Returning safely to Demon Suppression Mountain made Azure Vine and the others very happy. They praised Lingfeng for being young and accomplished, and since Zhi Lian had contributed to protecting Lingfeng, he was rewarded with two pills. The pills from the Demon Suppression Sect were carefully crafted, and Zhi Lian was naturally very grateful.
"Master, Brother, what about me? I played a crucial role in defeating the Locust King; what reward should I receive?" Seeing Zhi Lian being rewarded, Lingfeng also wanted something.
The Master laughed heartily and pointed at Lingfeng's Treasure Bag, saying, "Isn't there a treasure in that pouch of yours?"
"Treasure?" Lingfeng was puzzled. Aside from a talisman and a bottle of Jade Dew Protection Pill, there wasn't much else in his Treasure Bag.
The Master continued, "When you entered, I sensed a fierce chill emanating from you. Although it may not be a top-tier weapon, it must be a treasure obtained from the Locust King."
Lingfeng thought for a moment and suddenly remembered the two sickles. He took them out of his Treasure Bag and asked, "Is it these?"
Sure enough, Azure Vine's eyes lit up as he quickly took the sickles and said, "These are the wings of the Locust King—extremely hard and incredibly rare. While ordinary Locust Spirits can forge weapons, most are low-grade; it's rare to find one that can transform itself into a weapon."
"Indeed," the Master nodded. "This Locust King hadn't yet fully matured and couldn't use its own crafted weapons, which is why you were able to defeat it. If it could take human form, even ten Lingfengs wouldn't be its match."
Lingfeng smirked inwardly, thinking that it was still defeated by him. However, he didn't voice this thought and instead asked, "What use do these sickles have? They seem ordinary aside from their nice color."
"Child, although these sickles appear plain, you don't truly understand their intricacies," Azure Vine explained. "When the Locust King takes flight, it needs to concentrate its power in its wings, which contains much Spiritual Energy. Over time, these sickles absorbed the Locust King's Spiritual Energy and have become Inferior Quality!"
"Inferior Quality!" Lingfeng shuddered all over, suddenly feeling his blood boil. After so many years in the Cultivation Realm, he had developed a deep understanding of weapon classifications here.
Weapons are divided into Common Items, Exceptional Items, Celestial Weapons, and Divine Artifacts. Aside from Common Items, the rest are further divided into upper, middle, and lower grades.
Common Items are ordinary weapons like the Bagua Sword. Exceptional Items are treasures crafted by spirits. Treasures made by monsters under a hundred years of cultivation are classified as Inferior Quality; those between five hundred to one hundred years are Medium Quality; and those over five hundred years are Supreme Quality. Celestial Weapons are crafted by immortals and their grade depends on the elixirs and materials used. Generally speaking, the rarer and more precious the metal used in crafting a weapon is, the better quality it will have. For example, Xuanchan Silk is unique to the Xuanxian Maiden Palace; it grows only one meter long over a thousand years. The crafted Xuan Rope is flexible and incredibly light but lacks killing power; only the Xuanxian Maiden uses it and is recognized as a top-tier Celestial Weapon.
The divine artifacts are transcendent beyond the first three types of weapons, existing almost in a legendary form. The so-called divine artifacts are the weapons used by the Ancient Deity. The high-grade divine artifacts include the Opening Axe, Linglong Tower, and Supplement Stone. The medium-grade divine artifacts include the Sunshot Bow, Chasing Sun Boots, and Cosmic Bag. The low-grade divine artifacts include the Phoenix Lute, Sealing, Machine Mirror, and Finger Sword.
Of course, these Magical items can only be seen in books as part of legends; whether they truly exist remains unknown. It is said that the Opening Axe was lost in the mortal realm, and for many years, cultivators have traveled through the three realms in search of this Opening Axe, yet no one has ever heard of its whereabouts.
Legends are ultimately just legends; Lingfeng has never taken them to heart. However, Lingfeng once thought that if he could obtain an Inferior Quality artifact, he would be content. The bronze ancient sword belonging to Azure Vine is a Medium Quality weapon, which was left to him by his master. Master Qing's weapon was one used by his master back in the day, named Xiaoshan, which is a Supreme Quality weapon.
At this moment, Lingfeng was overjoyed to learn that the two Sickles they had inadvertently obtained were actually Inferior Quality. It is worth noting that the weapon of the Five Peaks Sect Leader is merely Inferior Quality.
Lingfeng picked up one of the Sickles and fiddled with it for a while, swinging it a few times but found it not very useful. These two Sickles originally grew on the Locust King; they lacked handles and only had blades, making them impractical. Lingfeng couldn't help but feel anxious and said, "If I use these two Sickles like this, I’ll probably be cut down before I can even lift them."
Qingting laughed heartily and said, "No rush, no rush. These two Sickles still contain the demonic aura of the Locust King; if not refined properly, they might harm their owner. If you trust me, I can help you refine them to suit your needs."
Lingfeng nodded repeatedly; within the entire Demon Suppression Mountain, only the sect leader likely had enough elixirs for this purpose. Adding a few other materials might allow these two Sickles to be refined into a Medium Quality weapon.
Thus, it was settled that refining a weapon would take at least forty-nine days, so Lingfeng had no choice but to wait patiently.
That night, Lingfeng flipped through his Cultivation Notes; however, he had already practiced most of what was written within them and found little meaning in reviewing them now. Yet Azure Vine and the sect leader did not seem inclined to provide him with any other secret manuals. Currently practicing various spells felt tedious and yielded little effect.
"Right," Lingfeng recalled Lame Old Man Li's secret chamber. It contained countless manuals that might interest him. With that thought in mind, Lingfeng jumped out of bed and stealthily made his way to the academy under the moonlight.
Since Lame Li left, there had been no students here. The entire academy was desolate and filled with dead leaves. In the darkness, it resembled a long-abandoned dilapidated house—eerie and terrifying.
Although Lingfeng had achieved much, he still felt a tremor in his heart as it raced uncontrollably.
After a few jumps, Lingfeng leaped into the courtyard, the dry leaves crunching underfoot. Although there was no one to supervise here, Lingfeng still felt a subconscious sense of vigilance.
Entering the classroom, it was dark inside. Lingfeng took out a Spirit Talisman and recited an incantation. A flash of spiritual light appeared, and a faint glow emerged from the Spirit Talisman. Although the illumination was limited, it was enough to see the path.
Relying on memories from a month ago, Lingfeng approached the bookshelf. The iron Red-Crowned Crane stood there, covered in dust, its expression unchanged.
Imitating Lame Li, Lingfeng twisted the head of the Red-Crowned Crane to one side. With a familiar creaking sound, the bookshelf split open in the middle, revealing a ladder inside.
Below, Night Pearls illuminated the space; the Spirit Talisman was no longer of much use. Lingfeng put away the Spirit Talisman and closed the secret door before descending the ladder.
Though he had only been here once, Lingfeng had already memorized the layout and effortlessly entered the secret chamber.
The secret chamber remained unchanged; weapons and various books were placed as they were, seemingly untouched by anyone.
"Could it be that he has already learned all these secret techniques?" Lingfeng wondered as he approached the bookshelf, carefully moving his feet and examining the labels on the shelves.
The first shelf was labeled "Martial Arts," filled entirely with various martial arts manuals. Lame Li had roamed the world and collected many rare texts. Although the martial arts manuals were disorganized, they were arranged from top to bottom according to their difficulty level.
Lingfeng took out a manual from the top row and casually glanced through it. He discovered that it contained a technique he had previously learned, classified as low-level martial arts, so he returned it to its place. Then, he took out the last manual from the bottom row, which happened to be the most difficult one among these martial arts texts.
Compared to other manuals, this one was particularly eye-catching. It was not shaped like a traditional book—rectangular or square—but rather in the shape of a hand. The manual was entirely golden, and each page was incredibly soft; although made of paper, it felt as smooth as high-quality silk.
"Falling Leaf Technique?" Lingfeng softly read the words on the cover and looked below. "Upper part? Could this manual also have a middle part and lower part?" Lingfeng felt puzzled; although he had not been in the Cultivation Realm for long, he knew that martial arts manuals were typically singular without divisions. However, this Falling Leaf Technique surprisingly had upper and lower parts, which was indeed strange.
Just as Lingfeng was puzzled, a white piece of paper gently floated down from the Falling Leaf Technique.
Lingfeng took a step back and bent down to pick up the paper, which turned out to be a letter from Lame Li. Lingfeng was taken aback; did he already know that he would come here?
Without further thought, Lingfeng quickly began to read the letter.
As he read, Lingfeng was utterly astonished. Lame Li not only knew that Lingfeng would come here but also anticipated that Lingfeng would look through the Falling Leaf Technique, which is why he placed the letter within this manual. Regarding the Falling Leaf Technique, Lame Li did not provide any introduction but merely informed Lingfeng that this book was a treasure of the martial world and the supreme art. If one could successfully cultivate the Falling Leaf Technique, breaking through to the next stage of Fusion would not be an issue.
"But if there is an upper part, why is there no lower or middle part?" Lingfeng wondered as he checked the bookshelf again. However, whether it was the martial arts bookshelf or the cultivation bookshelf, there were no books related to the Falling Leaf Technique. Lingfeng couldn't help but feel confused; since Lame Li knew he would return, why didn't he leave the entire Falling Leaf Technique for him? Or perhaps he hadn't obtained all of it himself.
Vaguely, Lingfeng heard a few roosters crowing; he knew dawn was approaching.
Just as he was about to leave, Lingfeng realized he should also take a book related to cultivation. He casually picked one from the first row of the cultivation bookshelf.
After exiting the secret room, Lingfeng tucked both manuals into his loose Robe to avoid drawing attention. Azure Vine was practicing martial arts outside and seemed somewhat surprised to see Lingfeng return so early. Looking inside, he said, "The sun must be rising in the west today; I didn't expect you to get up so early and even go exercise!"
Lingfeng chuckled lightly, thinking to himself that he hadn't slept all night. Out loud, he replied, "Of course! I can't afford to slack off now; if I get defeated by Man Pillar later, I’d be embarrassed for you!"
Azure Vine laughed heartily and said, "I have no face left anyway; there's nothing more to lose. I'm just worried you'll embarrass the Demon Suppression Sect!"
