As Li Nan was deep in thought, Mo Xiaohui beside him also noticed the strange situation and immediately turned to ask Li Nan, "Is there someone in the building across?" 0

Li Nan furrowed his brows, seemingly unprepared for such a situation. On the fourth day of the apocalypse, with heavy rain pouring down, it was surprising to find a Survivor in the building opposite them! 0

Just as Mo Xiaohui was about to express her excitement, Li Nan dampened her enthusiasm by saying, "Having a Survivor isn't necessarily a good thing; we need to think this through carefully!" 0

Mo Xiaohui dismissed his concerns, saying, "There are still people alive! We have to help them!" 0

Li Nan turned off the lights in the room and told Mo Xiaohui, "The situation is uncertain; it's better to be cautious for now!" 0

Outside the window, in a room on the eighth floor across the street, a flashlight flickered intermittently, seemingly trying to convey some message. At that moment, Mo Xiaohui said to Li Nan, "It's an SOS; they are calling for help!" 0

Li Nan noticed their actions but hesitated. After encountering Old Tian in the blood bank at Jiangbei Hospital, he had been skeptical about his own kind. If he couldn't trust friends he had gotten along with well, what reason did he have to trust strangers? 0

Mo Xiaohui didn't know what Li Nan was thinking and was about to turn back out when Li Nan stopped her, asking, "What do you want to do?" 0

"I want to save them! They must be in danger right now; we have to do something!" 0

Li Nan sighed, "You trust that unknown person so easily; I think things might not be that simple!" 0

Mo Xiaohui refused to listen to Li Nan's words. "We are not Zombies; we need to help our kind!" 0

Unable to argue against Mo Xiaohui, Li Nan finally nodded and said, "You might be right; we shouldn't abandon our kind. But if we're going to rescue that person, it should be me going, not you!" 0

Mo Xiaohui smiled and replied, "If you're willing to take action, it will surely be safe!" 0

Li Nan pulled a screwdriver from the waistband of his pants, gripping it tightly in his hand. He then instructed Mo Xiaohui, "I'm going to check the building across the street. Stay here, and before I return, don't turn on the lights or make any noise!" 0

Mo Xiaohui nodded, "I understand your concern. I'll take care of myself, but your eyes have just healed..." 0

Li Nan didn't want to create a scene of reluctant parting with Mo Xiaohui; he simply said, "Be careful of strangers!" 0

Mo Xiaohui nodded deeply, and Li Nan stepped out the door. 0

Wearing a raincoat he had scavenged, Li Nan hurried downstairs with the screwdriver in hand. Outside, the rain poured heavily, almost turning the area into a water city. 0

As his foot stepped into the puddles on the ground, a chill rushed over him, causing him to shiver. The raindrops falling "pata pata" against his raincoat were quite painful as well. 0

When Li Nan reached the ground floor, he instinctively glanced toward the room where Mo Xiaohui was. Without any light for orientation and with the night being hazy, it was difficult to determine her exact location. This was Li Nan's backup plan; he really couldn't easily trust a stranger, so he had to keep his guard up. 0

Li Nan was in Happiness Community Building B, while the building across from him was A Building, less than twenty meters away. Under normal circumstances, visibility between the two buildings was good enough that Li Nan had once been scolded from afar by a little girl for staring at her. 0

However, at this time of night and with the heavy rain, identifying the other person's position was somewhat challenging. 0

Li Nan sensed that the person he was looking for was also on the eighth floor, but he hesitated about which unit door to enter. Just then, that strange flashlight flickered back to life without any additional movement, merely shining directly into the night sky. 0

Li Nan focused on that direction and immediately ran up. 0

Once inside the stairwell, Li Nan felt that the electricity in this building must be out because no matter how heavily he stepped, none of the motion-sensor lights in the corridor turned on. This could explain why that guy had been discovered. 0

Li Nan pulled down the hood of his raincoat and began to move slowly upward with careful steps through the sound of water cascading down. 0

Li Nan did not know how many people were on the other side or what kind of danger they had encountered. However, since entering the building, he felt a chill running down his back; the atmosphere here seemed unusual. 0

Perhaps it was due to being caught in the heavy rain, but Li Nan felt that something bad must have happened in this building, and his steps were particularly slow. He had to be very careful; otherwise, he might end up being outsmarted by the living instead of the Zombies! 0

Walking from the first floor to the seventh, although he sensed something was off, nothing happened; he didn't even see a single Zombie. 0

Previously, to conserve power, Li Nan had been climbing along the stair railing. Now that he reached the seventh floor, it was necessary for him to keep his vision clear. 0

Li Nan pulled out the last remaining Wolf Eye Flashlight from his sleeve and shone it on the floor of the corridor. To his surprise, there were no water marks at all in front of him. 0

At this moment, Li Nan began to wonder, "It seems that they haven't encountered any Zombies breaking in from outside. So what kind of danger could they be facing? Could a few Zombies wandering around individual homes really make a living person panic like this?" 0

Li Nan didn't want to dwell too much on his speculation about the others because there was nothing substantial to draw conclusions from based solely on that. 0

He continued moving forward but was now much more cautious. With the Wolf Eye in his left hand and a Screwdriver in his right, he backed against the corner of the corridor wall and proceeded carefully. 0

Room A801 had its door wide open. Li Nan didn't call out; he simply stepped inside. Then, with his left hand holding the flashlight, he looked around but saw nothing. 0

As Li Nan entered a room, he discovered a flashlight lying alone on a chair, its beam directed right towards Mo Xiaohui's room. 0

The flashlight was on, but there was no one around. Could this flashlight turn itself on and off and signal "SOS"? Li Nan would not believe such a thing; there must be something sinister going on here! 0

Li Nan picked up the flashlight and turned it back towards this room. It seemed to be the study of the house's owner, styled quite traditionally. However, Li Nan's focus was not on that; his gaze fell upon the wall on the southern side of the study where a Galloping Horses Painting hung. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something unusual behind that painting. 0

On the left edge of the Galloping Horses Painting extended a dark red color that appeared to be bloodstains! 0

Li Nan held a flashlight and slowly approached. Then, with a tug of his arm, he ripped down the Galloping Horses Painting. Behind the painting, the wall was splattered with dense bloodstains, looking as if someone had dyed it with red paint. However, Li Nan understood that the large dark red area on the wall was human blood—fresh human blood! 0

Li Nan's heart sank, and he thought to himself, "Where there is human blood, there must be a life lost!" He then swung the flashlight around and finally discovered a mutilated corpse beneath an Office Desk. 0

A woman lay on the ground, her clothes completely torn off. Her entire head had been severed from the back by a sharp weapon, and both thighs had been chopped off at the roots. Her arms were also detached from the shoulders, leaving only a bleeding torso behind, though the bloodstains had long since dried. 0

Li Nan covered his mouth to prevent himself from vomiting. "Who could have done this?" 0

Just as Li Nan felt bile rising in his stomach, the remaining torso of the corpse suddenly lifted its head. The long hair, matted with blood, flipped up as it raised its head; its mouth moved as if trying to say something! 0

This woman had not turned into a Zombie; the bright red blood flowing from her body made that clear. If so, why had someone done this to her? 0

The woman kept her eyes tightly shut and stammered as if trying to speak but ultimately could not make a sound. Li Nan turned his gaze and noticed a bowl on the desk filled with fresh blood, containing two round eyeballs and a bloody tongue! 0

Li Nan's scalp tingled, and he silently vowed, "Whoever did this to you must never be forgiven! Absolutely never!" 0

A living person—a woman who had not yet breathed her last—stood before Li Nan in all her nakedness. At that moment, all Li Nan felt was anger! 0

Even in an apocalyptic world where order had collapsed, such cruelty could not be tolerated. This was not just an affront to humanity; it was utterly insane! 0

Li Nan's heart remained unsettled for a long time. The screwdriver in his hand wavered between action and hesitation. He wanted to end this woman's suffering but felt unable to do so. He knew nothing about her; could he really let her die at the hands of a stranger? 0

In the end, Li Nan steeled himself and plunged the screwdriver down, causing droplets of milky white fluid to spurt out! 0

Li Nan turned over the woman's corpse and saw countless handprints and bite marks left on her shriveled breasts, with congealed blood around her thighs! 0

It seems that the person who committed the crime is no longer even a beast; they are worse than an animal! 0

Li Nan closed her eyes, took off her raincoat, and covered the corpse with it, as a final act of pity from a stranger. 0

After dealing with that woman, Li Nan recalled the events leading up to this moment and immediately thought something was wrong, rushing out of the house. 0

As she burst out, Li Nan caught sight of two human legs placed prominently on the kitchen counter, and beside them, a hand emerging from the pot on the induction cooker, its color resembling sauce. 0

Li Nan was horrified, gripping the screwdriver tightly in her hand, her palm already marked with blood from her nails digging in. 0

As she ran into the rain, Li Nan saw that her house was lit up, and she knew something was amiss. 0

"Mo Xiaohui! You must wait for me! You must wait for me!" Li Nan kept murmuring to herself, the droplets rolling down her forehead were no longer rain but sweat. 0

Now Li Nan could be certain that the person who committed the crime in A801 had long been targeting her and Mo Xiaohui. Moreover, that strange flashlight beam and the inexplicable SOS were merely a diversion! 0
