The situation changed abruptly. When they escaped from the Medical Research Center Building, they thought they had evaded danger, only to find themselves in another perilous situation. Outside the Medical Research Center Building, there were thousands of Zombie Soldiers waiting for them.
Just as Li Nan and the others were preparing to fight the Zombie Soldiers to the death, those Zombie Soldiers suddenly fled in panic. The surprise and twists of fate were truly astonishing!
Unfortunately, this turn of events was not a good sign. The reason the Zombie Soldiers fled was entirely due to their fear of the monsters crawling out from the ruins behind Li Nan and his group, and Li Nan and his companions were equally terrified!
Li Nan watched the fleeing Zombie Soldiers with a hint of joy, saying, "That Gorilla isn't dead; it might actually be a good thing!"
He then pointed eastward, "Let's head that way!"
Fatty, with keen eyes, immediately spotted a row of armored vehicles and tanks to the east.
Li Nan smiled and asked, "Does anyone know how to drive a tank?"
Fatty shook his head, "Those things are cramped and narrow; only a rat would want one. Let's just take an armored vehicle to escape!"
Li Nan agreed and ran toward the armored vehicles.
Behind them, the Gorilla had managed to push its long hairy hands out from the rubble, clawing at the beams that had fallen on top of it. It was quite fortunate that it survived such a tremendous impact without serious injury!
With an angry roar, the Gorilla leaped out from the ruins and looked around, clearly intent on tearing Li Nan and his group apart!
Seeing the situation behind him, Li Nan shouted, "Quick! If it spots us, we might not even escape in a tank!"
At that moment, the Gorilla pounded its chest in fury and strode forward, heading straight for the parking area.
Zombie Soldiers were fleeing in all directions, but the Gorilla seemed completely unconcerned. With a swipe of its hands, it smashed several Zombies into mush, their eyeballs scattering everywhere!
Hearing the massive noise created by the Gorilla, Li Nan estimated that their time was running out and they needed to act quickly.
Fatty was already close to an armored vehicle but found that its door was locked and couldn't be opened. Just as Fatty was getting anxious, Li Nan rushed over. Seeing Fatty's predicament, he reached out with one hand and effortlessly removed the front door of the armored vehicle!
"Impressive!" Fatty thought to himself as he quickly climbed inside.
Then Bitter Melon and Lin Hai jumped into the vehicle, squeezing into the back seat.
The military armored vehicle was quite spacious, more than enough to accommodate four people.
Fatty sat in the driver's seat, checking around and said, "This vehicle can run, but it doesn't have a key. I need to connect its circuits!"
Li Nan, sitting in the passenger seat, leaned out to look and hurriedly said, "You better hurry up; that Gorilla seems to have spotted us!"
Fatty lowered his head and fiddled with the vehicle's wiring, while about one or two thousand meters away, the Gorilla was scanning its surroundings with a fierce expression.
The Gorilla grabbed a Zombie tightly in its hand, squeezing it until it burst, and then it stuffed the gooey remains directly into its mouth!
The long fangs of the Gorilla were smeared with the sticky flesh, and the dark fluid from the Zombie slowly dripped down from the remains, looking extremely disgusting.
For Li Nan, this scene was nothing new; in this apocalypse, there were far worse things than this. However, he had yet to encounter anything more dangerous than that Gorilla!
Fatty's head hung low as sweat poured down his face, but he had no clue about what he was doing.
"This is my first time dealing with a military armored vehicle. Just give me a little more time—two minutes, and I can definitely get it working!" Fatty explained to himself, while Li Nan shouted sideways, "Everyone lie down! Don't let that Gorilla see us!"
Bitter Melon and Lin Hai in the back seat immediately crouched low on their seats, fearing they would be discovered by the Gorilla.
After searching fruitlessly, the frustrated Gorilla killed over a hundred Zombies. Just as it was seething with anger, it suddenly spotted a blinding light shining on an armored vehicle!
The Gorilla didn't know what an armored vehicle was, but it was very sensitive to light. Following that beam of light, it saw a figure!
The irritable Gorilla was overjoyed upon spotting its target and immediately charged over.
Li Nan, crouching low in the passenger seat, felt something unusual on his body. He looked up and realized that a vertical beam of light was shining on his back!
"What’s going on?" Li Nan thought to himself. The bright light was simply someone using a mirror or something similar to reflect sunlight!
"Dammit!" Li Nan cursed, immediately realizing what the beam of light meant. When he peeked outside, sure enough, the Gorilla had been attracted over!
Li Nan frowned, his eyes narrowing as he followed the beam of light. He wanted to see who was behind this attack!
However, just as Li Nan looked up, the light that had been shining on his back suddenly vanished. He glanced in the general direction but saw nothing.
"Who is messing with me? Could it be a rat?" Li Nan wondered, but the most pressing issue wasn't who was behind the attack; it was how to get rid of that long-haired Gorilla!
The Gorilla shook off its long fur, dark liquid from a Zombie still lingering at the corners of its mouth, in a frenzied state. At this point, trying to engage it in combat would likely result in being torn apart in just a couple of moves!
As the Gorilla charged forward, the ground trembled beneath it. Fatty sensed the urgency of the situation and immediately quickened his pace.
Li Nan knew Fatty was doing his best, so he didn't urge him on. For now, they could only do their part and leave the rest to fate!
The Gorilla's eyes glinted with malice; it seemed to hate Li Nan to the core. With its towering height of over five or six meters, it could easily wreck not just an armored vehicle but even a tank.
The long-haired Gorilla swung its massive arms as it closed in on the vehicle and slammed down on the armored car's windshield.
With a loud crash, the windshield shattered into pieces. Fortunately, this armored vehicle had been modified; otherwise, that blow would have rendered it useless.
Still unsatisfied, the Gorilla raised its gigantic hands as if to flip the armored car over. Just then, Fatty perked up and exclaimed, "Alright, it's done!"
Li Nan sighed inwardly, thinking, "If you hadn't finished by now, we would have been done for!"
Fatty gathered his spirits, gripped the steering wheel tightly, and slammed on the accelerator. The vehicle shot forward!
The armored car wasn't fast but had strong armor. However, once Fatty took control, he suddenly felt out of place. "Is this performance military-grade?"
Li Nan had no time for jokes with Fatty and shouted, "Step on it! Whether we can escape now depends on you!"
Fatty chuckled and replied, "Wow, am I really that important now?"
Just as Fatty was boasting, Bitter Melon suddenly gave him a hit on the head and said, "How can we entrust our lives to him?"
At the same time, the Gorilla, frustrated after failing to flip the vehicle, became even angrier, pounding its chest with its fists. It seemed that it wouldn't be satisfied until Li Nan and the others were turned into pulp!
Under Fatty's control, the armored vehicle swayed left and right. However, this speed was still insufficient in front of the massive Gorilla!
Fatty gritted his teeth and pressed the accelerator to the maximum, while the engine inside the vehicle seemed to be running at overload!
With a loud bang, the rear of the armored vehicle suddenly lifted up, and in an instant, Li Nan and the others inside felt as if they were in a formula racing car.
The momentary speed was indeed fierce, but the Gorilla's reaction speed was not slow either. It immediately landed on all fours and began to run like a monkey.
Seeing the Gorilla's speed through the rearview mirror made Fatty's heart sink. "With that speed, we might really be done for this time!"
Bitter Melon was speechless. "The speed is decent now; as long as we can shake it off for a hundred or two hundred kilometers, it definitely won't catch up!"
Fatty muttered to himself, "At this speed, being able to run a mile would be impressive. This vehicle and this engine—do you really think I can work miracles and make it feel like a formula car? I'm pushing this vehicle beyond its limits!"
What Fatty said was true. If they matched the Gorilla's speed, this vehicle would definitely not outrun it. In another minute or two, they would likely be torn apart!
The engine of the armored vehicle roared as it operated, but Lin Hai sitting in the back seat faintly heard a strange sound.
However, that sound did not last long. Lin Hai had no idea what it was; perhaps it was just the howling of the pursuing Gorilla behind them!
Just as Lin Hai hesitated, he suddenly turned around and found that the pursuing Gorilla had vanished!
"Nan Ge! Something's wrong; where's the Gorilla?"
Upon hearing Lin Hai speak, Li Nan immediately turned to look back at the vehicle. Apart from a few scattered Zombies, there was no sign of any Gorilla!
"What is going on?" Li Nan muttered anxiously, while Fatty also saw through the rearview mirror that there was nothing behind their armored vehicle!
At this moment, the armored vehicle had reached its maximum speed and began to slow down gradually.
Fatty waved his hand and said, "Could it be that guy is taking some shortcut? Shouldn't we change direction?"
Li Nan was lost in thought and immediately replied, "Did you hear any strange sounds just now?"
Lin Hai nodded, "I heard it too, but I didn't pay much attention at the time. Could it be that Gorilla was attracted by that sound?"
Li Nan was unsure of what had happened, but a shortcut was something that Gorilla shouldn't be able to pull off. Although the current situation seemed optimistic, the underlying issues remained severe. Where exactly had Gorilla gone?
At this point, Fatty chimed in, "Should I drive back and check it out?"
Li Nan forced a smile and said, "You would walk into a tiger's den like that?"
Fatty laughed heartily, "No matter where that Gorilla went, we're safe now. We can head back to the camp!"
(Just to clarify, the handling of Gorilla's sudden disappearance isn't due to laziness or intentional leniency on my part; it's merely laying down a plot point. As mentioned before, there are five Mutated Monsters in that Medical Research Center. The ones that haven't appeared yet aren't forgotten by me; they will have their moment later!)
