sensitive organs of the human body and cannot tolerate just anything, so Mo Xiaohui felt helpless. 0

Li Nan used his hands to hold open his upper and lower eyelids while trying to keep his eyeballs aligned with the ground to help the black liquid flow out under gravity. However, he underestimated the stickiness of Zombie Black Blood; it was almost like black oil. 0

"Just find me some alcohol or something like that. Vinegar is corrosive; I'm afraid that while this stuff won't do much to me, vinegar might actually make me blind!" Li Nan tried to stay alert; he didn't want his condition to turn into Mo Xiaohui's panic, so he kept stabilizing her emotions. 0
