Enraged, Xiao Gou swung the beer bottle in his hand with all his might towards Xin Yi's head. Since you have already brutally hurt the little remaining self-esteem I had, I can only strike your good-looking head even harder.
The beer bottle whistled through the air as it descended towards Xin Yi's head, seemingly about to shatter upon impact. However, Xin Yi suddenly threw a chopstick from his hand, which struck Xiao Gou's hand—the one holding the beer bottle—right on the back. Xiao Gou felt a sharp pain and instinctively released his grip on the bottle. The beer bottle lost its momentum and began to fall towards the ground. Just as it was about to smash into pieces, Xin Yi swiftly extended a foot, catching the bottle with his foot and flicking it upward. The bottle flew back into his hand, and with the other hand, he grabbed a bottle opener. With a pop, he opened the cap and poured a full glass before the foam overflowed, then downed it in one gulp. He smiled at Little Gou and said, "Thanks for the beer! It tastes great."
This series of actions flowed seamlessly together, so fast that it left everyone around in awe. By the time they reacted, Xin Yi had already finished the beer and was smiling at Little Gou in gratitude.
"Clap..." It was unclear who started first, but soon everyone around was clapping along. A wave of enthusiastic applause erupted, and one girl couldn't help but shout out her affection for Xin Yi: "Great! Handsome! I love you like a mouse loves rice!"
Receiving such enthusiastic adoration from so many women stirred even Xin Yi's composed demeanor. He stood up with a smile and pressed his hands down to calm everyone, modestly saying, "Thank you all for your enthusiasm. Come on, let me toast to everyone!"
Everyone raised their glasses and cheered, "Cheers to the handsome guy!"
Poor Little Gou stood there with wide eyes, confused and bewildered by the enthusiastic crowd surrounding Xin Yi. How could this be? Was there really someone in this era who admired heroes? Was choosing to be a rogue truly a mistake? Little Gou felt lost.
After sharing a drink with everyone, the atmosphere became lively. Many bold girls approached Xin Yi's table to chat him up.
"Handsome guy, I'm Crimson. What's your name?"
"Handsome guy, leave me your phone number; I'll call you later if you have any requests."
"Handsome guy, what's your QQ number? Add me for private chats; we can video call too."
"Handsome guy, can I have your autograph?"
"Handsome guy, let's take a picture together."
...
The scene quickly spiraled out of control.
Xin Yi realized he had made a mistake; he understood that his charm and appeal had become a burden. Being surrounded by so many admirers was overwhelming—he never expected that happiness could also be exhausting.
Little Gou was completely driven mad by this scene. He returned to his table and told the remaining four people, "Keep an eye on him here; don’t let him get away."
"Brother Gou, where are you going now?" someone asked.
"I'm going to take him down tonight! I'm going back to get my stuff!" Xiao Gou replied fiercely, his bloodshot eyes glaring. His expression indicated that he had completely lost his mind; a desperate person could do anything. The others looked a bit scared and exchanged glances. The thin Pimonkey, who had wet his pants with beer, advised, "Brother Gou, I think... maybe we should just let it go. We haven't really lost anything..."
"Shut up!" Xiao Gou shot a fierce glare at the thin Pimonkey and quickly disappeared around the corner.
Xin Yi was busy dealing with the admirers surrounding him and didn't notice that Xiao Gou had hurriedly left. He also failed to see a woman in dark casual wear at a nearby stall, sipping beer and observing everything happening on his side.
After finally sending away the layers of admirers, Xin Yi let out a long sigh. Why was it that even when I try to be low-key, I still attract so much attention? Sigh, gold will shine wherever it is. Which sage said that? So damn true!
While Xin Yi was sitting there lost in thought, a tall bald man with half a cigarette in his mouth rushed over, followed by several burly men. The waiter who had greeted Xin Yi immediately went up and called out, "Brother Guang, you're here!"
The person leading the group was Brother Guang, the one Xin Yi was looking for tonight. He recognized him immediately from the photo he had seen in the information sent by Lu Jianming. Although the photo was a few years old, the man hadn't changed much.
Brother Guang's real name was Zhou Guang, one of the culprits behind Tong Xiaowei's car accident; he was the driver who crashed into Tong Xiaowei's vehicle from behind. Both he and another driver, Li Jun, only faced civil liability for that incident and then disappeared from Qiyang City. It turned out they had moved to the provincial capital to start a business, and judging by his appearance, it seemed they were doing quite well.
Zhou Guang snorted at the approaching waiter and gruffly asked, "Where's the troublemaker you mentioned? I was having a good time when you called me over to clean up your mess. Where is he?"
The waiter quickly leaned in and whispered a few words in Zhou Guang's ear. Zhou Guang's gaze shifted toward Xin Yi and the thin Pimonkeys. After the waiter finished speaking, Zhou Guang stepped forward toward them, with his burly companions closely following behind.
The remaining four thin Pimonkeys stood up quickly to greet him, "Hello, Brother Guang!"
Zhou Guang's face was grim as he scanned their faces and asked, "Were you guys causing trouble in my place?" His attitude seemed even more arrogant than these professional thugs', further confirming Xin Yi's suspicions. This provincial capital was the stronghold of the Black Dragon Society; their influence must be substantial and pervasive throughout every corner. If Xin Yi guessed correctly, these small-time thugs were likely part of the Black Dragon Society as well. Yet they showed such respect to Zhou Guang while he treated them so rudely.
This could only mean one thing: either Zhou Guang was part of the Black Dragon Society with a higher status than them or he was someone particularly favored by the upper echelons of the Black Dragon Society, meaning these thugs had no authority over him and instead had to protect him.
Seeing Zhou Guang's unfriendly demeanor, the thugs quickly lowered their heads and replied, "Brother Guang, we weren't causing trouble in your place; it was just... just a little argument between Brother Gou and a newcomer. It wasn't anything serious at all. Really, Brother Guang, how could we have the guts to cause trouble in your place? Hehe..."
"I welcome people coming to eat in my place, but from now on you better behave yourselves! Don't let me catch wind of any trouble you're causing here; otherwise I'll have Flower Leopard take care of you!" Brother Guang said arrogantly to the thin Pimonkeys.
"Yes, yes! We won't dare! We absolutely won't cause any trouble in Brother Guang's place; you can rest assured," they replied submissively, looking more respectful than they did toward their own boss.
Zhou Guang ignored them and walked straight over to Xin Yi's table. He stopped in front of Xin Yi and casually picked up a toothpick from the table while absentmindedly asking, "I heard this brother is looking for me? May I ask which path you're on and what business you have with me?"
Xin Yi put down the chopsticks in her hand, picked up a nearby teacup to rinse her mouth, and then replied leisurely, "I came to find Zhou Guang. Are you Zhou Guang? Hmm, it seems you've gained quite a bit of weight since seven years ago. How's life treating you? Your Guang Ge Night Market Flagship Store seems to be doing quite well."
"Seven years ago?" Zhou Guang, who was picking his teeth, suddenly became alert. He pulled out the toothpick from his mouth and asked, "Who exactly are you? What do you want to tell me?"
"Hehehe..." Xin Yi laughed and said, "Why are you so nervous when I mention seven years ago, Brother Guang? If I'm not mistaken, it's usually those with a guilty conscience who react this way. Did Brother Guang do something he regrets seven years ago?"
"Who the hell are you? I can't understand what you're saying!" Zhou Guang shouted angrily. "Stop rambling! If you don't want to get beaten up, finish your meal, pay the bill, and get lost! Damn! Crazy! Hey, Little Deng, come here and calculate how much this costs. Hurry up and tell him to settle the bill and leave!" Zhou Guang called out to the Waiter.
"Are you scared?" Xin Yi stared into Zhou Guang's eyes and said slowly, "Because you and Li Jun were involved in a murder case seven years ago. You thought you had escaped legal punishment all these years, but I'm here to tell you that's impossible. Now is the time for you to take responsibility."
Xin Yi's words caused Zhou Guang's face to change dramatically. To be honest, when he first heard Xin Yi mention seven years ago, he had a vague feeling that it was related to that incident from back then, which made him tense up. However, he never expected this person would directly reveal the truth of the matter, leaving him shocked. Did this person really know everything? What was their purpose in coming to find him?
"Who... who are you really? What is your goal?" Zhou Guang felt a sense of panic rising in his heart.
"What I was before doesn't matter; what matters is that I will be the one to bring you to justice. Whether it's seven years, seventeen years, or twenty-seven years later, you must take responsibility for what you've done," Xin Yi replied coldly.
"Damn! You're just a lunatic! A crazy person! I don't understand what you're saying! Brothers! Throw this lunatic out! No, throw him as far away as possible!" As cold sweat poured down his forehead, Zhou Guang ordered the several burly men behind him.
