Li Nan had no idea about what he was experiencing, thinking it was just a common eye injury, unaware that his eyes were slowly undergoing changes.
Under the sunlight, Mo Xiaohui gently lifted Li Nan's eyelid for a closer look and noticed something unusual about his eyes. The Black Blood that had been there was completely gone, replaced by a thin layer of dark gray film covering Li Nan's eyeball.
"What is happening? It feels like cataracts!" Mo Xiaohui questioned, while Li Nan reached up to touch the area around his eye. "It's not cataracts. Not only am I not at that age, but even if I were in my seventies or eighties, cataracts wouldn't just appear out of nowhere!"
Mo Xiaohui didn't understand medical issues at all, so she could only listen to Li Nan's explanation. "If it's not cataracts, then what is it?"
Li Nan shook his head. "I don't know. The Black Blood splashed into my eyes, and then this situation appeared. Plus, I felt unwell before; I suspect that the Black Blood hasn't disappeared but has been absorbed into the eye socket!"
Mo Xiaohui was stunned. "How is that possible? If anything that enters the eye gets absorbed, then if a speck of dust gets in, wouldn't that lead to eye stones?"
Li Nan's expression turned serious. "Believe it or not, there is such a condition as eye stones. Do you want me to tell you some details about it?"
Mo Xiaohui imagined that beneath the eyelid there weren't smooth tissues but rather protruding stones, which was somewhat horrifying.
Most people have a fear of clusters; for example, a pattern made up of a thousand lines can make one feel dizzy, while a thousand bees gathered in one place can cause one's scalp to tingle.
Mo Xiaohui shuddered. "No need for you to educate me; I'm only concerned about your condition right now!"
Li Nan moved his eyeball, but from behind the thin film, Mo Xiaohui couldn't see any movement.
"I can't see you moving your eyeball!"
Hearing Mo Xiaohui's denial, Li Nan murmured, "It might be a keratin-like film. Such things appear on living organisms mainly to protect vital organs. For instance, amphibians like turtles have a flexible film over their eyeballs that protects their eyes when they are underwater and retracts naturally when they are out of water. It seems similar to that type!"
Mo Xiaohui asked skeptically, "Can you control that keratin layer?"
Li Nan shook his head, "You're thinking too much. I'm not a turtle. Besides, this kind of thing isn't innate; I still can't see anything!"
Mo Xiaohui tried to lightly blow at the corner of Li Nan's eyes, but that thin membrane didn't budge at all.
At this moment, Mo Xiaohui boldly suggested, "How about I perform surgery and cut that membrane off? After that, you should be able to see clearly!"
Li Nan gasped, "You really dare to think that! If I entrusted my eyes to you, they'd probably turn into two bloody holes in less than half a minute!"
Mo Xiaohui said seriously, "So there's really no way?"
"Just leave it to fate. At least right now, I feel like my eyes won't have any more issues, and my vision is a bit brighter than before. Although I still can't see anything, it feels like things are improving!"
Mo Xiaohui dismissed it, "Without any intervention, how could it possibly improve on its own?"
Li Nan smiled, "Did you forget who I am? My physique is extraordinary; not only can I ignore the Zombie Virus, but I can also heal quickly. My strength is three times greater than usual. With my Green Giant mode activated, how could I possibly be easily defeated? So there's no need to worry!"
Mo Xiaohui slowly released her hold on Li Nan's eyes and said, "It seems we have no choice but to do this. There's nothing more we can do."
Li Nan walked from the dining table into the living room and after stumbling a few times, he finally sat down on the sofa.
Mo Xiaohui was clearing the dining table when she said to Li Nan, "For the upcoming sweep of the building, I'll handle it myself. You stay home and rest well!"
"No way! The other residents' homes might have Zombies too; that's too dangerous for you to go alone!"
Mo Xiaohui argued, "Even if a family of three has turned into Zombies, it's not that scary. Their speed is too slow; as long as I stay alert, dealing with two or three Zombies will definitely be fine. So I can manage on my own!"
Li Nan countered, "What if your alertness isn't as high as you think? Have you ever played CS, CF, or any competitive games?"
Mo Xiaohui shook her head, "I've played Angry Birds!"
Li Nan chuckled in disbelief, "So your reaction just can't keep up with the environment. You can't act alone!"
Mo Xiaohui couldn't understand Li Nan's logic at all, "Then should I bring you along? Wouldn't that be more troublesome?"
"Not necessarily!" Li Nan said slowly, and Mo Xiaohui turned back to look at the man sitting on the sofa. She then said, "Since you're not afraid of Zombies, why not be a front-line tank and clear the way for me!"
Li Nan thought to himself, "The wasp's stinger, the most poisonous is a woman's heart, truly no mistake!"
After tidying up the dining table, it was already around two in the afternoon. If they wanted to get any work done, they had to speed up because after nightfall, visibility would be poor and dangers would increase.
Mo Xiaohui walked from the kitchen to her bedroom, taking off her clothes as she went. Since she was going to sweep the building soon and it would require a lot of physical effort, she needed to change into something tight-fitting that wouldn't hinder her work.
Fortunately, the owner's daughter had plenty of clothes in her wardrobe, with various styles available and sizes that were similar to Mo Xiaohui's. So she could make use of them.
Now Mo Xiaohui didn't mind Li Nan being around, and since his eyes couldn't see anything anyway, she became bolder and stripped down to nothing right in the living room!
She found a flesh-colored bra in the wardrobe and without thinking much, she held it up against her chest. Although it struggled to contain her ample assets, it was enough to keep those two mischievous ones in place so she wouldn't have to go in bare.
Mo Xiaohui then pulled out a black tight-fitting sports outfit that fit well and put it on directly.
Li Nan, waiting impatiently in the living room, called out, "What are you doing? Taking your sweet time like you're about to give birth?"
Mo Xiaohui chuckled, "What's wrong with a man waiting for a woman? Besides, I'm just changing clothes!"
About ten minutes later, Mo Xiaohui finally walked out of her bedroom while Li Nan muttered continuously, "Women are really troublesome. What’s there to dress up for in this situation? Besides, I can't even see!"
At this point, Mo Xiaohui's face twitched. "I dressed up for you. Although you can't see it, I have you in my heart, so I won't let myself go!"
Li Nan felt a warmth in his heart and immediately wrapped his arm around Mo Xiaohui's. "Alright, let's not dwell on that. We need to make the most of our time!"
Going from the eighth floor down to the seventh, Mo Xiaohui stayed by Li Nan's side, supporting him. They moved slowly down the stairs, taking about eight minutes instead of the usual ten.
Li Nan's plan was to search from top to bottom, so they first reached the seventh floor before proceeding downward.
Mo Xiaohui tested the doors at the seventh-floor residents' entrance and found both doors tightly locked and unable to open. If Li Nan hadn't been with her, she would have likely returned empty-handed.
Mo Xiaohui helped Li Nan to the entrance of the seventh floor, then Li Nan took out the screwdriver he had tucked behind him. He felt around for the keyhole, then forcefully inserted it. With a powerful twist of his arm, he caused the internal structure of the lock to become a jumbled mess. The security door was left with only its function as a door; it could open and close but was no longer secure.
Li Nan pushed open the outer door and was immediately hit by a musty smell that nearly made him stumble.
Fortunately, Mo Xiaohui was behind him and managed to steady him, preventing him from falling.
"What’s going on?" Mo Xiaohui wondered quietly, while Li Nan was equally puzzled. "Maybe the apples in here have fermented into apple cider!"
Mo Xiaohui wasn't in the mood for jokes and was about to rush in to investigate when Li Nan suddenly stopped her. "Wait a moment; let the smell dissipate first. Otherwise, we'll be knocked out in just a couple of steps!"
Now, Li Nan was like a general, and Mo Xiaohui was his little nurse, so she obediently listened to him.
After waiting outside for about five or six minutes, Li Nan finally leaned against the wall and walked inside.
Mo Xiaohui followed closely behind, looking around as she walked and said to Li Nan, "There's a storage cabinet over here; to the right is the living room, and to the left is the kitchen. It seems there’s also a study or something like that over there..."
Listening to Mo Xiaohui's explanation, Li Nan quietly called out, "Is anyone here?"
Mo Xiaohui said in confusion, "How could there be anyone with such a strong smell? If there is, they must be dead!"
Li Nan ignored Mo Xiaohui's words and continued to shout, "Is anyone there?" He then turned and walked towards the kitchen.
In modern households, the supplies stored are usually just everyday food items, which are mostly kept in the kitchen, so Li Nan headed straight for the main point.
Mo Xiaohui pinched her nose and followed behind Li Nan. As she glanced around, she spotted a refrigerator next to the left wall. "Another find!"
Mo Xiaohui walked over, opened the refrigerator door, and saw a large amount of food—fresh milk, eggs, fruit juice, sausages, and a bag of cooked food—all of which delighted her.
"Why does this family have so much stuff in their fridge? Are they planning to hibernate?" Mo Xiaohui exclaimed joyfully as she began to stuff food into her backpack, quickly emptying the entire refrigerator.
Having secured her haul, Mo Xiaohui turned to look at Li Nan, who was feeling along the wall near the gas stove.
"There's nothing over there; you can come back!" Mo Xiaohui shouted to Li Nan. However, as Li Nan kicked his leg, he noticed something under his foot.
"Who said there's nothing? Come see what’s under my foot!" Li Nan said to Mo Xiaohui, and at that moment, the thing beneath his foot began to wriggle.
